Hello! Measure your waist where you want it and add enough to create a casing for your elastic. Add enough for the width of your elastic, plus a little for the fold over to give you a clean edge.

What a great video. Many years ago, when you visited Perth, Western Australia, I brought the complete set of design packs. Unfortunately i did not put the effort in a beginner sewer. I lost interest in all types of sewing, I gave the whole lot away to the Op shop. What a big mistake. I learnt so much just watching this video. It is enough to get me back into sewing. Keep up the good work.

Mary Arrow - What a shame you didn't follow through and use your SFD kits at the time. I still have customers from 38 years ago who still love using their master patterns...particularly as their body changes. You simply need to re-draw your personal body blueprint.

Thankyou glenda. Very helpful information as always. Thanks to your pants kit i finally have a perfect fitting pants pattern. It took a couple trys but i finally got it. It was mainly measuring the crotch inaccurately at first but once you get it right its the best feeling

Great tutorial Glenda! The pant kit is going to be my next purchase so I’m catching up on the SFD pants videos in readiness to use it..I was initially a little nervous about the thought of making pants but your videos in the learning centre have also helped to demystify the process for me. A great resource, so many thanks for that.

I am a newbie so this is very helpful. I made my first successful pair of shorts last year using your kit. I actually have a pants pattern made but I took time away to follow Joy Bernhardt on doing the SFD pattern and sewing tutorial for button down blouse. I’ve made 2 blouses. I can’t say they are perfect but they are pretty darn good. I still need to improve sleeve area. Again this tutorial is so helpful and I can’t wait to make long pants to match my blouses.

Patricia Bennett - that jacket is designed from the Dress Kit. The design line is a princess line variation. I have the directions for designing and sewing it. It will be a downloadable Fashion Leaflet...just need to get it up on the website. Thanks for your feedback and comments.

Hi Glenda. I what to do a pajamas pants. And the front crotch is the same as yours. But I want to put elastic waist. So do I fold at the waist? or do I ADD more fabric so I can fold it? If I did that wouldn’t that make the crouch longer? Thanks

I like to know when u lay your pattern pant on the fabric to cut out.. do u face the crotch on both patterns FACING EACH OTHER or do the crotch sides have to be facing outside to the left and the other outside to the right????

@christinabarnes1105 - it doesn't matter which way the crotch extension faces. Just make sure to keep both grainlines parallel to the selvage.

@@glendasparling8896 isn’t the crouch length different than the extension length when making a pants pattern.. some people say you calculate your extension when making a pattern by using your hip measurements and crotch depth.
