That one piston needs cooling becaus when they have a turbo the heat on that part of the engine increases and make it fail easier. MWM made this fault on his engines and almost everyone had a failing last cylinder (gasket mostly) because it came more hot then the others.

I was surprised when I rebuilt my 4.248 perkins it had no piston squirters, no cam bearings, no valve guides. But cheap to rebuild, sleeve kit, valve train kit, oil pump, and gasket set only cost $850. Same failure as that one, broken ring, but ran longer so that a piece of ring beat up the piston and valves.

The only one off those old Perkins that had oil jet cooling off the pistons was the 236 turbo.IT also had an oil cooler which the other non turbo engines didn't have therefore it was a very bad idea to fit aftermarket turbos to any off these engines as many people sadly found out.Regards from Ireland.

Thanks for nice videos. How long it takes to rebuild this engine? We are gearing up for same project and i wonder how long we will be with out forklift.

Shouldn't the opening of the piston rings be just the opposite of each other

i had 2 massey ferguson farm tractors with v8 perkins engines and they had piston oilers on them i cant understand why there is only 1 on this little 4 cyl

they seem to be a well built motor but mine was dry sleeve which might not be the best idea and u know that they didnt have cam bushings in them either the cam just rode right in the block i dont know if they nitride them or harden them some how but no cam bushings, i guess those brits have a little different thinking

+3408kid Yeah Perkins loved dry liners, which are a pain to remove. On those 6.354 I actually weld a bead in a circular motion from top to bottom and they shrink up and come out alot easier.

The only possible reason for it is that 1 piston is at 90°temp when working as it sits 2" from the water pump+ thermostat housing and probably coldest on start-ups maybe) if 4 oil feeds was put in place it would probably require a bigger oil pump as pressure would drop/ bigger cost an a bit more room making it less compact for plant equipment, PS we drive on the right hand side of the car/the wright side😆 thanks for the video it can't be easy film when trying to get a job done for a costumer enjoying them :)
