My grandpa used to sing this to my grandmother and no matter where they were even driving he would pull over and drag her out of the car to dance. He used to sing it to her with such conviction he loved her more than life. He passed on in 2013 and grandma is now very sick and on her way out. I came here to listen to this to remind myself when it’s her time to cross over he will be there probably with the real Percy singing and dancing. I need to listen to this to remind myself she’s going to be in a better place with her love. Life can be so heartbreaking sometimes

It's really a shame how this man - arguably the greatest *natural tenor* soul balladeer of all time - was so underrated by his peers. No Grammy (not even a nomination) no Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The only known singer to attend his funeral was Dorothy Moore. RIP Percy. You will always be a legend to your fans.

Love still exists. I fell in love twice this year. One is still unfolding while I am not sure about the other. Love can be hard to find at any age. It took me most of my life. As the great Van Morrison wrote in The Beauty of the Days Gone By---when the heart is awake, is open, when it FEELS the beauty, then you can fall in love with another person and they will want to love you. OK, it's mumbo jumbo for you need to be ready for to fall in love.

I saw him a number of years ago and he was still beyond wonderful! Naturally, he was a lot older than in this video and gained a few pounds but the performance he put on was unforgettable - especially when he sang When A Man Love a Woman. He never got the credit he deserved and worst of all, he got no royalties from this song.
@mikeupshaw20872 жыл бұрын
Why didn't he get any royalties? He nad many great songs that no one could sing like him. Many tried, but couldn't compare.
@rmelin132312 жыл бұрын
@@mikeupshaw2087 My understanding is that he did write the song, when he finished it, he received some 'final touches' help from some friends. When all was done, Percy gave FULL writing credits to his friends who helped him. SUCH CLASS! The songwriters are the ones who receive royalties ad infinitum. That says a lot about Percy Sledge.
@Wotsitorlabart2 жыл бұрын
@@rmelin13231 I think the story of who wrote what depends on who is telling the tale.
@howlerhowler Жыл бұрын
The royalties went to the writers as it should have. Percy made his money on the road and the writers got none of that $$, That was the deal back then..

The kids will be fine. Still music like this made and played today in local music scenes. I think I'll have a go at performing it too. It's just not pop for this generation but it will probably come back around. Well the melody certainly will 😅 So many variations of Pachelbel's Canon.

You are correct. The current generation is musically lost and lazy. There is very little hope it will change.

Danced in the dark on New Years Eve with my ex to this song. That was almost 3 years ago and I'm physically incapable of listening to this song without crying. I felt her crying on my shoulder while we danced. It still amazes me that someone that once loved you so much becomes a stranger over time and decides to leave. Percy Sledge shows so much emotion in this song, underrated singer.

When a man loves a woman Can't keep his mind on nothin' else He'd change the world for the good thing he's found If she is bad, he can't see it She can do no wrong Turn his back on his best friend if he put her down When a man loves a woman He'll spend his very last dime Tryin' to hold on to what he needs He'd give up all his comforts And sleep out in the rain If she said that's the way It ought to be Well, this man loves you, woman I gave you everything I had Tryin' to hold on to your heartless love Baby, please don't treat me bad When a man loves a woman Down deep in his soul She can bring him such misery If she is playin' him for a fool He's the last one to know Lovin' eyes can never see When a man loves a woman He can do her no wrong He can never want Some other girl Yes when a man loves a woman I know exactly how he feels Cause baby, baby, you're my world When a man loves a woman...
