I really like the contrast of Lavenza’s battle as supposed to the twins. The reason why the twins use weaker Personas is because their power has been sealed off/split apart. Lavenza uses much more powerful Personas like her siblings does to symbolize her return to form.

I think a small but great part about Royal was getting some fights that were really made for the battle system. Maruki’s first two phases were already pretty good about it with the Baton Pass focus, but Lavenza really goes ham on it and I really like it. Especially since it has some of that difficulty backbone. It’s a fight where you’re not only expected to use all the system mechanics, but a lot of those mechanics are used against you too. If only there wasn’t the crit phase. Then this would be one of my stand-out fights in the Persona series. At least, from what I can see. I guess something that snuck up on me was the 100% Thieves Den stuff. What I expected from the achievements made me think that it wouldn’t be seen through. I guess I overestimated it though. It makes me happy to see it all done, since it gives a real sense of throughness to it all. Speaking of things that snuck up on me, the whiplash I got when I heard the signing-off bit made me double take. I seriously forgot the level of progress and it got me a little emotional. I really wasn’t prepared to say goodbye to this. And then it was a fake out. And whiplash hit me again. Well played.

I THINK I remember getting super lucky in this fight and getting it first or second try without even knowing how things fully worked (though might've used a guide). Then again I was playing on either Normal or Easy at the time, so idk. Lavenza is imo the funnest secret Persona boss to try to beat solo though imo (best to do so on Merciless though). Also, very based for using Makoto's (P3) ultimate Persona for this (despite it being the edgy version). WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT Pretty sure you can Final Guard against that Megidolaon too? I did not know about the completion reward stuff, damn. Imagine a NG+ speedrun with those 2 items, lol (would probably be a boring watch mind you). On my progress on PS Portable, I'm doing pretty well so far. Thought I messed up my Courage, but I got the rank up I needed, so we're good. I ran into multiple Reaper floors, which caused my heart to leap into my chest lol, but I was never caught by him. The chains rattling scares the shit outta me, so that def motivated me to get out of there. Kind of funny that in both Persona 3 and 4, my chosen romance route is the last party member to join, but I'm fine with that lol. It must be a fascinating feeling to pre-record all of this before the playthrough was even starting, and having to talk like you're already in the endgame.

Outside of that crit phase, this fight really does work, it tests you pretty much everything you’ve learn and is a genuine challenge. What's interesting about the text for that dialogue with Lavenza at the beginning is that it is incorrectly written in vanilla P5. What she is saying doesn't match at all to what is displayed on screen. For instance, her voice says "You are a man without compare in this world," but the in-game text instead reads "You are truly the world's greatest man."

So Lavenza's theme of Personas tends to be leaning towards beasts and brutish warriors. ...Not as funny as Margaret having all pretty boys.

