For anyone who hasn’t seen the car fire video or don’t know what he’s talking about: A girl had her car catch on fire and she had a Stanley cup in it. The cup took damage, but the fact that it still had ice in the cup was what made it so popular. Stanley did a great job at taking that video and buying her a new car. So it’s more than just a cup. It’s fairly skillful marketing for a cup that can retain its temp well enough to keep ice from melting while it sits in a car fire.

Nah water bottle fads are wild like it started with Nalgenes because it was trendy to be “adventurey and outdoorsy” and then people were like “oh I want my water bottle not to be warm after 10 seconds” and then switched to Hydroflasks as the status symbol. Then people were like “I love my 40oz water bottle but it doesn’t fit in a cup holder” which is where stanleys took over as the new status symbol. My prediction, people are going to be over the weightiness of Stanley’s and the extra complications of cleaning then and the next fad by this summer or next will be slimmer 21oz water bottles
