@MARK PERRY Wow that's an amazing statement; all he did was state his feelings. There are no " racist actions" to be a racist you must have the power to execute a racist act which so called Black people don't have. Thus black folk can't be racist because we don't have the power to execute it. Now it also amazing that people are so quick to tell black folk to forgive and forget when America never forgave the Taliban ban for their actions. Instead went on to spend trillions to get revenge. The black rage is justified as to this day we're still captivity and oppressed; unequal wages, last hired first fired, police brutality, and unequal justice under the law.

I don’t buy the argument. If I label someone a “farmer” rather than a “person who farms,” I’m not reducing their entire being to being a farmer such that I’m not recognizing that the farmer is a full human being with thoughts, feelings, and lived experiences. The reason why the word “slave” is so powerful is precisely because we all recognize that there’s a full human being behind the term. The word “slave” already incorporates the humanity of the slave-powerfully so. We all know this. In other words, the only difference between “slave” and “enslaved person” is that, in the latter, we’re reminding listeners of what is already obvious: that the slave was a person.

He provides truth in the perspective that our ancestors were people who where kidnapped, tortured and enslaved ... definitely humanizes the experience of our peoples and should not be titled as “the slaves” who they were as a people. Vs “the enslaved” what happened to our people. However, The statement he the author made that lost me was his quote “If the depiction of the slave master is too evil it’s not believable “???? That seems to be a consistent problem with our people in general. As a people “African descendants of the enslaved“ We need to come to terms with the fact that every race of people do not think like us. Everyone is not capable of humane behavior. Those people have demonstrated time and time again from generation to generation, they are incapable of compassion unless it’s towards their beloved and pampered dogs 🐕 . The moment we understand and accept that is the nature this beast and his beastly woman as well ( “she devils “ do not get a pass either “Brothers”), we will be able to see those devils for who they really are and circle the wagons and strategize accordingly! This is critical to acknowledge and prepare for our futures. I say this all the time. Why are the oppressors and the oppressed continuing to perpetuate this horribly misleading characterization of black people who were enslaved? This is not where their history began. Instead of calling them slaves we should put the emphasis on the criminal acts of others who enslaved them because they were not slaves, they were enslaved, it was a role that was forced on them by criminal acts.

I’ve got a more productive idea: show whites how much they need blacks, by moving en mass, to Africa. That’ll show whitey!

@@ravekingbitchmaster3205 Are you kidding me? How do you think we got here? Please don't tell me white men ran into African jungles, bagged us, and brought us here without anyone (neighboring tribes) noticing. In case you didn't know, it was tribal leaders who played a complicit role in the transatlantic slave trade. Our black brothers/sisters sent our bloodlines to the western world in trade for guns and other commodities. Also, if every AM moved to Africa, the world has us just where it wants us - every black body on one continent. Lastly, if Africa wanted us there, it would come for us a long time ago. Pipe dream.

@@ronizzle50 Not necessarily. Depends on the intent and context. "Slave" or "enslaved" are words. The context, delivery and intent dictate whether they dehumanize and oppress.

When u use the word enslaved you then have to ask the question by who? We didn’t enslave ourself... they were not slave masters they were enslavers, rapist, murderers, thieves, amongst other things... we have to call it as it is.

I beg to differ, our ancestors were taken (some of which were slaves in their own countries in Africa), enslaved, and became slaves in this country. For every action (enslaved); there is a reaction, slavery! We are demystifying and softening a cruelty done to our people. Respectfully disagree with Mr. Coates.

Lets see, the definition of enslaved, means to make a slave of. Crazy that someone would try and use words in different ways to try and make something better because you dont want to accept the word slave. Slaves are the Slavs which is a bloodline i.e. Polish, Irish, Dutch ect. We were never slaves but rather prisoners of war in exile in our own land. Check out the Anglo-Moroccan Alliance of the 1600s and years before that and you can and will see that we have a vast history as rulers who dominated the world.

let us be realistic,...Once you are enslaved........You become a slave!...... Both terms are not incorrect. they are synonymous. It is all how we wish to phrase it.........When your mind is truly free, it doesn't really matter what phrase you wish to use.......
