@@TrueXTrickster Hi, I have played persona series for a long time and I can tell you how this happens. The base amount of damage is fixed and it is purely random that it will be scaled by a number from 0.95x to 1.05x. (There are exactly 11 outcomes, 0.95x, 0.96x, 0.97x, ..., 1.04x, and 1.05x.)

The base damage max is 99,999 and it cannot be surpass more than 100,000 but it can be surpass with multiplier between 1.05 the higher and 0.95 the lower random scaled damage. If u try few times maybe it outcome like 98,999(0.99x) or 100,998(1.01x) then it solve all the question about it.

@@TrueXTrickster Difficulty level has anything to do with the damage output. In Merciless, the damage output x3 the the output in Normal difficulty, hence why the Critical tends to go higher than in Normal (and can act as double edge sword if you fucked up your strats). The reason why you got different damage output range in that numbers you stated is due to the fact some demons has different stats and passive skills that make up those different average damage output. What Xcoxupx mentioned is correct. You have the difficulty mode Critical hits multiplier + the numbers of multiplier of the skill you use (miniscule to colossal output) + your distributed stats + your passive skills increments + your traits damage output multiplier + buff increments (can stack) + debuff counts on your foe + baton pass level increments = your clean damage output - (foe's stats + weakness + passive skills multiplier + traits damage multiplier/subtraction if any) = your final damage output. Instead of just Pyro Jacks, how about beating Oni or Kali as comparison. Mind that each physical, magic and almighty has their own damage output range.

@@colorman9323 nobody said that because the multiplier is times 3 in merciless that it would do 3 times less damage than in merciless. The crit/weakness/technical modifier is just lower during lower difficulties but not straight up 1 because those should do bonus damage and there wouldn't be a point in having those mechanics otherwise. You also must know that your overall damage gets nerfed when playing at higher difficulties, so there would be another factor why the number isn't that much lower. It just happens to be the case that factoring your boosted bonus damage in you can do more damage in merciless than in lower difficulties in spite of having a lower damage multiplier overall. This would only apply to enemies which can be at least critted, have their weakness exploited or can recieve technicals, so you would theoretically be better off at lower difficulty levels when fighting bosses if you care about having the highest damage numbers. EDIT: gramnatical corrections

But this knowledge may be irrelevant because he could have gotten to the damage cap in both cases and that's just due to damage fluctuation which is a thing in Persona

I believe you also had to have a certain thing to break the damage limit of 9999, which most people I've seen don't feel like they need to utilize.

I don't think it could seeing that sae has 65,536 hp (2^16) and I'm pretty sure the remaining bosses have more than 39462 hp combined, it'd be pretty close I assume tho.

I recall reading somewhere else that they don't actually run out of SP, the game just says that under certain conditions, and if you try to drain it all manually they'll never run out.

Well, one boss in the game straight up has more health than that (Sae, at 65535). iirc she has that much health because you're not supposed to kill her during that phase, but rather you're supposed to catch her cheating so that the second phase of the boss starts.