Now meet the hellish boss of P5R and I’m going to discuss it! Before so though. Phases 1 though three have a major resistance to Almighty. Phase 4 doesn’t have that major resistance, if Lavenza does have one it’s minor Phase one, best party members to use are Ann Morgana, Ryuji or Yusuke. This phase if you don’t just rely on crits requires you to do a Noah. Hit the ‘weakness’ Fire means ice, ice means fire, wind means elec, and elec means wind. A Pagan Allure, Magic Ability, Tyrants Mind single target severe using Persona helps. Lose here by exceeding nine turns, Lavenza has different dialogue depending on what phase your defeated. Phase 2, best party members are, pretty much anyone not named Akechi. Akechi really isn’t helpful here. Yusuke and Ryuji are my go tos. Just ailment and hit. But make sure to switch to Sumire with at least one person and get Brave Step in before phase end. Fail to hit a technical and Lavenza insta kills you and also gives you failure quote 2. Though rumours were if you exceeded nine turns she also instakills you but never seen it. Phase 3: best party members, Morgana, Haru and Sumire. This phase is BS and absolutely ruins this fight. Swallow your pride and use Yoshitsune to be done with this phase fast. Take note inspiring game devs. Don’t make a boss fight that relies on luck. It’s stupid, unfair and just pisses off people, and also makes them feel like nothing is in your control, I hope you like hearing ‘it seems Lady Luck wasn’t on your side’ a lot from Lavenza cause you WILL hear it a lot. Worse is that the other three phases are so well done that if this phase was removed I don’t think I would care. Phase 4, best party member, anyone. This Phase is nuking Lavenza phase. Her almighty resistance is gone or isn’t as bad so you can use that if you wish. Or you can do any element. Once Lucifer comes though and your no where near close to ending the fight, well. Either you will die to Lucifer. Or you will die to the turn limit. Cause I’m sure there is also an insta kill turn limit here but it is absurd. Either that or I saw a hack of this fight long ago, and saw Lucifer not kill Joker thanks to Enduring Soul and then saw Lavenza a few turns later AOAing. Again if you exceed turn limit if there is one like I am remembering or imaging, or if knocked down unique line of dialogue. And what’s your reward? The Omnipotent Orb. Yeah. Bragging rights reward. So let’s go on to talk about why. Thanks to how this fight is. Why I argue it’s worse than Elizabeth’s in a gameplay standard. Well at least with Elizabeth’s you can survive and get through it without hassle, it’s just a bit of trial and error. It’s still not great when you literally have to count when a Megidoloan is coming to use Infinity or when to use Armmegedon. But hey at least there is skill. Lavenza’s third phase decides that oh yeah. I hope you have luck. You can have the most optimal set up. AND STILL NOT CRIT. When your gimmick amounts to. ‘Hope to get lucky if not your dead’ that isn’t good game design. It’s stupid. It is awful! And what’s worse. I’m not even objecting to a boss that you could manipulate luck with. Like I think it would be kind of cool if for that phase if you set up everything perfectly. At least Sword Dance could 100% crit. But no. That isn’t what happened. It’s awful and I hope Atlus doesn’t use this phase of the Lavenza fight EVER AGAIN. It is already bad enough they made the DDS Demi-Fiend fight an absolute nightmare and near luck based but at least there I feel like I have control to an extent. I do heavily apologise to anyone having to read my absolutely rage filled tangent. But considering how many hours and days I lost to that phase alone. I felt I needed to just rant. To some up the bonus boss fights. Margaret is the most fair and fun, Elizabeth is tough but feels like there is control, the twins are sadly not that bad to deal with, Lavenza is three fourths okay but with a maddening third phase. And yet I say all of the, aren’t as good as P2’s fight against Philemon, then again Considering he shares some moves with the P2s Final bosses but with much more restraint and fairness and fights multiple Wildcard users. Yeah I think it is a bit unfair to compare the attendants to their boss’ boss. Now then. Who is excited for when Klingy does Strikers? Cause I am and I have really weird trivia for it. Those two will be fun final challenges. In other news, I did it. Miraculously got the Duel Pass up to 100 in time before it closes tonight. As for how I faired against the flood of Tearlaments... Despite Tear being ludicrous and probably going to make MD "Tear 0" for the next few months, I somehow have like a 50-50 win to lose rate against them, much better than the rates I currently have against other obnoxious meta decks/annoying decks to face in a best of one format. Going to attribute this a lot due to possibly a lot of players learning to play Tears and also due to me more or less having the just barely salvageable opening hand needed to beat them with my Crusadias (At least a Kaiju, Arboria, a chain blocker like Magius or the Dragon Dog, one to two removal and/or back row removal spells/one removal plus call by, and one luck whatever card to help the Strat, preferably the one off field spell in case the Link 2 gets negated), which is VERY lucky, especially when I feel like my being turns consistent decks into brick fests. But yeah, survived Tears enough to get all of the Duel pass rewards, so now I can hunker down and just play events where they and other problematic decks can be held back for a bit.

