Hi guys! In today's video I am sharing with you my thoughts on some products I've noticed that have been on the best sellers list for years and I just don't understand why!! I also give you some products that I think deserve to take their place! Thanks for watching babes!

People buy it because they loved these products for years and they are faithful to them. It's hard to find a product that works for you, and when you finally do, it's easier to repurchase them, than to look for something new. Makeup enthusiastics are always looking for new stuff, new formulas, new packages, but regular people might rather put their effort somewhere else.

Another reason might be marketing investment. Fenty invests more in marketing than nudestix, and kylie appeals to a larger public than her competitors. It's not necessarily about product quality.

Sadly, it's hard to experience and enjoy all the amazing product's on the market when you don't have an actual shade in those products. I don't and have never had a correct shade in any Guerlain product or Charlotte Tilbury product and that's why Fenty, and Mac are staples for me . 😭 It's really sad that inclusivity is still a problem but it is and when you find a brand that caters to you too in every single product they release, Honey I ride that wave 😂😂

I wore that dang fenty foundation throughout high school and freshman year of college bc I thought the shade matched me perfectly and I had oily/ acne prone skin... well my mother waited until last summer when I switched foundations to tell me I looked orange and textured! The ultimate betrayal from my own mother!!😂 ps I would marry tarte shape tape but I think the price is inflated. I love the little bloopers at the end💜💜

I find the Naked Wild West to be way better quality than the previous Naked palettes! But I totally agree that NABLA deserves way more hype!

Fenty is on the best sellers list because they try to cater to everyone. I haven’t tryed the foundations, but I know how hard it is for a person of colour to find a foundation, and from what I remember they got quite good undertones to choose from. TF and Guelain are not known for their inclusivity.... Great video 💕

The pigments are formulated in a way that one shade works for 4-5 skin shades. I've tawny in tom ford. It works for my mom nc35, me nc40 and my cousin nc42. Coz it has that warmth which looks stunning on all three of us. Provided highlight and contour changes the whole foundation look. Ultimately the base looks perfect.

I agree. I am very hard to match. I’ve always had to color correct foundation before Fenty. Almost No one makes a neutral olive for a medium-tan tone. Tons of people make warm yellow olive or cool toned olive which either makes me look jaundiced and in active organ failure or gray and dead like a zombie. I rarely wear foundation but The neutral olive is my go to when. I do. It actually matches without having to fool around with green and blue mixing pigments!!

@@themango9644 but lets be honest, ok people may wanna try it because is Rihanna but who gonna repurchase over and over again a trash product (that is not cheap) just because is Rihanna?? This foundation is like bestseller since 2017! We're in 2021! I don't get why someone with dry skin (like morgan) consider a product that was design for oily and combo skin a bad product(fenty and charlotte are matte foundation, aka not dry skin friendly) I wish more people would get that just because it didn't worked for you it doesn't mean is a bad product and those who buy it are blind or idiots or dummies or whatever. There are people that also hate what you love or work for you. And finally social media is a very small part of the comunity, just because certain influencers don't like something it doesn't mean regular people wont purchase and repurchase if they like: nobody talk about bare mineral but sells just fine at sephora, most influencers didn't like the fenty matte foundation but is the sephora best seller; they all loved the fenty hydrating foundation and the rare beauty one, and these don't sell that much(compared with estee and fenty matte); everyone on ig and yt love milk cleanser and moisturiser but sells bad at sephora, most of the skinfluencers dragged fenty skin(and I thought Nobody would buy it, because of the fragrance ), but I read a lot of positive coments on ig from people who actually been using for months, and they are selling good at sephora for months now! Again, who gonna buy burning or irritating skincare and use it and repurchase it over and over just because is Rihanna??? Just because it didn't work for me it doesn't mean it wont work for someone else!

As a “ mature” woman your skin changes. Stuff that looked/ worked in your 20’s can often look atrocious decades later. On the flip side, some things are classics for a reason.

