The race was won by Umberto Maglioli in a Ferrari 375 Plus. He finished the race in 17:40:26, averaging 107.93 mph. Tragically, there were two fatalities during the race, which is the primary reason it was cancelled.

Terrific coverage! By far the most complete C.P. film I've ever seen on the internet, and it's not even close. P.F., you're making a valuable addition to the publicly viewable Carrera history here - many thanks!

He seems to call it "the 1955 race" a few times, but it was November, 1954 and the last Carrera Panamericana. Seven Volkswagen "beetles" entered and all finished; in the last positions but they finished. they were happy.

Back then even Mexico had smooth roads. Today Canada and the USA have roads that more resemble lunar wasteland than paved surfaces.

WOWeeeeeeeeeeee, I'm building a 1/32 slot car circuit and have over a dozen mostly European, Panamerican Hand Made Resin Kit Car's. This is WONDERFUL reference material for me. So much better than still photo's. "I'm in Seventh Heaven" Just wish I'd discovered this earlier as I'm 76 year's old and would of loved to have much longer to enjoyed the 'fruit's of work' when the Circuit I build is finished. But THANK YOU, all the same..... BETTER LATE THAN NEVER. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

Fantastic footage ! Interesting trivia : 1954 was the 1st year that VW brought cars to Mexico, which would explain their strong presence in the race ! 😎

Very fun! The year I was born, seems so long ago. I've watched the Pink Floyd account/production many times - they competed in the race in 1991. So many similarities. In the early 60's my Pop had a Plymouth from that mid 50's era, looked pretty much like that Small Stock Dodge.

I’ve finally just watched this upload from Periscope Films… they’ve certainly got a plethora of incredible film stock that they’ve been diligently and tirelessly working around the clock it seems, in digitizing/archiving as many of them as feasible and possible! This one’s truly incredible and I came into comments to effectively say something similar to what you’ve stated, as I’ve too seen that PF production of their ‘91 race.. have it on VHS; bought that new then. Excellent coverage in PF’s production and of course, excellent music! You’re right in how so much of this fantastic ‘54 original, so reminds of that PF production. I was a bit bummed when that Buick stalled out.. but, at least them two got’er over the line, MANUALLY! Damned near killed themselves at that! I own two ‘55 Buick Super’s, both HT coupes

That was a strange race but awesome!! 1009 Miles in 5 days?? Why so long? I mean 1009 Miles in % days is a lot of time to go that far but the roads are anything but Freeways that's for sure! Danger and lots of gravel! It's a long distance rally race with cars from the 1950's

lincoln won the big car class, every year, 1950 - 1955. and the only driver to win twice, in any class. powered by the 368 cu.in. y-block. i own and drive a 1956 lincoln, but the 1956 race was canceled. my car has a mine has a 1969 grill design like the 1955 futura concept car, that later became the t.v. batmobile. my "bat-rod", has a 1969 engine a 429 cobra jet, and coil springs at all wheels and disc brakes on the front. all the floors were replaced and the trunk and rear fenders are shortened 20 ".
