I love how the character is kinda like a shape shifting monster and you can see patterns in every monster to resemble the feline clown thing.

It's hard to express how much this speaks to me, as a survivor of abuse. The lines "why do you still believe in me" and "you're completely free" coming after "You're not released I'd like seconds please" is so reminiscent of the duplicity/guilt tripping. The figure in this piece goes through so many transformations, some on beat and topical but others harsh and out of the blue. Framing it as a combat also mirrors the self-victimizing of my and many abusers. I don't know that this is what this piece is about, but it's amazing to see these themes represented so well.

The people who hate on Sodikken because of this song are silly. I'm not saying that because I'm a Sodikken fan, I'm saying it from an objective perspective. Just don't listen to this song if you don't like it. 💀 And hating a person just because of one song that they made is crazy. Also, There is obviously a story being told. The song is *supposed* to sound like this. And honestly, the song doesn't even sound that bad. ¯\_🫤_/¯ If the haters would just take time to listen to both Misery Meat and People Eater, and analyze the lyrics, sound of the song, and visuals then they would realize that these songs tell a tale of abuse. People Eater is from the perspective of the abuser, and Misery Meat is from the perspective of the victim. It's art. It's absolutely genius. and I don't get how so many people don't understand that. So many people are just overlooking the pure creativity and details that Sodikken puts into their work.

I really love the ways Soddiken uses a rising meter to unnaturally stress words. Beyond it adding to the uncannily joyful tone of the morbid lyrics by making the protagonist sound insane, it's also just so damn charming. What a fun, horrible, erratic song.

fact: this is not your first time watching this

damn i just found this recently to find out that people were hating on it, its a shame since i quite like sodikken and their style. the main argument against it is that the singing "sounds forced", which i dont really agree with. im not a professional by any means but i have taken choir for a few years and my teacher has taught me quite a lot about music and singing, one of those being that different methods of projecting your voice can produce different affects and can be used well in different situations. to me this song sounds less "forced" and more like sodikken is consistently changing where in their throat they're singing, which works really well for the stories and characters, especially in this song, which to me looks like some sort of shape shifter, so changing voice would make sense. most people sing in a nice in-between of nasal and throat so most people are used to that kind of singing, but artists like sodikken (and a lot of musical theater) take advantage of more range in their voice depending on what they're trying to portray. more nasally or throaty can sound more "forced" to some people, but i think sodikken was more just using more range like i said. people can dislike this but i think the criticism of it isn't really warranted, based off what some people on tiktok called the vocals. im no expert but my choir teacher with a master's in music taught me a lot about this kind of stuff, and i believe her. anyways, time to listen to this song another hundred times again lmao

i've seen people mentioning how the only time there's proper lip syncing is during "why do you still believe in me," but does anyone else notice how the only non-pixelated things in this video are the eyes of the more honest creatures that show bouts of guilt, the clown hound and its melting and shadowed versions?

The song and characters is one thing, but I feel like an important component of the song is the setdressing. *This is a battle screen. That is an Enemy.* The viewer, the victim who has been carved apart, their bones discarded as unreplaceable parts of them held so dear are consumed, recognizes this abuser as an enemy. The entire time, this creature is recognized as a monster, a villain, and the UI recognizes it as such. Rather than health, there is blood, sweat, and tears. Tears being almost empty, blood quick to follow, and sweat at barely a quarter. The lightning bolts, what I assume to be Action Points, are at 8/32, patience is running thin. In their equipment, they have a sword, bow, and bomb. Typical weapons. But then they also have their own severed foot, a Bible, and bread. The viewer is Christian, is that why they've stuck it out this long? The options they have available to them are to Run, to use an Item, or to Attack. *Attack is selected.* No action is ever taken, no choice is made, but the phrase *"OH NO, A BATTLE!!"* lends to two possible readings. That this is something that happens often as major confrontations occur between the two, or that this entire relationship has been a battle. However, what should be recognized is that when the People Eater begins to speak in terms of self hatred and pity, the UI fades. Temporarily, but the cresture recognizes that there is a problem. It identifies that it is simply hurting the viewer, and a level of pity is placed on the creature. Yet, as it lays out the reasons why the viewer ought run, it suddenly turns. Switching out from its lucidity, it declares the viewers inaction as justification in-of itself. The second it does this the battle screen returns, not a fade in like it faded out, but a sudden snap. The viewer has been shaken out of their daze, they had thought, for a moment, like always, that the creature might just be a person like they are, trapped, scared, hurting, and lashing out. No. They understand what they are. A demon with urges, who recognizes the evil they do, but doesn't care enough to have the strength to stop their torture. Not apologetic, just weak, bent towards suffering. The monster, the enemy, speaks about the viewe's patience, declares that the viewers nonconsensual sacrifice has made them feel alive, and that it is thanks to the viewer that the demon has survived. It thanks the viewer, for dying to let it live. Yet, the screen remains. Attack selected, 8/32 AP remaining, out of tears. There remains yet hope that it's constant plea and song will not stay the viewers hand, and in turn a deathblow can be struck. The Monster is recognized as it is. The screen remains on terms of combat, with the effort placed nearing an end, and little patience remaining. "Run" sits as an option, everpresent. Yet, so too does feeding that foot to the monster. There is a chance.