That proves that makeup is something extremelly personal. My opinion on the concealers you mentioned in the beggining of your list are the exact opposite. Shape Tape is not drying on me at all, and is one of the few concealers that do not crease or get de into my fine lines, and on top of all that, it has the exact coverage that I need for my extreme dark under eye circles. I don't even have to set it. And I have really dry under eyes. The too faced one on me was the extreme opposite. Made me look old and did not cover anything at all. I tried setting it with my Charlotte Tilbury powder, with my Pat McGrath powder, using all types of different tools and nothing worked at all. Go figure...

I feel the same. Also the too faced shade range doesn’t match me at all. I look like a clown unless I cover it with a color corrector and then it starts to crack and smear and get super patchy. I don’t have that problem with the shape tape. If I am applying it under my eyes I just add a drop of moisturizing eye serum. Plus it’s the only thing that covers the horrible breakouts I’m getting from spending 12 hours a day in a mask. The stuff just works does what it’s supposed to and lasts all day without budging. Dont even need to set it. Powder is not your friend with a dry under eye.

Agreed! Also Shape Tape's shade range is sooooo much better than TF! I found all of their concealers too yellow based and the rest were just too white, no proper neutral shades imo. I can definitely see why ST it is still a #1 choice and a cult favourite.

I just put Tarte Shape Tape under one eye and Huda Beauty The Overachiever under the other eye to compare last week. The Huda Overachiever looked better at the end of the day. I have extremely dark circles and have tried EVERYTHING....nothing really works to cover them, even RMS and Becca correctors that people swear by. I keep trying though!

@@PeriWinkle33957 good to know! I haven't tried the Huda one yet. To this day the only products that work for me are Shape Tape or the combo Boing cakeless concealer + Becca corrector underneath it. But I still prefer the Shape Tape. Thanks for the tip!

My skin is dry and dehydrated, and there is no fondation on the market that looks better on me than Nars Natural Longwear 🥰 it is super bluring, does not emphasize any dry patches and lasts alllll day even with a mask. It's so funny how much the experience with products is different from one person to another! Great video, thanks for your recommendation ♥️ love from France 🇨🇵

I love the Nars foundation too. I think it’s a beautiful foundation. It’s all how you prep your skin prior.

Both Fenty and the NARS are so good and I have dry skin. Especially the NARS, I bought for the first time two months ago and it’s gives me the most beautiful finish ever. I also love the Fenty powder in Lavender, which I bought three months ago. I have tried about a dozen foundations in my life (36 years old) and so far the NARS is my best and the Fenty is awesome for the summer.

Nars used to be my favorite brand until they decided to not be cruelty free anymore. I purchased the Natural Longwear foundation when it came out with the money I got for my birthday. I wanted it to be the foundation I would wear for prom. Sheer Glow was my favorite foundation and Stromboli was my exact skin tone . I was really excited and I wanted to love Natural Longwear. I was so disappointed. I have combination skin and it emphasized all of my dry patches and texture I didn’t even know I had. That never happened with Sheer Glow for me. It’s Stromboli shade was really pink on me. It’s very difficult to find an olive shade foundation and Nars already had my perfect match. I don’t know why they would change their colors and use the same name. I wish I returned it. I didn’t know you can return products because that’s not a thing where I’m from. I still got a happy ending for prom. Sheer Glow looked perfect and airbrushed in my pictures 😊

Dear Morgan, Sephora is a business with investors behind every brand. Im no expert, but I’ve come to the conclusion that the store pushes some brands more than others. That’s wat I never pay much attention to that section of “best sellers” anymore. Lol

I love the Fenty foundation, haven’t bothered to try any new foundation ever since I found it. It matches my skin tone perfectly, has just the right amount of coverage and super lightweight. I used to hate wearing foundation, for me foundation is not something I tend to try a lot for fun, so if it ain’t broken I’m not gonna try to fix it 🤷‍♀️

I get that not everything is for everyone, but... I love Tarte Shape Tape, and I also love the Too Faced concealer!!! Also, the Nars Radiant Longwear Foundation is my holy grail foundation!!!

