@@kevinburke1136 There are major problems with Pete's plan. Pete has the most corporate money out of anyone in the race. How do you know that he isn't just playing lip service to thought of having M4AWWI? How do you know that under Pete's system, the public option won't be intentionally overburdened and underfunded in order to prop up the private option? How much is Pete's plan going to cost? Who is going to pay for the public option? is a person that is paying for the private option also paying for the public option? if only the public option recipients are paying for it how much funding is actually going into Pete's public option? Has Pete even thought about this?!

And you clearly speak on behalf of all Americans? Medicare for all doesn't poll well because of the exact reason Pete mentioned -- people want to keep their private insurance. Around 50% of people say they favor a single payer program under the federal government. That number jumps dramatically for a public option. I for one am in that boat. I like my current insurance. I work for a non-profit with great benefits, and wouldn't want to be kicked off my current plan. Stop living in your echo chamber. We're all striving for the same thing, with different solutions to the same problem. Pete's plan actually unifies people in this country more than forcing Medicare for all.

People are dying everyday from preventable illnesses but people like Rachel/Rachel’s Bosses are worried about paying extra. Every other major country has healthcare system not based off of insurance companies making as much money as possible. Why can’t America ? Medicare for all would actually save us money. Per Capita other countries spend way less than Americans. Ask yourself, are these millionaires being completely unbiased when they are presenting this info to you? When health care companies spend money to influence policy did any of it make it to mayor Pete. Look at his high dollar donors or how he refuses to even talk about a plan to get money out of politics. He is the Romney of the Democrats, and it’s sad some people reading that might be happy with that. I need more of a backbone and more integrity for my ideal president and currently the Democratic Party has a few options that are definitely not Pete.

Ok Pete. What happens to the great union healthcare if the union strikes? The corporation uses healthcare as a bargaining chip against them. What if unions didn't have to negotiate for better health benefits? They could've used that effort to bargain for higher wages instead. Does Bernie's plan address the concerns of unions on healthcare? Well he has a provision that says any money that corporations would save under Medicare for all would be given to their union workers in the form of pay increases or other benefits.

@Skankhunt42 as fellow South Park lover myself, I would encourage you to read about why a public option will fail. Why are nurses pushing for M4A instead of the public option? Private insurance would use pre-existing conditions to select the most healthy among us, and send those more likely to be unhealthy and the unhealthy into the public healthcare system. This is the most profitable option after all. The public healthcare system would thus become bloated as there are fewer and fewer healthy people to offset the cost of care for the unhealthy. And when the public option fails, the corporations would then be able to push the idea that government run healthcare doesn’t work... crushing M4A’s chances of ever being enacted. You need to be do better research. Now is not the time to be fooled by lying politicians.

I would have pushed him on two ideas about his healthcare plan that i concede i barely know anything about. 1. If a public option is implemented what will stop all the for profit insurance companies from throwing off their sickest and most expensive patients to the public option? If that happens it will purposefully drive up the costs to the public sector and make private insurance seem more competitive than they actually are since they would be retaining all of their healthy people that mostly pay in to their system. 2. Trump made it pretty obvious how easy it was to tear down n gut obamacare without actually passing any kind of health-care plan law thru Congress. So if a public option is ultimately implemented, whats to stop the next president from misleading the public into thinking that whatever problems happen to be involved in health-care is because of the public option and instead of moving to the logical medicare for all next step like pete says he wants to do, the next president who might be heavily funded thru private ins companies can mislead the public and say sorry we tried but it didnt work so lets go back to the free market approach. If a public option is implemented and fails before we make it to the final stage of medicare for all, then you can kiss the democrat party goodbye. They would be discredited and never taken serious again for decades. The Republican party is not smart on an individual basis, but the party as a whole is very smart about manipulating the public because they would not have lasted this long as a serious party if they werent

Your double negative seems to indicate you want to say that people who want to pay for private shouldn't have that option? Even under M4A they still can. Go nuts with your custom insurance, just understand you don't need it for general healthcare as that's covered by taxes.

@JohnnyCatFitz
@JohnnyCatFitz 4 жыл бұрын
@@gypsylips1950 no, my answer isn't a blanket statement on life and national security though there may be some overlap. Its about taking away all private personal choice for healthcare. A military, a legitimate one by nature of the constitution says well regulated for the purpose of the common defense. Now we are at a place in time whereby poor health is becoming a national security threat ( see somewhat recent Ted talk). So we need to bear that in mind. Private and public roads do exist. Public schools and transportation also exist, though many do not partake. They exist for the common good as well. As far as healthcare,it remains to be seen what it will become so hesitancy isn't unexpected and may be a good thing if issues come up for the possibility of better solutions. And yes, supplemental is an ideal target for future markets, that market already exists with Medicare.