I Lavenza wasn't a child I'd even support this buuuuuut DEFINITELY NO. You can be prepare as much as possible for Lavenza yet you still need to be in some of Fortunas Favor to beat it. Most of the time I fight, I got stuck in the "mandatory knockdown" phase. If it was just a fight of attrition I would win but since she can party wipe despite being full and defended, it tends to break my neck. I tend to stock up on healing, vials and debuff/dispel items during the game since EVERY party member can use them so if a little bit of bad luck almost ruins you, there is still a chance to recover. It still is unfair to make the third phase luck depended if you have no way to at least get a single crit per turn guaranteed by some means Although, I never tried downshot, wonder if it would work. At least the crit phase is rather short, if it goes your way.

One of my favourite super boss battles of all times. Very challenging fight 8:54 Solo Lavenza relies on a Freeze gun technical into Dream needle crit and sleep inflict which leads to skipping both the technical and the crit phase with Izanagi no okami. Without DLC this fight requires multiple of such rngs I think Kohryu is better off using an Almighty technical damage instead of Psiodyne but since you were avoiding network fusion skills i guess that works too 28:50 Oh my god i realised you dont have final guard 34:36 Reflect is actually a very useful strat you can do in the final phase with something like Fafnir repelling everything or with Kaguya's trait on the DLC side 43:14 For some reason they nerfed the Omnipotent orb to only null magic attacks in this game its weird

