On February 18th, 2021, NASA's Mars 2020 rover, better known as Perseverance, will attempt the second ever Skycrane landing on the surface of Mars inside the Jezero Crater. This video is an approximation of what that rover will see during the final two-and-a-half minutes of descent. Perseverance is the heaviest rover human's have ever attempted to land on another planet.

@C-bass Productions: If you haven't already done so, I encourage you to proactively contact NASA public relations, and let them know that they have permission to show this video during their livestream tomorrow.

What would they even do with it?
@RobinClaassen
@RobinClaassen 3 жыл бұрын
@@AndyHappyGuy They had a stream which in the couple of hours leading up to the landing focused mostly on educating members of the public who don't necessarily have a lot of science education on the basics of the rover and its mission. This video would have been a good tool to help to communicate how the landing was supposed to go.

Not only is the animation stunning but the insane design and programming of the delivery capsule, heat shield, powered flight, sky crane delivery and disconnect system it represents is overwhelmingly awesome! And it had to function autonomously because it was 24 million miles or so away from any NASA controller!!! Well done.

That actually is the correct delay (at least to the lander) for the speed of sound in the Martian atmosphere.

marvelous CGI, amazing work! I liked it very much, obviously. I catch one thing immediately at first sight, the air-flow simulation would be better to animate on sync with the thrusters during skycrane maneuver. That is a lil' bit unreal. Well done!

I wish they would have the crane land instead of crash. Those parts might be useful in the future (see Mark Watney in the Martian). It this is accurate, it looked like there was plenty of fuel to get away and land the thing.

In the future they need to find some further use of the skycrane, instead of letting it be disposable.
@sethjansson5652
@sethjansson5652 3 жыл бұрын
It serves it's purpose quite well. That being to decelerate the rover to land and to keep the rover from being damaged by debris kicked up by the boosters. A reuseable skycrane would still be inefficient since it would require a years worth of time to do anything with it. It's better off being expendable.

Part 2: And could NASA aim the SPACE-TELESCOPE and film this mission ? or were they on the opposite side of the planet? Maybe future missions could have an array of space mini cameras, all over the planet, constantly filming the event and then later be used for other missions. Good solar wings and they can be there for a while until the wings get upgraded. By number, I mean like 40 mini SATS creating a circle around mars, making a NETWORK between each mini SAT... then sending visual data but more than that. Going back to upgrading... Have all these MINI SATS have USB-like/MAGNETIC connections on board for future UPGRADES in SAT-TECH... Modular will sum it up... but I also want to explore if the SATS can each make parts/fix each other and make more units in space possibly. Or more modular items can be sent every time something ELSE is going to mars. The small parts could be like a RASPBERRY PI add-on module... a small shoebox can have 40 new parts for 40 SATS waiting... this could be OPENSOURCE and for non-NASA earthlings making items for SPACE MINI SATS. Having millions of human brains on earth deciding what is the best NEXT upgrade, HOW COOL IS THAT??! Think of the FUNDING you would get from all the AD REVENUE using this method? The Ad revenue can REALLY DO GOOD, and all the money usage is VOTED on where it goes, making everything VERY FAIR for the human interest in space/mars, the discussion platform could be made on a 'REDDIT like' website :) -The most HONEST way of gaining good information on the whole internet, in my opinion. Now, THAT would be exciting and a way to bring PEOPLE/STUDENTS to the forefront of SPACE TECHNOLOGY... THINK OF A FUTURE HEADLINE ... " a 13-year-old girl just wrote the code for new MINI SATS systems on MARS"... or "NEW Tech for MARS MINI SAT ARRAY upgrade was based on retired/self-taught man's homemade module"... and I bet there will be even better headlines like that. Anyone could have their tech out there, "that would be SUPER COOL". AND best thing yet, imagine all the cool stuff WE will learn!
