I do too. Good thing he escaped Lawrence Welk!!! But he did gain national fame on the show. My dad loved Lawrence Welk and I couldn't stand him. It was just so corny!

In the late 1950s I bought an LP with the Dukes of Dixieland and guest clarinetist Pete Fountain. I practically wore the record out, much to the chagrin of my family. But basically they were supportive and my love of Dixieland jazz (Trad jazz as it was in the 1960s) rose in leaps and bounds.

@@bobdillaber1195 I loved the Lawrence Welk Show. When my family visited my dad's parents in Iowa, we watched LW. When we visited my mom's parents in Oklahoma, we watched LW. When I was growing up in Virginia, we watched LW. The music was changed up frequently, and the show employed some of the most talented singers and musicians out there. I still occasionally watch the LW Show, but now the others are all gone.

@@twistoffate4791 Yes Lawrence Welk was extremely popular on the day. People have different tastes in music, foods, hobbies, ideas, etc. None of them are either right or wrong. The are just what they are. I myself couldn't stand his music. It was just my personal feeling. Others felt completely different. There is no right or wrong about it. As a musician I think it's great when people listen to and enjoy ANY kind of music.