So hopefully the affection that Lavenza has for Joker isn’t reciprocated by him, considering that while we are never told how exactly the Velvet Room attendants age, for all we know Elizabeth actually is as old as the character she’s named after has existed, but the fact that Lavenza looks very young and the two aspects of her we spent most of the game interacting act quite childish makes the idea icky. It’s part of why I have no issue with localised versions of games removing romance implications with very young characters or fanservicey outfits, like Engage and the idea of deciding that they will get married later with Alear despite Anna in that game if her internally listed age is correct she would be 11. Also after seeing this again, something interesting is that looking at all the Fenale Confidants how many have a crush on Joker established with out initiating a relationship with them, I thinks it’s only Sumire, Lavenza and Haru of how she takes rejection is any implication. And talking about the idea of the female cast having crushes on the main protagonist when I played Tokyo Mirage Sessions for the first time I admittedly got quite annoyed when it turns out every female party member has a crush on Itsuki, the funny thing is that’s in this case you have more cases of canon crushes than Joker does, Joker had 2 and arguably a 3rd, Itsuki has Tsubasa, Kiria, Eleonora and Mamori and while Itsuki isn’t that interesting or developed as a character compared to most of the cast, even if they aren’t the most interesting he is still a fully fledged character rather than a self insert the same way Joker and there’s no romance system with anyone but Tsukasa I believe. So the actual fight with Lavenzq. It is interesting considering that you have to vary what elements you use and how the various phases have you use different strategies, although I am somewhat mixed on the idea of the first few phases having instant death conditions. While it does provide different strategic opportunities that I like and in a way it’s even more free flowing than dealing with Okumura’s last set of robots, I’ve found that I’ve needed PSy and Curse, Concentrate and Dekaja to get through that specifically, for the Ailments phase you can choose any technical route you want, and as you said the Critical phase is Luck based. With a very large penalty. So I actually kind of prefer the last phase, while admittedly it’s gimmick is dangerous in its own right since if you don’t take an action to atatck her it can leave anyone she hits in danger of going down to her later onslaught, but you actually have a large degree of freedom while still having to stargaze around the fact that anything that isn’t offensive in nature will make you take a hit from her. So I wonder if there is any theme to the Personas that Lavenza uses, while Elizabeth didn’t really have a theme everyone after did, Margaret has well Bishonen Personas as the best way I can describe it and in Persona 3 Portable it’s groups of related Personas apart from Jack Frost, Alice and Metatron whom are amongst the last ones she uses, but otherwise it’s the Four Heavenly Kings, The Mitamas, Personas added into Potable in the case of Mokoi and Neko Shogun and finally the Moirae Sisters. And Lavenzq’s individual components Caroline and Justine use mostly low levelled Personas and ones that tend to be small and cute. So by comparison Lavenza Personas feel like they where chosen at random. So what I’m saying next ends up quite tangential, albeit the reason I thought of it relates to this game, I just got the free DLC and played around with an New Game + File that ended at the end of Sae’s Palace infiltration. Which included the Featherman outfits, as a Toku Fan albeit I don’t tend to keep up as much as I used to seeing Ranger inspired outfits and using them is something I find quite cool. And since these outfits use neither any of the birds used for the original Featherman, nor the ones you see in Persona 4 Golden/Dancing All Night or Persona 3 Dancing in Moonlight you end up with some Bird that are either somewhat obscure or you wouldn’t expect to be used in a bird themed action series, what exactly is a Dooka and why specifically a Rockhopper Penguin rather than just a Penguin. Which made me think about the nature of Featherman and how since it’s a bird themed series it holds itself to the premise of every hero in the series having one as a motif , which means that it’s somewhat finite in terms of what you can use for theming, especially if you considering either cool or commonly known birds, your going to run out of them originally if you want to use original motifs. And too spread out from that, both as in Ranger series themselves and other media, it’s part of why Sentai although there some themes they’ve used multi times like Dinosaurs or Animals there is a fair amount of overlap because they don’t hold themselves to exact motifs every series and in sone cases where multiple themes can lead to the same result they will repeat the exact motif, the 31st, 32nd and 33rd Sentai did have Lion and Tiger themed mechs, since each series had some kind of animal theming for their mech even if animals are onky the main theme of the first of these. And I also thought that the idea of running out of original themes to use without repeats also applies to really any gacha game that’s based on another series or other games outside of itself that continues on, your going to end up with using more obscure or less popular characters after a while. Which Heroes has somewhat in terms of New Heroes Banners, you could argue that there isn’t any popuaor charactes lefts to add to the game in general, albeit you have cases where a fair amount of Three Houses characters like Felix, Sylvain and Dorothea (Whose had three versions so far) only have seasonal variants. And the fact that the game has gone on for 6 years and introduces quite a few playable characters every New Heroes Banner, at least 3 in most cases and up to 4-5 a lot of games have very few characters or even popular characters left. And that does lead me to somewhat of a controversial take, I have seen people complain about the amount of characters from certain games like Thracia or the Tellius games, which tend to be amongst the least represented. And while I will say that people have their preferences I don’t feel it’s wise for IS to especially give Thracia a lot of focus considering how obscure a lot of its characters are, hence while it has semi consistently gotten banners it’s also something that I don’t feel it’s worth to put an more focus on compared to a Genealogy which has more popular and well known charcuterie. considering half of what your doing with a gacha is selling the individual characters, even someone like me who cares about gameplay just as much as the character a Hero is based being a character I like would make me specifically want them more like the recent Legendary Yuri.

This battle is not hard like some say if your prepared for it although its hard on your first NG+ run to beat her but is doable, you cant brute strength your way through this fight and you must know what personas they are using for there weakness drain rpl etc, its jsut with the right setup its not that hard, but you do need pretty high lvl personas with stats to be able to damage her effectively. Single top tier spells will do more on her and having joker concentrated easily can do around 1500-2000 Hp damage. In phase 2 use brainwashed or a status aliment that last extra like brainwashed or rage because if you read know thy heart book which is the final book at the book place after ready the rest of them bless works against brainwashed so surime is good here for the tech damage. Technically she does not null everything bless works on lucifer since its weak to it.

Not that I like to start negatively. But any boss that has a “you gotta be at least a little lucky or you lose” phase is automatically not a good boss (in my eyes)

i would really really like the lavenza fight... if not for crit phase. screw crit phase. the fact that there is 0 way to garuntee a crit makes this phase suck so much and drags the fight down.

Honestly, if I battled Lavenza, I would battle her alone. You should try that too in order to see how long you'll last.