I get why Urban Decay is a best seller and Nabla doesn’t even make the list. Urban Decay is sold in store at my Ulta (and quite a few other stores) but I couldn’t find any Nabla products whatsoever In store at my Ulta or any in a 50 mile radius. Everyone knows someone who owns an Urban Decay palette and they can walk into a variety of stores and walk out with one. The average consumer (at least everyone I know) buys most if not ALL of their makeup from an actual brick and mortar store.

As I understand it the brands have to pay A LOT of $$$ to the store for the shelf space. I have heard they ask for money up front like a rental fee plus a percentage of the profit which can be up to 50%. I have personally not been in a brick and mortar store for several years. I’m don’t want to have to sit in the traffic and fight for parking etc... it’s just a hassle not fun. That goes for grocery shopping too. Most of the people I hang out with are the same. We buy almost everything online and very rarely go to stores. I think it depends on where you live and how crowded things are and how bad the traffic is and how expensive the parking is.

I like buying online, but it will never be a substitute for real life shopping experience. Also companies keep changing the product lines all the time, and I cannot just blind buy everything lol P.S. I think that the quality of UD is different, as I have never heard that a UD palette dried out. Some of Huda, ABH (and I suspect =, Nabla) formulas dry out before you finish a refill. No bueno :) :) :)

I hated shape tape for a long time but now I love it. I use Becca under eye corrector then shape tape, both in very small amounts.

I have Pat McGrath's concealer, Dior, CT, BTW etc...Tarte ST is still my #1. I'm 41 and have serious dark circles and ST gets it done with less product than those others. I love setting it with the Pat under eye powder.

I’m 56 with severe dark circles since the age of 13. I like Huda Beauty The Overachiever concealer better than Tarte Shape Tape. I’ve tried everything and NOTHING covers, but the Huda wears better for me than Tarte ST. If ever you get the chance to try it you might like it too!☺️

I think a lot of the OG best seller products (like Laura Mercier's powder) remain that way because people hear about how good they are and keep buying them. But those same people don't regularly follow beauty gurus, or keep up with the latest and greatest. A lot of them probably tell their friends what they use, and then they get repurchased over and over. A lot of people who aren't makeup enthusiasts like beauty guru subscribers, know what they like and stick with it.

Shape Tape lliterally makes my undereyes look smooth and flawless... and i have dry skin. I always use a good smoothing setting powder too

My mom loves the Lancome make up remover because its the only one that doesn't irritate her eyes 🤣 so the oposit from you. And the oil residue wouldnt be a problem if you did double cleansing 😉 would help with skin issues and acne too. These products are here to remove make up not really cleanse your skin ❤️

Double cleansing is such a game changer. Using an oil to dissolve makeup and then emulsifying it with a gel cleanser is my go-to method now. I sometimes follow those 2 with a gentle salicylic acid cleanser omitting the eye area.

Exactly ❤️ double cleansing really is a game changer. Also a good thing is to have a different towel just for your face. Looove salicilic acid cleanser, allways have one in the shower and one on the sink.

@@alentarabcakova3000 True, having a separate towel is definetely a great idea. To be honest I don't like micellar waters as I don't like having to use cotton pads. That's not eco-friendly and it can irritate the skin. I've been using a micellar gel for years but adding oil as a first step made a huge difference for how easy it is to take the make up off. I am surprised soo many people still use micellar water my mom and sister included lmao.

@@justynawisniewska1213 i do have one also 😅 but just because the one from bioderma is the only one that doesn't irritate my eyes. But i have an korean oil cleanser on the way so i hope it will be good for my eyes too. Since i started to use mostly korean scincare my skin looks so much better 🙏 but still love my CeraVe cleansers and also some of the inkey list products.