i feel like this song could be about an abusive relationship, in which the narrator has manipulated their partner (who they're singing to) into becoming codependent to them. the cannibalism is a metaphor for draining the partner of their emotions, resources, etc., basically taking everything they have and hyperbolically eating away at them little by little. it seems like the partner knows they're being manipulated to an extent, but still believes that the narrator can change, or possibly has stockholm syndrome. i also think that the narrator is somewhat aware that what they're doing is wrong but doesn't realize why they do it (0:35), and can't bring themselves to stop because they've become addicted to "eating" people. thus, they see themselves as a monster which changes forms throughout the song. they've done this to multiple people, as they say at 0:30, "there, another one in the trash." there's more evidence to back up this theory such as at 1:10 when they say "i'm baffled why you choose to stay with me; you're completely free yet you refuse to leave."

Every time the characters are talking it’s just open close open close like a game, obviously, but then the way the “why do you still believe in me” is properly lip synced is such a good detail.

So I hear everyone talking about the symbolism in the song about abusive relationships, the parallels with Misery Meat, and how good this song is. I never hear anyone talk about how ‘Why do you still believe in me?’ at 0:55 is the only part of the song with actual lip sync. You’d think everyone would notice it and think ‘oh that must be important’ but I guess not.

The relationship between this song and misery meat is honestly so interesting to me, people eater is shown as the manipulative partner and misery meat is shown as the victim, its honestly so cool how they can make a story with just two songs

The character verse at 0:37 (I think there’s something wrong with me, why can’t I just live happily?” just scratched an itch in my brain. The vocals are so unique and despite what others have said I personally think the artist has insane amounts of talent both in the animation and the song.

I believe that this song may represent how someone may cant help but feel the need to use someone because of their family ignoring them. Like the part where it talks about taking care of each other needs and eating together as a family. But the person they're using still smiles at them and may still consider them a friend/sibling. Like the part where it says "why do you still believe in me?" Is their guilt. In the line: "Your completely free yet you refuse to leave" is like them having the will to live but at the end it says "Thank you for giving me your life" Like the person gave them the will to live after possibly dying. Or maybe its something similar or completely different. Sodikkens songs are full of wonderful, insane, interesting, art and their songs can be interpreted in different ways bt many different people who may have suffered by what pains they think Sodikken is represented in the video. In a way, i believe Sodikken represents different peoples pains and a lot of depressing subjects in a really fun but realistic way.

The song is a masterpiece now letting the lyrics aside. The vocal range and fast changeup gives the different characters a more fitting emotional palette some artists don't get quite right. I like the abstract concept of a shapeshifter shifting to the emotions it feels as well as the words it says just to make a point. As a fan of joel g content it got some "ena"-esque vibe to it. The abstract concept/s in all of the artists songs are just top notch and show just how much you can make from the most uselessness. The art is just so unique and animation as well but always somewhat fitting and just very expressive and makes the content more relatable and life-like. And the lyrics just fit into each other perfectly no matter if there is a red string/ theme itself or just song without context. It just weirdly fits together. And the melodicness just sticks with some, not the lyrics or the art is in focus but the feelings primarily associated with the vocals and seconded by the instrumentals. All in all a very special type of content in a very expressive manner is what makes it unique and thats just a great form of art

This can easily describe someone who had their life saved by someone, who is completely uninterested in them, but the one they saved became obsessive over the others life, because they truly believe they had none for themself. Very creepy but effective. I love it. Well done.

