I love Mike’s teaching style and explanations, he “speaks” my golf language. I have many of his videos liked to go back and watch regularly.

One of the very few guys on KZfaq that actually knows what he is saying. Two things along the same line. The putter is actually opening and closing on the arc RELATIVE TO THE TARGET.. And the putter blade must stay PERPENDICULAR to the tilted plane it travels on. Also the release you talk about serves two purposes. One it reduces the bad effect of timing. And secondly it puts the putter into a condition that it is less inclined to twist. You must give up control of the putter in order to get control of the putter. This is what all good putters do.

Thank you! I coach kids, and it is so hard to convince them how important rolling the line actually is. This video will certainly help me convince them (well at lease some of them). LOL!

I’ve used this now for my last two rounds. Today I made five putts in that 5-8 foot knee knocker range. I just line up the triple tracks on the ball with my line and just concentrated on striking the ball square with the right speed.

Great tips. Ladder drill takes practice and skill to develop speed feels. Only problem with walking off your putts on the course is people get annoyed at the delays.

Cool factoid: The club with the highest smash factor in your bag isn't the driver, it's actually the putter. You're welcome.

If you would quit chasing the ball with your head you would hit it squarely. Watch Mike's head through the stroke and impact. Rock steady!

@@BEBETTERGOLF I saw Cam Smith using a mirror on the putting practice green. I got one and started using it and realized just how terrible my posture was. The mirror had a way to make a tee gate to putt through too. My quality of strike has improved greatly. I would suggest everyone get a mirror. But if you will watch people putt 99% of the guys you see at your local course will not keep the head steady. People want to follow the ball.

Absolutely true. A local pro always tells me to keep my head still and don't chase the ball. I started making short putts more often.

Nah, don’t use that for distance control use the following instead but yes, keep the tempo the same. On a flat surface find a flat area and check for direction of the grain. Put a tee in the ground and take 10 of your normal steps and put a tee in the ground. Hopefully one direction is with grain and back is against grain. Start at one tee and putt towards the other. Take a 10” backswing and increase the backswing by 1” till you get the ball 18” past the other tee. Let’s say it took 12” backstroke then your distance control is set at number of steps 10 + 2 or 12” backstroke to get the ball 18” past the tee/hole. If the hole is 15 steps take a 17” backstroke and if only 3 steps (roughly 9’) tba 5” backstroke. Different speed greens will give you a different equation like fast greens could be just number of steps = backstroke and just keep your steps constant distance and your stroke a constant tempo. Then adjust for going up or down green slope or with vs against grain which usually adds or subtracts 2”-3” to or from your backstroke on normal speed greens.

the line might be wobbling but the ball isn't! Nice control on that ladder drill mind you.

Ladder drill is very flawed. Why? Because when you play, you didn't get the previous putts distance and feel to help gauge your current ladder putt attempt. Most people cannot gauge distance because they haven't hit a putt for 10 minutes since the last green! Ladder drill needs to have a 10 minute gap, driver/irons hits in between and different slope to be useful, which means it's not a ladder drill! The only way to practice distance is to hit a 6 ft putt , 60 ft putt, 20 ft putt, walk to different holes between each putt and ONLY use 1 ball on the putting green. Again, this is for distance control

Thanks, Brendan...love your video's but I see the old annoying habit of interrupting Mike and then walking around doing something else while he's talking has crept back. It comes across as disrespectful (although I know it's not intended that way). I want to hear Mike and watch him as he's a Master Instructor...thanks again for what you do. I really learn a lot from these videos.

If you’re not squaring your face to the path at impact, you’ll be adding side spin to the ball and you’re not going to be a good putter. Try the line drill here with an in to out or out to in path and you’ll find it’s impossible to get a pure roll on the ball.

I think studies show that putting is 98% face. See Billy Mayfair’s stroke…
