That is an Awesome story. I wish I could help but I live totally across the State. I still might even try to make it. This is precisely why TCR was created. To highlight such wonderful heartwarming stories like these instead of the junk on the news nowdays. Thanks TCR

I know how it is, I'm from a small town, I went to Dallas I had enough after a few minutes of traffic, Austin and Houston are the same, nice to visit but I'll take my two redlights over the stressful congestion of city life.
@madampolo
@madampolo 4 жыл бұрын
Me, too. I lived for 55 years in Houston since I was born there. I love Houston, it's a beautiful city, but the traffic is murder. I drove those freeways and know about the stressful congestion. I moved to within 50 miles of Austin and found Austin's freeways are the same. I now live in a rural area and maybe pass one car in 7 miles to the nearest little town. Which one would you take?

My mother used to smoke sausages. Portuguese sausages and blood sausage. A whole pig slaughtered for bacon, sausages, ribs, chops, pork bellies . The feet, tail, knees, and feet were also used. Can’t do it anymore. Family shrunk, the strength is gone. She is still alive and bakes bread every two weeks. Same as they do at your featured story. The store bread is crunchy at the crust And fluffy within , but it is full of bromide. Besides, she is a stickler for perfection , the right flour , ingredients, the proper environment for loaves to grow. Home made is the way to go for taste a nutrition’s sake. Glad others carry in the tradition.

I hope Keith and Byron see this video. Maybe they will help keep the history alive. My sons were born in Littlefield Hospital and raised in Pep, Texas. Thanksgiving was a huge event in Pep. All the ladies cooked two 40 pound turkeys and 10 pounds of dressing, ten pies, ten cakes, and ten loaves of bread. We served 100's of people Lunch and Dinner. Then the dance with great live bands that lasted way into the night. So sad to see all that lost in the past and remembered only by the people who experienced it all. Most dead and gone or the young moved away. A piece of history in Texas gone.

Nice story & hope they can keep tradition going - BUT: ..."we always pray and hope for new families to come in"... - - I wonder if they really mean it. Would they still 'pray for new families' if they weren't white? Brown, Black, Asian....?? 🤔

I don't get it. If the product is so good, why make it to sell once a year? The only way to increase the local population is to create jobs by turning that place into a daily enterprise, no?

Because it's about tradition not so much the money, otherwise it would burn out the community. It's the same way in St. Lawrence Texas.
@madampolo
@madampolo 4 жыл бұрын
@@vgarza1972 Except that needing the money for the church is all they talk about. I think the reason they don't is that the people that make the bread and sausage also work their farms. They mention that instead of bringing in their wheat and cotton, for one day they volunteer for the church.
