I believe that Pepsi is bigger than most people realize. This video attempts to convey their size by outlining some of their main categories of sales over the years.

I think it was around 2004 that I found an PepsoCo annual report booklet around the house. Being me, I read the whole thing. I was one of those kids who liked to bring up "fun facts" that were actually only fun to me. I told a bunch of my friends, who had just purchased gatorades on a school field trip that they purchased drinks from Pepsi. They argued incessantly about how Gatorade was "it's own company!" I wish I was petty enough to show them this video.

I ran a fast food store in the 90s and we served Pepsi. They supplied the dispenser machine, product, and cups. I figured the cost, the soda cost us 3 cents / cup, the cup cost 5 cents each. With such low cost we gave free re-fills. Our machine broke one day so I quickly called the company. Within 30 minutes a repairman was there and finished within 5 minutes. Have to admit that that is great management.

the biggest danger is that with a brand as big as this, starting a boycott is impossible. it's not just a single item, it's pretty much everyday snacks and drinks for people in america. i specifically remember a boycott trying to be sparked a few months or so ago because of the way frito lays treats their employees, and the list of brands was so big that it didn't go very far

I and my family live and have been living in New Bern, NC (birthplace of Pepsi~Cola) since the 1700s when it was first settled. The Pharmacy (on Middle St, in downtown New Bern) that Caleb Bradham developed the drink in is still there and you can get a mighty fine fountain Pepsi. I actually lived on Middle St just 2 blocks N of the pharmacy and would go for a Pepsi and Pop Corn every weekend.

Pepsi also owned its own Navy at one point. Although I believe they either sold/scraped the vessels since they were outdated at it's time and Pepsi had no need for a navy, they once received the vessels in a deal for payment from the old USSR. PepsiCo is actually the biggest food conglomerate in America! Bigger than Coca Cola, because they’re not just a soda company, they own snack foods by Frito Lays, Quaker Oats, and even once own fast food companies! Should do a video on Yum Brands! KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut are all still selling Pepsi products and flavors even after the spinoff! Some additional facts that were skipped in this video: 1. PepsiCo owns the distribution rights of 7-Up outside North America. 2. Prior to its distribution deal with PepsiCo in 2009, Rockstar Energy had a partnership with Coca-Cola in the 2000s. One of the products of the partnership was the short-lived Von Dutch energy drink. 3. Dr Pepper's distribution deals are split between Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Cadbury-Schweppes, and other independent bottlers depending on region. It gets confusing in some cities; for example, half of Los Angeles has Dr Pepper distributed by Coca-Cola while the other half of the city receives their supply from PepsiCo. 4. Lipton Iced Tea (including Brisk) is a joint venture between Unilever and PepsiCo. 5. Prior to PepsiCo's acquisition of Quaker Oats, they had their own sports drink called "All Sport" in the 1990s. Since the Quaker Oats acquisition gave them ownership of Gatorade, PepsiCo no longer needed the All Sport brand and sold it to The Monarch Beverage Company. 6. PepsiCo left Indonesia in 2019 due to poor sales and a falling out with the local distributor. As a result, KFC and Pizza Hut chains in the country switched to Coca-Cola.

Pepsi is arguably the biggest player in the grocery store, perhaps the biggest player ever. Dominating snacks so that effectively they have an entire aisle in stores is huge. Add to that their sodas, flavored waters, etc. Then add in their restaurant holdings, manufacturing facilities, marketing, etc etc.

Mike, in the future, would you ever consider making a mini-series that talks (more in-depth) JUST about certain finance terms (aka Spin-off, Hostile Takeover, Same-store sales, Merger, etc.)? I think it would a great way to have new content that is in your expertise. Plus, you could break it down in a digestible way for laypeople like us. A series like this could also promote your channel more, since it's educational value could be more sharable among ppl (like teachers, students, profs etc) that don't know your channel. Leading them to check it out.

Thanks for the coverage of PepsiCo. You covered lots of stuff I hadn't known. One mistake you made concerned Diet Pepsi being the first nationwide diet drink. You mentioned Coke's Tab (which was my favorite for a lot of years) as another early diet drink. But the first was actually Diet Rite Cola. It was introduced in 1958 and became nationwide in 1962, still beating Pepsi as the diet drink originator, which came out in 1963.