Legit sounds like a monster that's kept awake in sorrow by their need to consume the meat of sapient people, and in this particular circumstance, the person, a child even, was trying to help them when they've already eaten far too many. It even sounds like they tried to chase them away but they didn't listen and took their attempt to chase them away as a willingness to stop, before being eaten like the others. Well, completely, the song paints the image the child was already partially eaten, but then chose to stay for their, the monster's, sake. Honestly, pretty damn tragic of a creature, frankly if this were a full fledged story about a remorseful monster, whose targets for the most part were kind and tried to help them, I'd read it. Not sure what the rest of the world must be like for this creature, but it must be pretty damn horrible if you can choose to be eaten by a creature that speaks with them.

After listening on repeat and watching the animation over and over, I think the different enemies are aspects of the speaker. Not different personalities, but their different moods/sides + maybe some manipulation tactics? (I'm also assuming this is related to the previous video "I hope you're hungry") 1: The main mood, fierce, upbeat, and fairly transparent, (is wondering why the other person still believes in them, showing they know what's happening) but still not wanting to take any blame. 2: An extremely aggressive, angry, and potentially violent side, seems to blame the other person. ("How dare YOU deprive ME") 3: Making false promises. 4: Laughing at the fact the other person actually believed in those promises, almost making fun of them. 5: Giving out false generosity. 6: Acting like a gluttonous beast, always asking for seconds, or just more in general. 7: Looking down on others. (Since it's quite royal-looking, and perhaps even the "there, another one in the trash" line could be them looking down on someone) 8: An empathetic, or at least emotional side. (Talking about the other person, perhaps worrying about them, crying and clinging onto a stuffed animal) 9: A side very close to the first, (note the same pants and feet) distraught about their own state, since they know this isn't healthy, but doesn't know what to do about it. 10: Being honest and reflective, talking about things they usually keep deep down and refuse to acknowledge or talk about.

This is how I feel sometimes. I created a venting game where two or more players pick three songs relating to their life, their feelings on those parts, or just how they're feeling that day. The other player(s) has/have to interpret what each song means individually, and then the songs meanings in their situation is explained, and vice versa. Its an interesting way to get your feelings out, non competitively. I might use this song next time.

I feel like this song can be interpreted quite a few ways. I know misery meat implies that it’s an abusive relationship where the victim thinks they deserve/owe the abuser everything, but taking this song as a stand-alone my headcanon is that the relationship is genuinely happy and healthy, it’s just that one side’s insecurities make them feel like they’re burdening or even actively hurting their partner, while their partner realises what’s happening and stays supportive through their struggles.

My take on the story: All the characters are the same person, they represent deferent manipulation tactics the person (lets call them shape shifter/SS) uses : 1- represents acting dumb and them "not realizing" that they are causing harm to MC (main character) 2- represents the very overused tactic that is causing fear to the victom and also victom blaming (" how dare YOU deprive ME") 3- represents false promises and acting nice to gain the trust of the victim/MC 4- is the honest side of the shape shifter, they know that the "where we take care of each others needs" line is not true and is only said to manipulate MC 5- is making MC think that they take things for granted, 'at least we feed you' is a common thing abusive and manipulative people say to excuse that abuse they put you through 6- is the hangry and entitled side, they wont seconds even though MC (kind of) clearly can not give more 7- 's line isn't long enough to fully understand what they represent, in my opinion they represent the power dynamic between SS and MC, SS views themselves as a higher bing then MC so they don't feel bad for abusing them (this is a mindset a lot of abusers have) 8- Acts like they care about MC, to give them hope that there is a good side to SS, which there most probably isnt 9- while also being the same as the 1st one, they heavily guilt trip MC into feeling bad for them 10- quite similar to the 9th one, they are guilt tripping MC into staying in that abusive relationship, they "are" trying to change but cant , "its impossible". *they are hurting, why are you being so shellfish? cant you see they are trying for you? why cant you just suck it up. they are the one who's hurting not. you. I think the great part about this that sodikken did so well was that this song can be about anything you want. It has elements of being cheery, depressing, hopeful, or hopeless. The theme of this song changes depending on you. You decide what the song is about. All these characters bring a different mood to the performance and your brain makes connections between them and decides the theme of the song, whether it be literal or symbolic. You basically decide what the song is about

