The peep sight is an absolute MUST have in compound archery. It allows you to line up the front sight with a rear (peep) sight, just like on a long range accuracy rifle using iron sights. In hunting situations, a larger diameter peep is preferred to allow in more light in low light bowhunting conditions. However, the bigger the peep, the greater the opportunity to have a front sight/rear peep sight misaligned. During my offseason training and shooting, I reduce my peep size in order to force myself to be better aligned. This quickly shrinks group size and will give you a quick understanding about the importance of these two aspects of aiming and accuracy. This video talks you through this concept more in depth and can give you something to apply to your off-season to get better groups down range!

I had to go down to a 1/8" peep with the UV3 scope mounted on the Spot Hogg sight. Getting the right size is super important for consistency.

I got rid of my peep altogether. Two solid reference points, and anything 50 yards and in, is going down. Came in real handy on a ten point I shot this year that came in quickly. I didn’t even have time to turn on my cam, turned on a Tactacam, anchored and shot in about 15 seconds. Not have a peep was big in the quick pick of the target and taking the shot.

Can you explain what you mean by perfect eclipse? Are you trying to achieve a balance where the housing is the exact size as your perceived peep size and therefore any daylight that comes between the peep and the housing signifies misalignment?

Smaller peeps allowed my groups to tighten up. Amount of light is important point to consider as you said for low light conditions. I have an idea for a peep that has smaller threaded inserts to reduce peep dia. for target shooting. It came about one day I was playing with 1911 grip bushing and thought to insert the screw for it and drilled it out. I never followed up and tried to tie in, but I imagine one day I will.

With your thousands of shots and probably perfect and consistent anchor points have you ever considered shooting without a peep? I prefer not having it but I'm pretty new to compound bows, having started with traditional it felt more natural. What are your thoughts? Thanks man.

The more anchor points the better he’s said. No way would he give up such an outstanding lineup tool like a peep. Nose to string and peep keep things consistent. I added a nose button. Can’t believe how tight my groups got the instant I tied it on. And ensures you can’t press the nose too hard on the string. I wonder what he thinks about them.

Set your peep with your housing at 60 yards

It’s the same sight picture as shooting any other distance. Nothing is different at 100 than 20. Move the sight to the distance. Center the pin and peep

I’m restricted in peep size due to the fact that I have to run a verifier to see my pins. Can you possibly explain that concept more. There is tons of info out there for the “target” guys running clarifier/ magnification but almost no info that really explains the dynamics of shooting with verifiers.

I believe if you use the Hamskea Insight peep, you should be able to swap your aperture size without having to remove your verifier.

I have a bowtech solution as with a spot Hogg sight and when I look threw my peep, my riser hides my sight from 2 to 4 o’clock (I’m a lefty). I can’t find any info on if this is normal. (I’m new)

I'm a new-ish compound bow shooter / hunter and with my current bow (Bear WhiteTail pro) when at full draw i cannot see the outer ring of the front site, inside the peep (which is what I understand, is desired) I did try a smaller peep and my groups started going everywhere but where I wanted them. is my A) first site to large for my rear peep (1/4") or is there some other issue with my draw / setup that causes this?

Peep is not the right height, will have to slide it up or down to get perfect alignment to sight.

I've love your videos and have watched dozens and dozens of them and you have helped improve my shooting. However, very disappointed with this video. Not the content, but rather the editing. I can't stand this split screen portrait mode or whatever it's called. It's distracting and I just don't see the point to it. It's popular among the younger generations and the media and I have no idea why. Technology gave us widescreen...use it. Using this for creative videos...maybe. But for instructional videos? No, I hate it. Sorry to be a curmudgeon but that's my opinion.
