P5 sounds like there are some fr trimmed but nevertheless still surprisingly good! Its also thinner and unnaturally tamed but hello, it's a 220 bucks! Great video as always Dan!

I prefer Monarch. The Aful sounds like a cheaper copycat. Very good sound, but not as full.

@@dansaudioreviews the frequency response of these two IEMs is very similar and consequently the sound as well. Price is a very bad identifier for the sound of headphones, for IEMs even worse. IEMs are purely determined by FR.

Great video Dan. At first relatively similar but after some time you wish MKII more but not for 600 price difference for sure, maybe 100-200 more.

P5 sounds quite close to the mk2 with a quarter of the price 🙀 need more songs to make sure the p5 can deliver in all genres great comparison 👍

The Performer 5 has noticeably lower resolution but only noticeable f you are comparing to TOTL IEM (listened with ier z1r v 2.0)

even tho the graph is similar, it will be back to the price I guess. I think that P5 need to be compared to something in the price range like, Blessing 2, 2 dusk, and 3, ie200, and planars like heyday.

I'm surprised that the P5 sounds so similar in the bass and mid regions. When the switch occurs, I can hardly tell. It's really the Monarch's treble that clearly sets it apart for the better. You can hear the hi-hat rythmn along with it's dynamics and airy sizzle so much easier and more defined than the P5. It seems like the P5 is a good value. Is the Monarch mkII 4-5x times better considering it's price, no. But, personally, I'm looking for the best possible audio that meets my musical preferences and reflects the intention of the artists who created it. If I want to save a buck, I buy in bulk and shop at Costco.

If you're going to do a full test, it would be awesome to hear a song with actual drumming in the test. I find it easier to pick up how detail the bass is on those over electronic bass.

I mean there are literally cymbals used in this track, quite a bit of difference between the 2 in tonality, but in this sample they sound very close

I have the P5. It's a nice set, but the upper midrange can sound unusually sharp sometimes, and the bass is a bit over-emphasized for my taste

you could hear the high hats/snare (?) (not sure myself but the sound on your right ear) the monarch is much more pronounced = supposedly more detailed

Sounds like the Monarch has better extension, more depth and air to the soundstage. Not much to say about Mids in this clip but the Bass on both seems good, maybe it's slightly better on Monarch but hard to tell from this clip.

The point of diminishing returns is way lower than regular price of Monarch. So you can't expect wonders of any kilobuck IEMs.

Looking to get an endgame IEM by the end of the year, the Monarch MKII is on my list of considerations but the shell is too big. The biggest IEM I have on hand is the Xenns Mangird Tea 2, fits me well. Do you think I'll get a good fit?

ThieAudio has a history of large shells. Sorry to say. But for $500 more you can get the MEST. I know it’s a big jump in price, but the fit is more reliably comfortable (but, then again, the sound is highly fit dependent and finicky for some people). I would suggest the Maestro SE, but that’s practically double the price of the monarch. I could completely understand if that suggestion is ridiculous then. But…it does fit very snug and nicely (smaller shell than monarch and it has a very long neck that keeps the IEM snug in the ear). And the sound is of course terrific.
