@VSValeant 5 жыл бұрын
American English is easier to pronounce. It takes a bit more effort to do the UK accent. For example, think of the word water. In US it's w-ah-ter, you slightly open your mouth to say it. In UK, it's w-oh-ter. You use more muscles in your face to say the words. American English is a simplified form of UK English.

While it is true that there are many, many, MANY different ways Judaism is practiced, I cannot imagine anyone ever choosing to forgo something lifesaving for ritual significance in a situation like this. We have something called "pikuach nefesh" which basically means that saving a life/ staying healthy is the holiest, most important thing, which House mentions. Takes precedence over all others. So for example, fasting on Yom Kippur, the holiest day, is an obligation. However, not eating for a full day has a serious impact on my health, and so not only am I supposed to eat, I am basically prohibited from fasting if it would damage my health.

One, she doesn't have a lifetime of obeying the rules drilled into her to the point she wouldn't even think about questioning or bucking them. (Although admittedly "born agains" do tend to be more strictly devout than lifers.) And two, it wasn't a life _saving_ procedure, only a _possibly_ life extending one. She thought the chances were good that she was going to die anyways, without being able to have her "wedding night" ritual.

something i love is that this show shows procedure relatively well even with the obviously exaggerated characters. like, you’re never supposed to guarantee that the patient will be alright because that’s a lie, so assuring them in other ways and explaining how what you’re doing should help is the recommended form of comforting them. and this show is the only medical show i have seen where they follow that.

@@weavercs4014 To claim all monotheists believe in a "magic man in the sky" is reductive, as if monotheism somehow equals anthropomorphism. That is not a belief in God, but human-worship. In any case: When the all-powerful entity created the universe, it did not come from nothing - the entity _is_ a continually-existing something which caused the universe. This cause of the universe - said entity - cannot itself be caused, since that notion would mean something caused that cause, something caused _that_ cause, etc. - and for an endless chain of caused things to result in the universe is impossible. Impossible, because to claim that infinity - the chain of causes and caused things that goes back forever - can come to an end is absurd. So the entity must be eternal - always existing, never caused, but being the Original Cause of the existence we are in. This belief is coherent and logical, unlike the belief that the universe was not prompted by anything or preceded by anything yet still popped into existence.

Mi5 WOW kid you just got r/WOOOOOOSHED!!!! 😂😂👀 “Wooosh” means you didn’t get the joke, as in the sound made when the joke “woooshes” over your head. I bet you’re too stupid to get it, IDIOT!! 😤😤😂 My joke was so thoughtfully crafted and took me a total of 3 minutes, you SHOULD be laughing. 🤬 What’s that? My joke is bad? I think that’s just because you failed. I outsmarted you, nitwit.🤭 In conclusion, I am posting this to the community known as “r/Wooooosh” to claim my internet points in your embarrassment 😏. Imbecile. The Germans refer to this action as “Schadenfreude,” which means “harm-joy” 😬😲. WOW! 🤪 Another reference I had to explain to you. 🤦‍♂️🤭 I am going to cease this conversation for I do not converse with simple minded persons.😏😂

Exactly. It's like the writers of the episode did literally no research for it at all... Talk to ONE rabbi, and they'll tell you that pikuach nefesh invalidates the entire premise of the episode!

Jonah Safern Her husband did tell her that the Torah wants for us to preserve life. SHE didn’t want the surgery. Ultimately, if she don’t want the surgery even after her husband begged her to remember about life preservation, I doubt she would listen to a rabbi. Of course, this is a medical drama sometimes the way the story plays out medically isn’t necessarily how it would go down for real. It’s dramatic fiction.

Yep! Any rule in Judaism can be broken to save someone's life (the religious ones, not really the don't murder ones, but even those to a lesser extent). I don't fast for Yom Kippur because my meds require food. Designated drivers don't have to get super drunk on Purim. If you're starving to death, you can break Kosher. The Talmud specifically references breaking the "don't work on Shabbat" rule to pull someone out from under a cart.
