I'm a groomer of 4 years and currently in cosmetology school to learn to groom humans lol. I love the colorful dyes for dogs and they aren't harmful at all because they're just plant based dyes that stain the hair. The only problem i could foresee with it is if it gets in the eyes/mouth or if the dog is stressed and being forced into it unnecessary purely for cosmetics, but this doggo was very happy and relaxed :)

Yeah, we had rescued a Pomerian Husky cross and she had 10 months of no brushing and grooming and was completely matted so she had to be shaved and her coat is so different now.

People scream at husky owners for allowing them to stay outside in the snow, but also for not shaving them in the summer 🤷🏼‍♀️

THANK YOU FOR TALKING ABOUT NOT SHAVING DOUBLE COATED DOGS!! It makes me want to cry when I see shaved huskies, if your dog gets hot regularly in the summer, get them inside in AC or get them some fun ice bath time! I've never had a problem with my husky getting too hot, I CRANK that AC for him!

UGH this reminds me when i was picking up my genet a few years ago from the breeder. He was amazing breeder but i couldn’t stand his wife. She goes,” You can dye her fur with Arctic fox hair dye if you want!” her husband ( the breeder) goes,”no you can’t! Don’t listen to her!” Still to this day i’m wondering if that woman was joking.

I’m glad you mentioned counterfeit products on Amazon! I bought flea drops from there. A reputable brand and it made everything worse. My dog became twice as itchy. Literally couldn’t sleep at night from itching and pacing and he would even moan every now and then. We bought drops from the pet store, same brand and they worked so we no longer buy treatments off of Amazon for our dog.

The only time I was ever advised to shave any double coated breed was when she got pneumonia and had a fever. We were trying to save her life, and the vet recommended shaving. Ultimately, she recovered from the fever, but passed anyway (although she was 20, so it's not like it was entirely unexpected).

12:00 Can confirm, basically any stain stays in a double coat. We're not sure what our little white husky did to get it, but she now has a bright pink patch of fluff under her chest that hasn't gone away for about two months (though it has faded significantly). Working theory is that she had a long snooze on one of her blueberry icy treats.

There is this groomer who has to regularly shave double coated dogs because their owners don't either bring them in enough to save their coat or the undercoat gets too matted. She wants to save the coat but when the bathing system can't even remove the undercoat due to it being so matted that's the only thing SHE can do.

Omg the second one reminded me about that one time my dad tried to shave our dog because she dumped herself into cement when he was building my room and the petshop rejected her when we tried to convince them it wasn't that bad. She was an alaskan malamute, she ended up looking like a poodle after a bath (the hair grew back normal so it was all good) Edit: we did take her to the vet, but they said we should shave her and chill, because the cement didn't get to her skin

The owners child probably tried to shave the dog in the second video. Or they had to shave due to a fur issue like heavy matting

Groomer here 🖐🏼 accurate info 👌🏼 thanks for bringing attention to double coated dog hair care. Also dogs have 2 major shedding times when they grow in their summer coat and when they grow in their winter coat. So it is very important to keep your dog brushed to prevent any undercoat matting. 😊

I have a bichon frise I have been grooming her myself for the past 7 years. she is so good usually I just put on a movie grab her some treats give her a massage and groom her, I find it so relaxing and I think she does too!! she's know really good being touched and is really chill with kids who aren't always very gentle.

With the purple hair diy, I would suggest trying to dye the hair with blueberries. It’s not going to be as bright of a color but blueberries are usually good for dogs (unless they have allergies of course), it’s all natural, and cheap.

