This interview is one of my all time favorites. This is a subject that I would love to see more of. Mrs Hannigans has a perspective that many of us would enjoy hearing more of.

This discussion was fascinating, extremely informative, and deeply inspiring. I’m particularly fascinated by how Hannigan has sought out training in all sorts of disciplines outside of music in order to bring greater confidence and nuance to her work on stage. When a performer of her distinction speaks so vulnerably about matters like stage fright and the different ways she’s learned to negotiate it with grace, it slashes my own shame about such issues in half. We performers want to disguise our fear from the the audience before us, but it’s so important that we find a team (as she put it) to be candid and vulnerable with and who will provide feedback that grows us as artists and performers. It goes without saying that Hannigan isn’t the only multi-talent in this interview. Sarah, you bring your remarkable ability to listen and think on your toes to your work here, navigating the computer, questions from viewers around the world, and your role as an interviewer with real aplomb. As Hannigan says, more or less, “women are multi-taskers.” Thank you so much for this wonderful discussion!

Id just like to mention, that Ms Hannigan - besides being a breathtaking singer and musician - is one of the (or even *_the_* ) most gifted conductor(s) I have ever watched. Why can she not become (physically) immortal?

On preparation, what a great quote: "I learned that piece (Ligeti) like a Mozart concert aria.Very slowly, very, very, carefully; incredibly disciplined attention (believe it or not) to do the most beautiful tone that I could, with the most disciplined technique that I could." Thank you for making these videos of these wonderful performers accessible to us!

Your Knox G.Stallbauer.

She’s an awesome and very complete sensitive musician, extremely intelligent, but I didn’t expect to find such wealth on dealing with the mind: 24:58 She speaks of “that dialog” and not engaging with it. 26:56 Never going into “what if.” 27:57 Mistake recovery. Cruising back to altitude. 30:00 Friendly eyes. No bashing yourself. 30:30 Honest Criticism. 38:25 Dealing with nerves through the body.

LOVE this program, so many useful tips and deep discussions, and it's oddly comforting to know that even someone of Barbara's incredibly fine artistry has had to sing a "soprano Nessun Dorma outdoors in the freezing cold in a pop star dress with Euro beats and tv screens" gig. (For which I hope she was paid megabucks.)

i do agree that performance anxiety is purely detrimental, however I do think it is possible for anyone to get rid of it entirely by initiating a duel state of intense musicality and indifference. a lot of people simply don't want to accept indifference but in reality the stronger the neutrality base the more potential for energy to be put into sound instead of the endless potential for distracting compensation devices.
