Re-watched the film the other day and fell down the rabbit hole :0
Honestly tho I missed seeing him, wished we'd get a villain like him again/alt a sequel/prequel featuring him ^^

I always liked the interpretation that the sooth sayer was like a family friend like shens un official grandma. He argued and yelled at her but never could bring himself to hurt her so let her go at the end

In some old page of dreamworks, they revealed she was Shen's nanny, that would explain why he didn't hurt her and just got angry at her (nothing more tho, even if she ate his robes), maybe it's a deleted concept but for me they implied it in the movie, because when you find out that she was his nanny, their relationship between of why he doesn't imprison her and even lets her go gets explained.

There also might be the assumption soothsayers can't help seeing what they see, even if it causes them personal distress. So getting mad at them is kind of pointless in a way getting mad at a normal advisor wouldn't.

@@oshkeet Yeah it could be that one but since Shen was blaming everyone for what happened to him, he could really tell it was her fault and prison her or being more cruel at her, but at the end he didn't, even when she dare to eat his robes and wasn't doing her job of guessing the future, he didn't react so bad and never hurt her... so it makes you think that she was more than just a soothsayer for him, like a nanny in the past imo.

It hurts even more considering how he believes his parents hated him, and yet, he knows she never did. They care about each other. He could throw away any relationship or memory he had with his parents, but not her

@@SirLuckySlime So true... He threw his father's throne away with anger and with little remorse, he could even say that she also hated him because she was the one that said the prophecy, but he never did, he knew she always loved him.

Yeah after seeing the film again I refuse to believe she was simply 'okay' with this. Like, I get she's glad for the people of Gongmen City and beyond (China over all) but as for Shen I always assumed she was happy he'd found peace, since he couldn't in this life. Still, since they pretty much implied (sorta) that besides just being the royal Soothsayer I like to think she must have been his Amah growing up, ofc much changed after his banishment and later return as a warlord but seeing how close they are in the film- I mean 0.0

Indeed, one would think a highborn such as himself would not receive the full blow of society's judging gaze. Perhaps he didn't, this is just my interpretation of how it happened but I do think his 'unique physical appearance' definitely affected him growing up 😢 Still, that's no reason for what he did, although, thinking it over and applying the same logic to real life (which no, you should absolutely not do I'm just brainstorming here) I can totally see something like this happening and that person would have been seen as 'in the right' by their society? I mean think about it, the pandas seemed to have been a minority and lived separately, we never get to see how the people of Gongmen City reacted to this happening (not that I think they would have been ecstatic or anything) but it's very reminiscent of a lot of real historic events where things like this have happened.. Food for thought I guess o.o Still I DON'T APPROVE of what he did, just to make that clear 0.0

@@the_sleepless_dream Well when most Royals are defeated they meet a very unpleasant end. And as KFP 2 shown while the prophecy only said Shen would be defeated a lot more happened than just that. So how would Shen know if his family and people he cares about wouldn't get caught up in this? If these people are trying to destroy Shen for nothing from his point of view is he right to defend himself and prevent this or just let it happen? And then there's the whole emotional side of things like Shen knowing that at any point in time some Panda or Pandas could destroy him. Because Shen wouldn't even be able to know if its just one panda doing it or many. Because a random soldier from a Panda army delivering the killing blow would still be a warrior of black and white defeating him Shen has so much to be losing if he chooses to do nothing

@@the_sleepless_dream I think its good to have some semblance of real world politics. However if its makes the story more interesting I feel as those rules can be bent as long as it makes sense in their world.

@@jammygamer8961 Oh yes well ofc you need rules and logic for a story to work (assuming it's in an alternative reality like KFP is) but I meant it more so in, 'don't confuse real life tragedies for fictional ones', as in, depending on a lot of factors of course, Shen would likely not have been allowed to leave the city once his parents found out what he had done, no banishment here :0 And like you said, his final fate would have likely been a lot more gruesome then what we got in the film Dx But yeah, as long as the story makes sense and is enjoyable to read/watch than rules can be more than flexible ^^

I wish it was included too but for me, maybe it happened off screen because we don't know what his childhood was like and some of his teenage years, because in the movie they show his story when he's already an adult, so maybe something happened in those years when he was younger.

It makes sense, because even in the nature situation albino is seen as a desability by the others animals even by the same species. Since it can be easly seen by predators and considerating the nature is just predators and prey, it's sadly true.

@@the_sleepless_dream I'm one of those weird fans that hope for redemption arc lol. I like to think Soothsayer wouldn't of been smiling knowing this was the end for Shen. Since he's almost like a son to her.

@@the_sleepless_dream Well Oogway was a warlord who was the brother in arms with the greatest Warlord of All of China. If Shen is just a fairly regular warlord i don't want to know what those two got up to... Also i've checked and theres the chance Shen can get an extenuating pardon. Which would save him, but also allow for some level of punishment if the writer wants to.

@@jammygamer8961 I'm not that well read on the lore of the KFP universe but having seen the third movie I'm aware of Oogway's past, and yeah it's scary to think about considering (in their world at least) Kung Fu is practically magic o.o You know while doing some research I realized how little fanfiction there was on this guy, honestly thinking of writing some myself but we'll see, got more videos to finish Dx Edit* Just gonna drop this off here.. no one will know 0.0 Shen fanfic I just wrote: archiveofourown.org/works/50335270

This maybe the reason that's why he hates animals in his village thats why he broke the bridge, and also it isn't Shen's fault for being a villain when Soothsayer wouldn't even tell him, he would still suffer from their judgement 😢

The fact that Shen never got a single line in KFP4 was utter discrimination, gosh I DESPISE Mike Mitchell more because of this... Treating his staff and co workers as garbage is a red flag in on its own, and if you saw his older concept then you would be utterly be disgusted at how atrocious his idea was. Dreamworks can't just turn back anymore, with Megamind 2 they can because it was utterly atrocious and was not even recognized as a genuine sequel. Good job, Mike... You just ruined TWO genuinely good KFP villains that could have an interesting dynamic on the movie. Shen with the Soothesayer, Po, and Li Shan. Along with Tai Lung and Shifu.
