A.T. is only hands-on. There is no way to truly explain it in a traditional sense. Via touch is the only way that the information is passed from teacher to student. Sign up for a group lesson with a few others for a taste, and you will certainly 'feel' the difference. I've tried lots of garbage, but A.T. is no bilk.

Where in the world are you located? Because study in person is the best way - classes are the most fun and productive.

The Alexander technique aims to teach people how to stand, hold themselves and move differently in order to eliminate unnecessary tension in their bodies. 30 seconds on Wikipedia was more helpful.

he didn't really explain the correct way to sit at a computer, or did i miss it?
@learnpoise

"Correct" is dependent on your own perception of what the definition of "correct" is. So he deliberately avoided giving viewers the wrong impression that they do know what "correct" is. Turns out that tolerating and even enjoying uncertainty is a big feature of continuing learning.

I really want to learn something about the Alexander Technique but got no concrete information from this. Why not? He could have used the sitting example describle in detail what's going on but provides no real details. Speaking as if this is something mystical is no help. His introduction basically states this is to esoteric to talk details. What a boon for this dude to bring the Alexander Technque into the corporate world. Who remembers the corprate training bilkers from the 90s?

Each example is unique to that particular person. So he tries to go from the specific to a more abstract generalization of a principle. Since the viewers are unlikely to see what is going on - it's tricky to get a value. It's like learning chicken sexing and plane spotting. All of a sudden you can "do it" because the teacher has their hands on you, but you don't know how it happened. Much of AT. is quieting the intensity of "trying too hard" and learning to sense what is going on "underneath the radar" of what you think "should" count as a factor. So that is why this is so boring.

Why is he reading notes if he has been teaching this method for over 3 decades? I've watched 10 minutes so far and still don't understand what the Alexander Method IS.

Start at 15 min mark and beyond. Alexander Technique uses changing the way you move as the forum to witness and change your reactions and responses. Because motion can be factually improved, it gives evidence of what's happening when you experiment the teacher can see. A.T. teachers are fantastic observers! He's reading notes because he has mostly taught one-on-one, directly through hands-on touch without putting much of what he wants to teach into words. He's not used to addressing a group of people who are all beginners by talking to them. He's also the co-teacher of an A.T. 3-year trainee course, where his more advanced students are learning to be teachers, where he can skip over all the many fundamentals that beginners find tricky to both learn and use together. Imagine teaching the "lingo" of a specialization, so your listeners can string all those special words together, without ever having to do so previously. Alexander Technique has always been sold through its mystery.

Clearly you have not experienced an alexander lesson or class. The technique is not something you do. It is a re-learning of your movements to understand your habits and even break free from your habits.

Obvious to you, with no experience of hands-on from a qualified teacher...don't you think that dismissal is a bit premature?
