Hi, thanks for the shoutout! I agree the Companion is a great first SAK too. The reason it did not cross my mind is because it is not readily available in this part of the world! I will get one when it is. I did not know if came with plus scales. Thanks for sharing!

The hook is great for pulling out oven racks and grabbing cook pot with wire handles or cast iron Dutch kettles. The hook can support your whole body weight as well and so very strong implement. You can also store small items underneath it

100% agreed that the Companion is the #1 choice for the first SAK in an urban setting - but as long as it is only available as a special edition, it is simply too expensive to recommend. I hope they release a regular version soon.

Me, too! I want a yellow plus scale version, and a dark green. It would be cool if they released it on all the colors in addition to red! I think $60 would be a good price. What do you think?
@simon.voggeneder

@@thevineclimber$60 is maybe a bit steep. I would like to see it priced maybe a bit above the Compact. Sadly there seem to be no customization options for plus scaled models, even though they exist as an aftermarket option. I would love them to add this option. Yellow would be my favourite as well, maybe with black accents (toothpick and tweezers).

That is a nice one. I’d like to see the Companion in solid colors. Opening toys is important. My granddaughters bring all of the toy strap, tape, etc. to me, knowing grandpa always has a knife. This or my Juice S2 would be useful, but I’ll always consider the Spyderco Delica to be the Great Barbie Emancipator.

Happy Monday Anne - A month ago I finally made the plunge and bought the Swiss Spirit Limited Edition 2023 Companion - it is the first ever wooden scaled SAK I have ever bought & the reason I purchased it is because it was in a clearance sale at a 40% discount at my local Victorinox seller and was the last one in stock. It has validated my reason why I dislike Victorinox wooden handled knives - the walnut wood handles are rough & uncomfortable to grip & I am sure that if I was to use it (I'm not going to) it would absorb perspiration, water & oils and become discolored. I do however like the tools (with one criticism) and last week ordered the 91mm New York Companion when it was put into a sale at a 20% discount albeit even at 20% off it is still double the price of regular 91mm Climber. I received my NY Companion today & it is the newest addition to my EDC rotation. Considering the high price of the Companion I feel that Victorinox should have included a mini-screwdriver & pin with it as is standard with the likewise overpriced Compact. I have added both to mine as well as replaced the large key ring with a small key ring (my personal preference on most of my 84/85/91 & 93 mm SAK's for EDC). IMO the neck cord & charm are totally superfluous even for a lady, I doubt if many ladies will carry a weighty knife around their neck. The one criticism of the tools is that Victorinox once again has put the filing side of the nail file facing inwards against the blade unlike the Wenger style of the filing side facing outwards to the scales on the remaining 85mm Delmont models like the EvoGrip 14 & 17 (and the Wenger nail file remains the IMO far superior Diamond Dust type) I might even buy a 2nd NY Companion & swap the scales with the Rubi Red translucent Plus scales I have on an unused new in box Explorer. ATB Steve in Tel Aviv.

Steve, I have been so curious to hear what your thoughts about this tool are. I know that others have wondered, as well. Thank you so much for sharing them here! I am quite jealous of the Victorinox retailer that you have near you. I have literally never seen a Victorinox store! I agree that the nail file should have the file facing the other direction. I can't understand for the life of me why they think this is a better way to do it. I'm so glad that you like the tool set. I have tried carrying it around my neck and it doesn't work very well plus this lanyard is possible dangerous to use in that manner. I do think that carrying it on a purse with that lanyard works extremely well, and looks stylish, too. If you do change out the scales, you will be the first person I have heard of who has done this. Maybe you would be the first person in the world to have one with regular scales. That's pretty cool. My hope is that they come out with all of the plus scale colors for this knife. I think that this knife is the standard of the future, and we need to get the price down and get people more color options that they are comfortable with. I'm very curious if you know of any way this would make a good bladeless Swiss army knife. With the package opener, it is ideal for places where you can't have a full size Swiss army knife.

@@thevineclimberAnne my local Victorinox dealer charges high prices most of the time & uses flash sales, spring sales, summer sales, winter sales, & year end clearance sales to get customers to buy more products and get rid of lines that don't sell well. I have not yet used the new package cutter tool but I am pleased that they got rid of the useless can opener - I wish they will update a few existing models with this tool as in the past Victorinox made changes to tool line ups on a number of models. I wrote on a previous video of yours my suggestion on how to make a bladeless SAK by taking a model that you like the tools on & go to a hardware store and get them to cut off & grind down the blades almost as far as the tang stamp and have them grind the remaining stump into either a spatula or a watch maker tool shape - neither have cutting edges. If & when I decide on buying a 2nd Companion (the sale is on for this particular model to March 16th) I will then swap the scales on the unused Explorer & that I put the Rubi Red Plus scales on last year but then put it back in its box (It is one that I bought when it was on sale at a discount of 25% and I have 2 other Explorers in my EDC rotation already)

I have to agree whole heartedly! I have always carried the Executive and I still love it but now Victorinox has discontinued it. Though I still have a couple of Executives I have been carrying the Companion now and I find I really enjoy the feel of it as I use it. It has a little more heft and a better fit in the hand. I do use a deep carry clip that keeps it out of the bottom of my pocket, as I did with the Executive, because of the ready availability. If I didn't do that this might be a bit heavy. As for the much abused parcel hook, it can pull boot laces tight more comfortably than fingers. You can also slip the pen into the slot and close the hook on it for a better writing experience. And for those who need it, as I occasionally do, a T shank jigsaw blade can fit under the hook. The hook will hold it very well. It's a very functional saw once you put it all together. Thanks for the great reviews and commentaries!

That is an excellent job of upselling the new Vic Companion! I'm still not sold on the package tool, as I use the can opener regularly in the kitchen. Great video and whilst the toolset on the companion looks good. The price is definitely not. So sorry to disagree on this. For a first SAK there are loads in the £20-40 fort instance. This is a another great topic. I watched the video by the @turbanknifeguy as well. There were really great comments and one I think you might agree with... A number of commenters mentioned the Swiss Champ as a first SAK. I scoffed until one explained that it makes a great first SAK because it allows the user a great opportunity to try just about every tool to decide what would be the most useful tool combination for a much smaller pocket carry. Of course, his recommendation is made with the assumption that you can't have just one SAK, and he is certainly correct. 🙂 I love my Evolution 23 as my everyday carry, but had to go through a lot of different SAK's to figure out what really works for me. The magnifying glass and length ended up being the deciding factor, as I am an older petite female. Now I can actually read my healthcare card that I am using more and more unfortunately, and it fits vertically to the side within my smaller pockets allowing me to slip other things in there, like my keys. Thanks, BTW for your video on the E-23, as it had been on my wish list for quite some time. And the last addition to complete my SAK collection...the Swiss Champ! LOL

I haven't heard from him in a while, but he has been foundational to this channel. The Evolution 23 is a great knife.
