Dude, I went to see my ex a year after I broke up with him. The year before he took me on a trip to Mexico and acted a complete fool, told me to my face he wanted to have sex with my close friend. I broke up with him once we got back to the States. When we talked a year later he tried to minimize his wrongdoing and totally tried to invalidate my feelings. That man is nearly 50 years old now. It breaks my heart to know that I’m the reason my “one that got away” got away. I pushed her away to keep her safe, but ended up hurting her anyway. I didn’t want to expose her to my world even though I wanted her in it. I always ask, would you let someone you care about walk down a path KNOWING there are snakes everywhere?, or would you do everything you could to make sure they didn’t go down that path. What I didn’t realize is that she knew about the “snakes” and was willing to walk with me to help look out for them. We as men forget sometimes that we don’t always need to protect woman. If they want to walk through fire just because you are or because you’re on the other side then let her do it and then when she gets across never make her do it again. I wanted to keep her safe and she just wanted to be with me.

I’m going through a break up right now, and it’s really been toxic, he accused me of cheating heaps then when he went away for a month we said we’d be on a break I slept with right toward the end of the month and then told him, I have only now just found out, 2 months after his been back and 2 months of him calling me a cheater and everything I’ve found out he slept with someone on his trip now we’ve broken up and I got with someone straight away. Why do I still feel like I’m the bad person? Am I? I don’t think I’ll ever get proper closure with him and I’ll have to live with that
