an extraction shooter is a tarkov like

"extraction shooter" isn't descriptive or clear, though, whereas "tarkov-like" communicates a large set of attributes concisely: round-based open-world free-for-all combat where you have some persistent gear/wealth at stake, plus other risk/reward systems (like PvE hostiles) that make players constantly call, bet, or raise an ever-changing gamble with partial information of the system. Tarkov invented the genre so you'll have to reference Tarkov anyway "roguelike", "dotalike", "battle royale" etc were all similarly useful terms that just referenced the genre pioneer. in contrast, the name "multiplayer online battle arena" means absolutely nothing at face value and never caught on. you generally can't name game genres semantically, so you may as well name them symbolically. experienced game-players know what a "shoot-em-up"/"shmup" is despite very different genres involving "shooting"; they know that a "beat 'em up" is distinct from a "fighting game", but they're much more recognisable to less-acquainted people as "Raiden -like", "Streets of Rage -like", or "Tekken -like" games

sometimes you luck out and someone finds a good name that sticks for an emerging popular genre, like "social deduction" or "secret traitor" for Trouble in Terrorist Town / Among Us. "extraction shooter" isn't horrible but it doesn't capture the ratty greedy gambling that powers the core of Tarkov's appeal

i don't mind the idea of knockoff Rusts but SCUM's latest misogynistic-as-fuck update makes me think the devs are both morons and pieces of shit

@@lachlanc7092 can't really compare scum to dayz more than both are survival, other than that both have different aspects of things. Scum is otherwise very good and the devs are super active updating the game all the time

also maybe smoothing out the gunplay. It looks a bit clunky, but credit where credit is due

a couple games have tried that but I can't remember their names. it's still a rich vein to mine, and i'll bet someone strikes gold with it at some point. there's so many interesting things you can do with zero-gravity and newton's 1st

seems every new game comes out and gets yeeted from the masses because it looks like this in beta..... which is silly to think of as a person who has to sit here in this day and age playing *(betas) looking for a fun fucking game