I personally don’t love shape tape anymore but what I hear from oily skinned people is that it’s unmatched in coverage and wear time! That’s probably why it’s still so loved because lighter coverage hydrating concealers are definitely more popular now, which is not ideal for oily skin. Just my guess haha. I’ve also had oily friends tell me the too faced is too oily on them!

I like Fenty but I LOVE Nudestix!! I have all the colours in the dewy blush, matte blush, bronzer and highlighter which is definitely ridiculous but so worth it 😍

Yes, I’m on of the ones that continues to repurchase that tarte concealer and I don’t think I plan on stopping anytime soon. I do have other concealers that I’ve also used up that I do enjoy but it just isn’t as good as the tarte. And again all personal opinions but I personally think that the too faced concealer is one of the worst concealers I’ve ever used, coverage was mediocre and it broke me out which has never happened with a concealer. I love the Lancôme foundation but I can’t justify buying it for every day use, I typically just concealer or tinted moisturizer. I saw someone mentioned that it’s because of comfort and I do agree, but I also don’t see the point of changing basics, I prefer to play with palettes and face powders (like blushes and highlighters), then be trying different basic stuff like setting powder or mascaras.

Enjoyed your mini-rant, and ur mentioning.the alternatives u liked and why. A couple of reasons may be that buyers look at best-sellers for guidance; and for the past couple of years the world has been SO much more overwhelmed than previously that it's less complicated for ppl to continue with a product they discovered yrs ago and know they are happy with it. And Habit can be comforting. An one must be pretty interested in the cosmetics industry to appreciate how quickly the technology has changed in past 5-7 yrs. Also, some people are just thrilled that their old product is still available!!

I totally agree with you about the ABH brow pencil. I have used the elf and Maybelline pencils for a year now and they work great if not better than high end. Great video.

Very appreciates that you mentioned Garner Micellar Cleaning Water over Lancome makeup remover. Went to buy it and found out that it works like Lancome product without oil residue and a lot cheaper.

I enjoy these sort of video's, I like hearing about various breakdowns. I don't mind the fenty foundation, but it breaks down on my nose, which annoys me, but never seemed to dry me out too much, even though I have dry skin. The match stix actually worked well for me, I used to take them on vacation. Some of the other products I haven't tired, like shape tape. My under eyes are really dry. Just doesn't seem like a good idea!

Got the bh naughty palette on your recommendation, and for $11 was totally worth it. Agreed with so many of your opinions, especially about Fenty and Lancome products.

Replenishment is such a powerful thing. Most makeup buyers don’t really know anything about new releases or slightly less prominent brands like Nudestix. They buy the same exact concealer and mascara every time they run out and only hear about new things from their best friend or a Sephora employee if they decide to ask for a rec.

I bought shape tape years ago when I was in the states, and i absolutely loved it, and when i ran out i got the born this way concealer because people said it was better and i was so dissapointed... I love shape tape so much more, but i usually mix it it with the anti-age from maybellin. Its the perfect duo for me.

I agree that the nars radiant foundation is drying and super matte... it has stayed in my favorites because it is a beautiful foundation to mix with luminizer fluids like iconic london drops or the chanel healthy glow highlighting fluid! It gets transformed and retains coverage/lasting power.

Great point about the ABH brow wiz! I actually just picked up the elf brow pencil for two dollars and it’s really just as good. I’m thinking about picking up the Nabla side by side palette. Nabla is also vegan. 💚

I bought the bh Naughty palette last month off their website for $11.60! And it’s phenomenal 😍 Those palettes def should be #1 at Ulta! Candied Fruit is my favorite shade! 😊❤️💄

You disagree on the powder because you like it and that's probably why your one of those who ......still buying??? So maybe.....the others are still buying because they love it and "its so good" for them...to. I don't like that clinique bestseller moisturizer that most people claim is amazing, but I don't think is a bad or hyped product it just wasn't compatible with my skin and I don't need to wonder why is this a bestseller! It is because the majority didn't get irritation and breakouts! Simple as it. There's no way this would sell that good if everybody would get the same reaction that I got. Just because something didn't work for you it doesn't mean is bad, is just not for you...there's not need to question other people taste.