Pete supporter here: Is it bad to change an opinion on a certain political issue? I don't think so. The proposal of Medicare for All Who Want It as laid out by Pete Buttigieg actually includes Medicare. But it includes the option that, if you like your private insurance plan, you would be able to keep that plan. It would even create competition. Competition between a state-run Medicare and private insurance and a battle of who is having the better plan for the needs of the people. The thing is: It could well be that a President of the Democratic Party has to work with a Senate that could have a Republican majority. Imagine a President Bernie Sanders trying to get Medicare for All through a Republican-controlled Senate. The Republicans would smash his campaign promises against the next wall they can find. Therefore, even while I like the idealism of Senator Sanders, I prefer the kind of pragmatic progressivism Mayor Pete Buttigieg is displaying.

They're people who weren't going to vote in the first place...just because Bernie energized them and Hillary didn't...don't see how that's his or their fault for her not being a candidate worth voting for. People who voted for Trump instead of Bernie sound like crazies. I have a hard time imagining there are Bernie fans who would spite-vote for Trump, since he's literally the exact opposite of Bernie. So if you want to blame low Democrat/independent/people who just didn't want Trump to win voter turnout, that's fair. But blaming people for their lack of civic engagement solely on Bernie support is a pretty big logical fallacy... PS, in case it wasn't obvious, even I voted for Hillary in that election, but I'm also someone who believe in voting in all elections. Plenty of people don't get engaged in the political process, and I don't blame them for not being mobilized for Hillary, who would have had plenty of disgusting policies, too, had she won. It's like the trolley problem...sometimes people don't want to pull that trigger and be responsible for the active killing of a single person, even if they know the trolley is going to run over other people if they don't do anything.

After the calamity that has been the Trump era, a stain on history, we need some one who embraces everything that Trump is not. We need honesty, integrity, enthusiasm, able to make team decisions and the ability to bring people together. Of cause the majority of evangelicals will see Mayor Pete as stained, but will forgive Trump for all his misgivings. Surely true christianity is all about forgiveness and not damnation. Let us hope that voters are not fooled into thinking that only a wise old head is what we need. Bernie and Joe are OK, but for the future we need more than just OK. Bernie has his health issues and Joe his mental lapses. Elizabeth Warren would make a great president if she was to follow a conservative Democrat president, but is too diametrically opposed to the Trump administration and most likely a step too far at this point in time for the majority of Democrat voters. I can envision Mayor Pete as a two-term president, a breath of fresh air in a stale political environment. My only reservation is the source of Pete's funding. Obama's tenancy in the WH was spoiled by his loyalty to his Wall Street donors who were never made to make amends for their complicity in the GFC.

The problem with private insurance is that people that can afford private surance have insurance dot-dot-dot it's the people that cannot afford insurance and don't have it. The people that have private insurance aren't willing to share with the people that don't have insurance. Medicare for all would reduce cost the best of any option. Maybe it would have to be done gradually but the idea that people want to keep their own private insurance at the expense of other people not having any insurance is very selfish. Not everybody works for a company that has a union and protect them.

Not paying the monthly insurance premium will be a raise of over $500 a month for a single person, with medicare4all in place. You can't decide about ins when the ins companies started giving you donations.

@Karen Byrd I hope you understand that Pete is for regression. No one can deny that he's smug when talking to reporters and voters. That relates to arrogance. Bernie is not arrogant. We shouldn't be afraid of Bernie not winning. Bernie has started a movement. Pete has started a weird dance. Pete supported many things that Bernie has until he started fundraising and his positions changed suddenly. That shows how corruptible he is to go against the welfare and livelihood of the American people for his own interest. Money. Vote Bernie.

He's so slimy. Rachel tried and asked some very fair questions that he kind of sidestepped. Especially like - "why doesnt it seem to bother you that health care lobbyists want your plan and not M4A if you know they are bad actors" - she could've said that more bluntly. He is right though - they don't want a Public Option either, but they will fight much harder against M4A.

Regardless of his views on the healthcare issue, it is welcoming to to watch an interview with a political candidate that speaks "normally" and doesn't have to go to the cliches so commonly used by most politicians. This guy is not going to be defined as a professional politician since he still answers questions with a direct response as opposed to the professional politicians that give a non-answer to a question and redirect the conversation to an unrelated subject.
