Following the series finale, POI Executive Producer Greg Plageman addresses lingering fan questions: Was the ending always planned? What's the fate of Samaritan? And what did the Team sacrifices mean?

I have thought about this extensively. What if you had an investigative reporter set perhaps 30+ years in the future who figures out that John Reese was the 'Man in the Suit' and that Finch is linked to him. Finch could tell stories of John in a flashback format regarding his life when he was with the CIA and eventually you could bring in Fusco and Shaw too tell what they learned about John. Reese is a closed book but after his supernatural encounter with Carter in the mountians I think it would be reasonable to assume that Reese started to open up about his personal life before he died, thus making his stories known to those who survived. Also this would give us an opportunity to see Snow, Stanton and Reese working as a team and not just getting betrayed by eachother. Mr. Reese (homophone for mysteries) seems like a fitting title for the spinoff to me.

altho because they've cancelled one of the best Tv shows to ever grace the small screen, I will curb my hatred of CBS for only this reason: They allowed the show's producers/writers and actors to give us fans closure...... Usually when a network decides to give the show the chop, its just done and never heard from again.... I hate that its over but at least we had an ending......and a damn good one too! Thanx POI staff - you gave us a wonderful show and we loved it! ♥

Sure, but CBS still did an injustice by cancelling the show. They didn't give proper notice to the executive producers of the show that they had decided to cancel the show, they burned off 2 episodes at a time and reduced the season to 13.

I can't believe that it has been five years... Found it by accident, loved the pilot, have been watching every episode since (most of the episodes more than once even). Perfect cast, perfect writing, perfect cinema photography, and the soundtrack. Oh, the soundtrack! Person of Interest is a masterpiece. I can be certain, if I say that You will be missed, I'm speaking on behalf of the entire fanbase. Of course we would like more, but I'm graceful for what we got, a perfect ending. Most of the shows that get cancelled, never get that. Yes, fifth season was bit rushed, but due to that action-packed fast-paced till the end. It's time to let go, Person of Interest ended strong. It's better to have 5 great seasons with a proper ending than to have 10 meh seasons. Again, thank you, Person of Interest staff, for those five seasons of awesomeness.

What I loved about it was its clear appreciation of humanity in all its flaws. It understood that there are shitty people and shitty situations and that power can corrupt, but it also emphasized the capacity we have for creation and connection. And so when The Machine tells Harold early on in the finale about having to understand people in order to predict them, it's a wonderful way for the writers to emphasize once again that machine and man cannot be completely divorced from one another. This was an intelligent series that transcended its CBS mold and became something special, and I think I can speak for all of us when I say that we'll remember it for a very long time. And the nice thing is that when at least one person remembers you, then maybe you never really die at all.

I will never forgive the writers, producers, any of them for killing John. He deserved happiness as much as any of the others. His sacrifice would have been just as sweet if he had managed to survive his suicide mission. I get that some feel like the way he went out was great..blah blah blah..well I don't. My opinion, entitled to it. I have watched this show from the beginning..I have never missed an episode. While some think that John's ending was true to form, it was, but only partly. The writers seemed to have forgotten what John was. They also forgot that they wrote it that he had overcome his suicidal thoughts which stemmed from PTSD, loss of love & family, etc. So while he would have definitely taken Finch's place on that rooftop, no way would he not have been prepared to fight for his life, while fully accepting he'd probably die. In other words, he would have had more than just a pistol against the weapons Samaritan's agents had. After all, he'd faced them many times.

If there would be any hope of a season 6. It would be that the machine is having a discourse with Herald and that she is showing him as many various possibilities of failure and why. I also feel that simplicity is more elegant than all the layers of subterfuge. There has always been a simpler solution to take out Samaritan. The fact that season 5 could all come down to either Shaw being subjected to the torturous endless simulations or Herald having his sessions with his creation. Simple and elegant way to build a platform for any further shows. I agree that John would desire to end his life to protect those he came to love as well as his mission, yet we so desire for him to not sacrifice himself for anything less. I truly felt that The Machine would have known this and perhaps attempted a simpler solution. I do hope they would continue the program, yet the ending seems to suggest there are others in the fight that could be picking up where Root and john left off. I do see this as a failure for the show, the fact that the core characters became as important to us on a wide age rage by design and as they desired. In effect they set into place the destruction of their own creation. Simple as that.

Yes, sorry, obviously it's a matter of opinion, but i can't fully express myself because of the language barrier :) . I would imagine the script for that whole call would go something like this: EXT. STREET - DAY A busy street, New York as it is always. Just a girl with no plans and her Dutch military dog with the wind to their backs. A payphone. There’s many. And many have rung in her ears in that week but none for her, that’s all right by her. Another one up ahead that is just another like that. And yet, as she passes.. The phone rings. Is it? Shaw approaches and lifts up the phone, not really hoping to hear anything. .....click..... PHONE (playful) Did you miss me? It’s Root. The Machine’s Root anyway. SHAW You found a way, I take it. ROOT Where there’s a will, there's a retro piece of tech to lend a hand. SHAW Harold and John? (pause on the phone) ROOT ...it...is over. Can’t be good if she, the machine, whatever... doesn’t want to say. SHAW W..What do I even call you? ROOT You can call me whatever you want, sweetie. SHAW You’re not Root, though. No matter the voice. ROOT (sarcastic) Ouch, Sameen! A digital symbiote still has feelings, you know. Shaw is not as amused. ROOT (CONT’D) You are right, however. There is no sufficient description. Little of this... little of that. Left brain, right brain, you know how it goes. Shaw is amused a little. ROOT (CONT’D) With coming and going in mind(s)... do you have any plans tonight? SHAW You don’t quit, do you? ROOT The fun is just starting. SHAW Fun? ROOT Somebody has to kneecap the bad guys of the world, Shaw. Can’t all be daring and elegant digital heists. Samaritan might be gone but there’s more, so much more good yet to be done. The world almost ended in more ways than anyone dares to realize. SHAW I know, I was there. ROOT Sounds just perfect for you, doesn’t it? So what do you say? Let’s spin the bottle. I’m hoping for a dare. Shaw almost says something different but doesn’t bother and just: SHAW You’re hopeless. [Music kicks in] SHAW (CONT’D) (sigh) Sign me up. She hangs up the call, and as she starts to walk away with Bear by her side, Shaw glances at the street camera nearby.... ....a reserved smile of things past and of things to be done.