All the animations/animatics for this song I can find take the lyrics literally, portraying the singer as a cannibal, but it makes the lines "why do you still believe in me" and "you're completely free, yet you refuse to leave" not fit at all, even the animations themselves never really seem to know what to do with them. The fact that those lines are sung in a slower lower way makes me think they're meant to be taken more literally than the rest of the lyrics. I imagine it's a metaphor for an abusive relationship that the singer is self-aware about and wondering why the other in person in question is so oblivious and won't just leave.

i literally can't stop thinking about this song and what the lyrics embody, and so i came up with an interpretation of my own that makes this song's experience - in my opinion - extremely enjoyable. here's what i got; from the beginning, the singer is clearly portrayed as an antagonistic individual "cannibalizing" another. the majority of the lyrics come across as extremely manipulative - at least in my opinion - and are littered with backhanded 'compliments' to give whomever they're talking to hope, to keep them around. i'll get to the reasoning why as i express my examples, because it's hard without to honestly. - --> "your delicious body heat, its so warm inside of me, its too bad you don't have more meat on your tiny body" to me, this directly means "i appreciate what youve given me - but it's too bad you dont have more!" which can extend further to "what do you mean this is all you have? you COULD have more - you SHOULD have more! i could probably get someone else whose better. you should be grateful that i chose you!" --> "oh, you're dying? what do you mean? you say that i cant eat oh, but its so good, it tastes so sweet, how DARE YOU DEPRIVE ME" this just reeks with gaslighting behaviors in my opinion. like, "what do you MEAN youre having problems? i dont see any problems! how dare you deprive ME. youre the abusive one not me!" i believe this song isn't about eating someone - but instead about being in a relationship with someone manipulative, abusive, and/or perhaps a (dangerous) narcissist. despite the red flags, "you" (the person they're singing to,) stays around - because of their occasional acts of good, as demonstrated further in the song with... --> "but ill feed you your own hands and feet, don't worry, its my treat though i've had my feast, you're not released, cus id like seconds please" ... which i kinda read as "you should be so grateful that im giving you the bare essentials - even though it was yours to begin with, im giving YOU it. it's MY treat. but do know that im gonna need more from you in return for this favor!" but here's the real kicker. after that, it kinds gets self reflective, like... the singing individual is starting to recognize their issues, but MOSTLY they muse around how the person they're abusing is still sticking around them. it's sad, they're starting to.. maybe come across as a victim too, right? a product of their own upbringing, right? hah, nope. --> "in the face of anger you say patience before pride, while you're feeling dead inside, i'm so alive and its all thanks to you that i survived guess i'll say thank you for lending me your life." they switch back to their previous behaviors. they're literally trying to manipulate YOU into feeling bad! as a small personal note, id like to bring up a relationship i was in years ago with someone who had plenty of red flags. i had a therapist tell me something about this relationship that stuck to me, even now, years later, and it goes along the lines of, "he made it out to you that he knew what he was doing wrong. he basically would say, 'i know im a bad person, i acknowledge it, and so you can't criticize me on it'. but it never changed." that's what the "guess ill say thank you" part reminds me of. its just so... patronizing. the "people eater" doesnt actually appreciate whoever 'you' is. theyre punishing them for sticking around, for being patient and caring for them! for feeling hopeful at the small moments of affection the people eater showcases.. you know.. technically, abusive relationships are cannibalism, though not as literal. it's basically feeding off another person for your own gain, right? this is why i personally believe 'people eater' is less about eating actual people, and more about eating one's identity - the person they are. it's about how toxic relationships are about taking and taking and they keep the abused individual dependent by rarely giving back in small and shitty ways to give them hope and patience that things will get better, and that's the 'people eater' - the abuser's - plan. they want you to feel bad, they want you to feel hope, because they live off of it. the people eater is an 'unreliable narrator' singing and trying to lure you into the same trap. to feel bad despite the red flags. but yeah! anyways, ty for listening to my thoughts on this song. im sorry if this is a bit of a stretch but it's how i personally interpret it. regardless of what it may truly mean, i genuinely enjoy this song :)

I feel like the song is from the perspective of someone using another person who cares a lot about them, and feeling bad about it but not being able or willing to stop their destructive behaviour, while the person who loves them allows themself to be cannibalized because they are unable to stand up to someone who they care too much about.

