If you wanna see if it's cold enough to stick without actually sticking your tongue to a pole, you can just lick your finger and press it against the pole, it'll have the same effect and not nearly as painful.

I live in Kansas and one thing with the storms is that when it goes flat dead on the wind instantly along with the calm weather, YOU TAKE COVER FAST. That little trick has saved my hide and others time and time again. Had one twister come close to a place I worked at and just grazed it to where the loading docks and the backside of the stockroom where completely wrecked and we had to shut down for several days to clean up and take a damage assessment. That sucked on so many levels due to the fact the frozen truck was in the dock at the time and it was fully loaded. (It had a stench worse than a cattle truck on a hot day after the event.)

Although it's extremely rare nowadays, some vehicles have engines that are equipped with a snorkel, an engine snorkel is just a long pipe connected to the air intake of the engine, it is placed higher up and shielded against water to allow the engine to have a reliable source of oxygen even in the case of a flood. Worse imagine being trapped in the runaway porta-potty!

4:00 I actually had that happen to me a few times. Since I live in the Midwestern US, the weather where I live is known for, occasionally, throwing hissy fits, but those “occasions” happen more often than they do elsewhere. I remember this one time I had slushy snow in late spring (but I can’t remember exactly), and I was the one to scoop it up. Fortunately, the “slushiness” made it extra easy to shovel.

I only saw one tornado, and that was when I was in basic training waiting to return home (couldn't meet the armies physical requirements, so I was discharged); had a tornado that touched down near the base (it was quite a distance away but still). What sucked is that the next day, they had us helping to clear debris.
@leslietaylor4458
@leslietaylor4458 Жыл бұрын
@Suisfonia talk about cleaning debris... I was in air force at Cannon AFB New Mexico. We had a really bad snowstorm. And after 2 weeks snow still covered the runway. So to get sorties going again they had to send the street sweepers on the runway. It was the last thing they wanted to do because little metal bristles fly off and plant themselves on the runway which poses a FOD hazzard (foreign object debris) that can get sucked up jet engines. So after they ran the street sweepers many of us had to do the FOD Walk.. walk the runway looking for grey metal bristles on a grey runway. 2 miles long. When we done a round trip (4 miles), they ran the maintenance vehicles that have large bar magnets just centimeters from the ground. If they picked up any bristles. It was Start over again.. 4 miles

Nature really wants us all dead. Why does the weather and mother nature always try to kill us? I know the answer, but still. In my native Sweden, we've had a really, really bad drought, until yesterday and today, when it finally came rain, after three whole months without any rain, and the Swedish weather isn't known to be subtle. In Sweden, weather decides what you wear. If it starts snowing in the summer, it starts snowing, and remains so for a week or two. It's Sweden in a nutshell.

Nobody’s going to believe me because I don’t have a video. My family and I were at one of our local Malls (I think it was Hillsdale for those familiar with San Mateo, CA), during an intense rainstorm. We parked in the parking garage, when we heard what sounded like a waterfall. We turned a corner and noticed that one of the staircases had been turned into a noisy flooded waterfall. Edit: Okay, I have loads of stories. Of course the area of California I live in is plagued by wildfires, droughts, and earthquakes, but there’s one thing I never heard of here until the beginning of 2023: Sinkholes. Back in January 2023, heavy rains triggered a faulty drainpipe to collapse and a sinkhole to form under Highway 92 westbound. The road was closed for about a week while the county figured out what to do. Luckily, the stretch of road where the sinkhole formed was two lanes headed eastbound, so one of the eastbound lanes was reconstructed into a westbound lane. This allowed the huge hauler trucks headed for Ox Mountain Landfill to reach their destination and for commuters to resume their normal routes.

I used to go to Dallas for Drs appointments when I was little. One time my mom's friend was driving us home to Amarillo which is about 8 hrs. We were in her little soft top convertible bug. All of a sudden a dust storm descended on us like a plague. You couldnt see anything. Not even the car in front of us. I was only about 7 or 8. It was one of the scariest things I've ever been through. I still have panic attacks on the road 31 years later.

Why would we? It's weighed down by the rain water, and there's not much surface area for the wind to catch it.

That's what I was wondering as well. I was waiting for the engine to die. Well we now know how far a car can go with it's engine submerged lol

The only way that the car was still running was it had a snorkel and was possibly lifted and or had bigger tires than stock

When KZfaq shoves their ADS down your throat, remember this neat little trick: Mute your TV, or other device, and look away for 15 seconds. (Five seconds if skippable). They can force their unskippable ads on you every three minutes, but they can't make you watch and listen to them.

So rare story to be had. It happened while i was living in Sandy, Utah in 1999 ish and my dad was at his CPA building working one day and a tornado came down and went down the street for a few moments, then disappeared shortly after. This is rare cuz if you know Utah, it's surrounded by mountains, and tornadoes don't usually form in places like Utah. It was crazy. And known fact with lightning, it hits the ground multiple times. So the saying "lightning doesn't hit the same place twice" is totally wrong. Every flash we see is the times it's hitting that area. Stay frosty and stay safe!
