Q: Can you connect Perfect Pass to Castle Link / quick-connect
A: Yes.
Q: Is Perfect Pass water proof?
A: No it is not. Therefore we recommend installation inside your receiver box, to protect it from moisture and dirt.
Q: It’s not clear to me how the setting changes on the transmitter and the potentiometer on the Perfect Pass unit effect operation of Perfect Pass
A: To visualize how Perfect Pass works, plug a servo into the Perfect Pass male connector and work the throttle quickly, slowly, apply brake, etc. You can also use this method to visualize the effect of adjusting the potentiometer, or changing a setting on the transmitter such as the throttle trim.
Q: It says that the first 15% of throttle works without delay but I don’t get any immediate response when I first move the throttle trigger, what should I do?
A: With some radios, due to variation in the neutral point, you may not get immediate response when you start to move the throttle trigger. To address this, lower your throttle trim to the minimum setting, then re-calibrate your ESC. If this gives too much initial response, try moving throttle trim halfway between centered and minimum value.
Q: I have the potentiometer turned all the way clockwise but I can’t get more than 5 seconds or so, of delay - what should I do?
A: If you have a transmitter that has a "super-response" mode, such as higher end Futaba or similar - and you can't get enough delay even with the potentiometer adjusted fully clock-wise, try putting the transmitter into normal mode and you can extend the amount of delay you can achieve.
Q: I installed Perfect Pass and it seems to be working but my car is slower than it was before. What can cause this?
A: Re-check that you have radio settings to zero trim, zero sub-trim, zero expo, 100% end-point - and that you have correctly calibrated the ESC. If you get the same result, it’s probably because you have too much delay and you are not reaching full throttle before you have to get out of the throttle. Try reducing the amount of delay by turning the potentiometer screw counter - clockwise to reduce the amount of delay. You can plug a spare servo into Perfect Pass male connector to visualize how much delay you are getting. For speed running, try setting the potentiometer to get about 6-7 seconds to reach full-throttle.
Q: I looked at my ESC data log and I am not getting to full throttle, and the more I turn the potentiometer screw clockwise, the less power I get at full-throttle. What can cause this?
A: It’s probably because you are not holding throttle open long enough for Perfect Pass to ramp its output to 100%, so that the ESC delivers 100% power to the motor. Try holding throttle open longer, or reducing the delay of Perfect Pass by adjusting the potentiometer screw counter-clockwise. You can plug a spare servo into Perfect Pass male connector to visualize how much delay you are getting and how long you have to maintain full-throttle on the throttle trigger to reach full power. For speed running, try setting the potentiometer to get about 6-7 seconds to reach full-throttle. For drag racing, try setting the potentiometer to get about 1 second to reach full-throttle.
Q: I tried it for speed runs and it seemed to work as expected but part-way into the pass the power cut, and then the car slowly started to accelerate again - what could it be?
A: Most likely you had a radio glitch that caused the throttle signal to drop out briefly, which can cause Perfect Pass to “re-set”, like if you quickly backed off the throttle than pulled to full-throttle again. If your radio has programmable options for “Fail Safe”, setting throttle to maintain last valid signal during a drop-out will address this. There may still be radio issues (with or without Perfect Pass installed) that deserve further troubleshooting.
Q: Will the car drive itself?
A: No, you still have to drive your car! Steering is unaffected. Throttle is smoother and more gradual, but you are still in control and responsible for safe operation at all times.
Q: is launch control cheating ?
A: No.