Love the naked palettes...new to the game with them. I also like all the indie makeup as well, it’s all about my mood! Ofra lipsticks dry out my lips like the Sahara desert! I love anything full full coverage.

I feel like the BH palettes, the eye shadow colors either look muddy and all the same or when you apply the color it doesn't look the same as it does in the pan. Also, I have only used the Bobbi Brown stick foundation, which I liked, but I used it up in like three weeks. Now I go for a more natural glow and use the L'oreal Glotion and I love the look, but it helps that i use self tanner on my face every day. Love this video and your makeup today is gorgeous!!

I use the Becca under eye anti fatigue then shape tape and together it works for me. The Lancôme eye makeup remover is awesome 👏

I completely agree with everything you said! Tarte shape tape never worked for me. Those two foundations didn't either. I agree about the charlotte. I'll have to try the guerlain. CVS makeup remover is incredible. So is the ordinary squalane. Completely agree with everything!

Love the whole concept of the video, Morgan! Although, a lot of makeup preferences are subjective imo. The Fenty matchstix I agree are quite dry in texture, but personally they blend out well on my combination-oily skin; whereas nudestix makes me way wayyy too oily and don't stay on my skin too long, and the nudestix foundation sticks broke me out in a myriad of CC.

You are cracking me up! You can make this a series. 😄 I don’t have the answer because i only have the NARS Natural Radiance and it’s one of my favorite foundations. It just looks good on my skin for some reason. As for the other products I’ve never tried any of them. I was into Bare Minerals during the height of the Naked Palettes. Now the influencers I follow are not into UD shadow wise. That’s sad because we’re losing Becca, who’s next? 💚

funny thing, tarte only came to my country's sephora late in 2020. so many people asked for it on instagram, raved about the shape tape... and now that sephora sells it, most reviews are negative lmao

Same, it came late to my country's Sephora, and I bought 2 shades at one go blindly because of the earlier rave reviews. Tried it and it was sooo dry and cakey. Definitely not for mature or dry skin.

to be fair- it is advertised for normal-oily skin (my skin type is normal most days but can lean dry in the winter) and up until they released the more dewy version, they advertised it for all skin types! Its just more drying which is why oily skin loves it more but it is not necessarily made for oily skin only!

I used to hate the hourglass foundation until I spread it with my fingers instead of brush or sponge. I have combination skin. It used to be cakey and break up around my smile lines. But for some reason, now it stays in place all day and it is has a beautiful satin finish (medium coverage)and it is very skin like. I’m glad I gave it another try!

I still prefer the shape tape over the too faced one. But I also use the Becca undereye primer underneath, which gives a little bit of moisture.

I love Tarte Shape Tape, it works better for me than anything else. The Pat McGrath concealer everyone loves creasing on me every time, but Shape Tape doesn’t.

I had the opposite problem with Fenty foundation -- just didn't stay put on my combo skin! But I love the brand overall, I don't think it's overrated personally. The matte sticks blend beautifully for me! Opposite experience.

I agree on so many of these thoughts. I despise the Naked palettes...EXCEPT Honey. That stands up to my ND Gold palette. They did amazing on that palette.

My one Kylie liquid lipstick is my favorite liquid lipstick. It is bright red and stays all day without my needing to reapply. I have oily skin so I don’t find it particularly drying. I just don’t normally wear liquid lipstick so I haven’t bothered to get more colors.

I agree with you 100% about urban decay eyeshadows and the naked eyeshadow campaign. I absolutely love Natasha Denona’s color stories as well as the formula is excellent. For a drug store eyeshadow palette FLOWER the formula for their eyeshadow is phenomenal
