Every year, over 8 million tons of plastic end up in our oceans, causing devastating effects on marine life and human health. This staggering statistic is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the impact of plastic pollution.
Our guest speaker Judith Enck, president of Beyond Plastics, shares about the environmental, climate, and health impacts of plastics. This was a very informative session and frustrating at the same time. Between big oil, chemical, and plastics companies the money working against us as citizens is overwhelming. If the tobacco industry has taught us nothing else, it's how hard it is to get people to stop using something that is backed by money and special interest lobbying, even when they know it's killing them! I watched a webcast on recycling a month or so ago and was horrified by how little is actually recycled, especially when it comes to plastic. Thank you!