Me, a creative dog groomer, prepared to be mad - SO GLAD I gave the video a chance! Your input on double coated breeds is on point! I can't even tell you how many dog owners i try to talk out of shaving their huskies and pomeranians! Post shave alopecia is so disheartening , it's ugly and the dog never is able to regulate their temperature QUITE the same again. It's also important to remember IF you decide to color your dog, it's a good idea to get it done by a professional. Make sure your dog is COMFORTABLE with grooming as a whole first. I personally will not do color work on any dog who dislikes grooming. Creative color is only for dogs who are comfortable on the table! My Poodle, My Rough Coated Collie, and I appreciate this video

Once I had a Collie and when he shed his fur I brushed him and put it in the bushes for the birds to use for their nesting. 😊

And I've used semi-permanent colors on my doggie 🐶 and depending on where you live, a dog grooming supplier WILL NOT SELL this product to your everyday consumer. You HAVE TO HAVE LOTS OF EXPERIENCE, BE A STUDENT (With permission or proof of your studies) OR HAVE YOUR OWN DOG BUSINESS THAT'S BEEN APPROVED BY THE GOVERNMENT. At least that's the guidelines for hair dye in my country!

that Grooing disaster reminds me of my shiz zhus. they have skin disorder and they have hair falls really really badly ti ll the head and the tail looks like that. i face palm when i say that and their fur matted very easily. sometimes gotta snip it off.

My mom was a dog groomer in the past and we used to always have at least one white schnauzer. (Most of which were rescued or rehomed to us.) Every Easter she'd dye one of them a pale pink or blue and watch as my younger family members would get so excited over a pink dog or wonder "How we made her change colors." It makes me sad dyeing is so looked down upon now, but I'm glad you talked about it in a fair, respectable matter. Just adding on in case anyone is wondering! It's not just double coated spitz types that shouldn't be shaved, this also applies to dogs like Golden Retrievers and Australian Shepherds!

If I had a white dog I would probably only dye the tail, just for a pop of colour. I have a Pomeranian, a double coated breed, who was shaved at 6 months old, I was super busy and couldn't care for his coat properly, nor did I understand that it could ruin his coat. I plan to never shave him again, unless it is nessary. Many dogs that are used for hunting have double coats, to keep them dryer, which in turn keeps them warm.

My worry with the grooming disaster dog is that he had to get shaved because his undercoat was matted. I see wayyy to many dogs have matted coats because their owners don't realise they need to brush their dogs, but I don't know the case of that dog

I have never thought about dying my dogs fur because she is a tri color black tan and brown dog, so I can't dye her fur, but I just never wanted to cause she would hate the process and I would too. It's not fun getting your hair dyed

I love it when people talk about the safety measures needed when dyeing dogs! I have dyed all of my dogs, with dog safe dyes, with zero adverse reactions luckily! My two huskies enjoy being pampered when I dye their tails, and even my golden enjoys his tail or chest being dyed! But on the shaved huskies- my female husky is also my service dog, as such, she goes everywhere with me, INCLUDING during summer, and I live in Florida, she does great! If the floor is too hot, like with any dog, I put boots on her, and depending on how hot it is, I’ll put a cooling coat on, I’ve been yelled at before, called profanities, just for working my husky in summer, because people are unaware that she’s literally wearing warm weather protective gear, I mean, she even has sun glasses!

In my opinion, animal's should remain the colours they were born with. Animals are our companions not our fashion statements.

I like seeing someone talking about dog grooming as so many people don't think of grooming as a part of pet care, even if you are the type of dog owner to leave the majority of grooming needs to a reputable groomer it is a good thing to at least know what your dog's coat type is. I studied a module on dog grooming as part of animal care qualifications and it was really insightful, especially as I had recently gone from always owning labradors (double coated) to a cocker spaniel. Our lab would have broken ice to go swimming (of course we didn't let her but she would have) she didn't feel cold ever but our cocker isn't fussed for swimming in the cooler months but she is also our first dog to get groomed as her coat gets matted and grows quite long (we think she has some sort of imperfection in her coat because she has always had toilet brush legs, the fur does not sit flat there and has to be trimmed to help prevent matting even if she is brushed at least once a week in addition to times when she has been running through brambles and such).
