22 years ago I was an 18 year old starting out as a music producer; I loved DBZ, and I loved Perfect Cell. I had heard Mike Smith’s legendary Perfect Cell theme in the show every day for months on end, so one day I decided to recreate the melody in Fruity Loops for fun, and then I ended up fleshing it out into an industrial-metal style track.
Fast forward to present day, I discover that this track, which I had forgotten about a long time ago, has since taken on a life of its own. @curlyhairdude535 had uploaded it to KZfaq 15 years ago, and since then it has had 20 million views, and has featured in a number of other videos - AMVs, covers, skits, piano lessons and so on.
This all came as a very unexpected but pleasant surprise to me, and I’ve had a great time checking out the content and reading the comments. It seems that it’s been the subject of an “internet mystery” for some time, with no one knowing who the mysterious creator was. @jnd117clipz created a video outlining his own investigation, which was very entertaining. He came so close to the answer, but ran out of leads, and then @anigamingnetwork8827 used way-back-machine to connect the last few dots in the investigation. After receiving his email, I decided to emerge from the shadows and resolve the mystery once and for all! (sorry if you were hoping it was going to be someone cool)
Thanks again to Mike Smith for composing the original theme, and thanks very much to all the DBZ fans out there who left a nice comment about the track over the years, I’m glad so many people have enjoyed it, and I hope you continue to do so.

And lastly here's a little zip file with a few tracks from the ill-fated DBQ mod, including the oldest MP3 render I could find of the Perfect Cell track itself: archive.org/de...
