It’s so important to be able to explain this answer well to children who haven’t gotten out of their hometown or don’t understand why we don’t label or demand labels from other people! It’s the line between encouraging curiosity and checking rudeness and both are necessary in building a global society. Thank you for taking the time to help the kids, bumpkins, and medicated stay involved.

I do believe that age and maturity increases the odds of finding someone special. Often younger people are still discovering who they are and experimenting with many relationships. I met my fiancée on a gay web site. Instead of seeing vulgar pictures of one’s anatomy, Bruce had pictures of his gardens. I fell in love with him and 8 years later we are still together.

Your gift is that you make your audience feel at home as you invite us into your world and that would resonate regardless of the accent you possess! I worked retail at Tiffany & Co. and I spent four years working with some of the best professionals, however, it did ugly within "the little blue box". From the day after Thanksgiving to December 24 it was 6 days a week, 7:00AM to 10:00PM, quotas tripled as sales personnel started to snip at each other and poach customers. Lines of customers waiting to be serviced were three to four deep and they were not always kind to one another or us, and Christmas Eve was the worst because I knew more than half of the impulse buys that many of "last minute" shoppers purchased were coming back the day after Christmas and we had to turn that return into another sales opportunity. With that said, those few days really tested one to exercise "grace under pressure" and what I learned handling those experiences I called upon many times in my career!

As a librarian from Boston, Massachusetts in the USA I needed to adopt a neutral accent. We dropped our letter r in the old days, as an example. It can wreak havoc in trying to answer reference questions via phone. Oh, one more problem would be turning one syllable words into 2 syllables, I.e. hair becomes hay-ah. 😀

@@equatorialjourney4478 A change in accent doesnt mean one is not being authentic. Language and accents change if you leave where you are and you mingle with others. My native lanaguage isnt English, and even in my native tongue this happens. Also happens with several other languages im exposed to and familiar with. The accents of expats with my native tongue in my country change when they live here for a bit. People from their home countries always tell that they have lived abroad for a while. They do not do this to impress anyone, they need to do they can be understood and intrgrate into the place. In general language and accents change with time. Your great grandparents would possibly not understand you if you spoke today, even if its the same language. Dont confuse adaptation and change with being inauthentic. It is a natural process. Leaving your environment for over a decade and not changing is what is not natural.

@@Enne- Accent “authenticity” aside, I would say Nicolas doesn’t necessarily owe us any level of authenticity. He’s creating content for consumption and doing a pretty good job of it organically. I’ve been watching since about six months into his channel and while content is a bit all over the place as he finds his stride he’s actually been fairly forthcoming with his and/or his characters background. Which you can’t say about a lot of big KZfaqrs who are fake fake fake but get zillions of views and follows. Like sure his accent is very affected (and the living in Dubai and Scotland thing doesn’t make you sound like you’re imitating the queen so I take that with a grain of salt though I know we all have differing opinions) but he’s living a nice life from sharing himself online and he’s not hurting anyone doing so or grifting and that’s becoming rarer in todays world.

I like your accent. I don't think we Americans are as concerned with "origin stories" and keeping people in their place. Most Americans are constantly reinventing themselves, no questions asked. As long as you are honest about your background, and you always are, whose business is it? I grew up in a working class New York family and though neither of my parents had a "New York" accent, some of my family developed it. I made a conscious effort to adapt a softer, mid-Atlantic accent and I've stuck to that. No one ever questions it.

People would mock our accent with sayings such as “Pahk the caah in Haahvad yahd” (instead of Park the car in Harvard yard). So, when I became 18 I also began to make an effort to improve my pronunciation for businesses opportunities and to just be better understood. The USA a is a huge country, with literally hundreds of accents, including many from NYC alone. Brooklyn, Bronx, Manhattan. All different accents. But, if you are going into a career involving speaking publicly, a certain accent is definitely more salable. People work hard at changing certain accents simply because it will get them further in their careers. This is commonplace and should not matter to anyone. Hopefully, we all end up sounding the way we want. Nicholas you sound just fine, articulate and easy to listen to. End of story.

“Why don’t you want to date?” That was hilarious. Seriously. Relationship is much better than one night stand. I also find that you are so sweet saying you don’t revel in people’s misery. Even if they are celebs and their lives are often widely exposed, they still deserve respect and privacy. I’m glad you are not laughing and entertained by their lives.

I moved to France from California at age 36. Kids, life, hubs .. went back every year (5-6 weeks) with kids so they could know their large family (10 cousins!) and speak more English. Then in August 2020, daughter 27, and son-in-law moved from France to Atlanta nearby one of her Aunts. I've always encouraged my children to travel and even expect them to move away. I know they love me and nowadays there's WhatsApp and other social media. And planes ... Traveling is so educational and opens the eyes & the soul and sometimes the heart. So not good when family/friends make one feel inadequate or guilty for moving away. Alysen

I love your accent. I also love the fact that you made an effort to be better understood . The fact that you care whether people can understand you is a lovely personality trait to have. Too many people just think they talk the way they talk and then get upset when others struggle to understand them, which is just plain stupid.

Thank you. I enjoyed your explanations. I enjoyed a friendship of 40 years with a man who could often finish my sentences as I could his! We also seemed to have unspoken ways of communicating our desires to leave events or stay etc. He passed 5 years ago. You made me remember that the key was Friendship First. Best of luck with all your desires. A subscriber in Florida.

This is exactly how my pronunciation developed. As a teenager I left my native speaking area and adapted over the years. In order to have a good pronunciation in English, I took the Queen as my language teacher and listened to her speeches and learned the perfect pronunciation. I always get compliments these days. So the Queen was a good teacher. Your pronunciation is just as clear and probably accent-free. If I come to the home of my childhood there is a relapse 😄

Dearest Nicolas. I'm so glad I watched this. I usually skip Q&As, but I decided not to skip this one. I learned some wonderful things about you and what I suspected is that you attempt a _balanced_ approach to life and that may be why you exude confidence and happiness. At 32 years young, that's a wonderful place to be. You have many decades of fulfillment ahead. I hope I can witness more of it. I'm more than double your age, but see that your life skills are way ahead of mine at your age even now.

What a genuine, nice guy you are. I'm from the USA, so I just thought you had simply cultivated your speech to be fancy and refined! My grandmother was always big on enunciating and speaking carefully, neither of which I do to this day; but I appreciate the effort. It's nice to see someone living intentionally; that takes a lot of courage. Keep up the good work!

This is such a great video Nicolas! Partly because it's interesting to hear your take on yourself and what you're about, but also as I'm a gay son who moved away to search for adventures elsewhere despite loving my family very much. I can also relate to your accent changes. I had (and often still have!) a fairly strong Manchester accent, but I live in Barcelona and don't have any Manc friends here, so I've had no choice but to soften my accent. It's true what you say, it just happens! Great Q&A and good luck with the romantic side of things. I can certainly relate to that too! 😀

I love your accent-don’t give it another thought. It’s very charming and lovely to listen too! Being accommodating and not confrontational is so much easier and kinder to yourself as well as others. I am that way myself-not so much a people pleaser, but one who chooses to let things pass-harboring ill feelings hurts you more than the person causing the problem. Continue being you! 🥰😊