I love the fact that only three of the creatures have actually drawn eyes, not pixel art ones. Kinda seems like it means those are the only real aspects of this characters personality, everything else is a fabrication or lie.

So I can’t eat anymore?” “How dare you deprive me” - they feel entitled to the kindness this person has given them “Where we take care of each others needs? Yeah that’s not happening” - because the care isn’t going both ways, only one person is being eaten, only one is being fed. “But I’ll feed you your own hands and feet” - they treat what was already that persons as if it’s a reward. “Your own hands and feet” “don’t worry it’s MY treat” “Another one in the trash” - implies that this isn’t the first person they’ve gone through and used like this, thrown away once there isn’t anymore to eat. The thought of giving up your meat it’s impossible to sleep” - that they say they can’t live without this person, yet they still aren’t willing to stop eating them By the end, “why do you still believe in me” - sounds like actual guilt But then they blame them saying “you’re free to leave. (The “you’re completely free to leave” part also kinda sounds like they don’t understand what could be keeping them there, like they don’t understand that this person loves them) “Patience before pride” - this person has been patient with them, giving up their pride and not getting angry with them “While you’re feeling dead inside I’m so alive” they’ve taken everything from this person, and are able to still feel good despite this. “It’s thanks to you I survived, guess I’ll say thank you for lending me your life” - as if it’s something as simple as a favor, not their whole life being given to them

And then they want MORE from the friendship, something s3xual that the person from the misery meat MV doesn’t want. 0:15 And, after they don’t get what they want they become violent and aggressive. 0:16 Then the abuser uses manipulation to try to make the character in misery meat MV do what they want. 0:24 And after that the abuser uses manipulation and gaslighting to make the victim feel like they were overreacting and acting a fool. 0:34 Then, the abuser gaslights and guilt trips the victim into believing that the abuser was the victim and the victim is one in the wrong. 0:41 The abuser then continues to manipulate, gaslight, and guilt trip the victim and make themself as the victim. I feel bad this guy, I mean he clearly doesn’t want to be killing people but there is some, unstoppable, craving for human flesh that he can’t stop. Also, with the line “why do you still believe in me?” Really made me tear up, because, just, imagine your this guy, and somebody tries to help you despite missing a leg (because the player has a severed foot in there inventory) and even when they are about to die they refuse to give up on you. It just, it sounds really depressing to me. Also, as everybody else has said, this is an amazing song and you just gained a subscriber. :)

Days of me emotionally helping him made him fall in love with me. I’m aromantic, yet I had forced myself to love him back because I was so scared of him committing suicide. We started dating and it quickly became draining. My mental health was getting poorer each month. He’d ask everyday if I really loved him. He’d get angry at me for coming out as aromantic. He wanted to “fix” me. All those things hurt me so badly, I had started to hate everything about my romantic attraction and wished I wasn’t born this way. I didn’t say a word about how I was feeling. I was never good at doing that. Sometimes I’d have a bad day and he’d start venting to me without my consent. I’d tell him to stop and that I was feeling bad too, but he’d respond to me saying I needed to listen and stop being insensitive. We broke up. Around a week ago, he said he’d kill himself. I said he wouldn’t because I’d stop him. He told me to kiss him on the lips, and I said no. He hugged me very aggressively and that made me very uncomfortable. I was lucky to be in front of my building and to meet with my neighbor there. She saved me from spending any more time with that person. When I went to bed, he sent me a message telling me to write him a text talking about how much I love him. I said “no” and he responded to it saying I was his only reason to be alive and that he needed that. He convinced me to say “I’ll do it” and he said “Thank you for your sacrifice.” - what a weirdo I didn’t write it tho I realized it was all manipulation I wanted him happy. I was happy before I met him. He ate my meat. He’s a people eater. I’ve lended him my life. I don’t feel guilty. Not as I’d feel if this happened to me some years ago, when he had control over me. I blocked him yesterday. Today he’s still chasing me everywhere Sorry for my bad English. I hope you guys understand

I like how the misery meat music video is made using paper puppets, while this video is based on a video game. I could be reading to deep into it but it could be read as the victim feeling delicate and disposable like paper, while the perpetrator is treating the relationship like a game to win
