The fact that Ganz could play this role becoming an angel looking over Berlin and then later in his career playing Hitler is a clear indication of artistic genius

I'm in awe of this scene. Every piece of it fits together masterfully. The camera work; the editing and pacing; the background actor. Most of all, how Peter Falk does his soliloquy to the angel whose presence he can sense, but can't see. The tiniest details of his delivery and mannerisms. That moment when he drops his cigarette to rub his hands together. To me, this is perfect.

We watched this (as well as "Berlin Alexanderplatz") and finally went to Berlin in 1989, my college buddy and I. And yes, we experienced much of what this film depicts -- and then some -- living mainly on the streets like the angels. Berlin had a deep and moody vibe pre-Wall-fall. No other place like it in the world. Got to experience the Wall coming down as well. Berliners back then were all extra-dimensional beings in an extra-dimensional setting. Lebe wohl ihr Großen.

I appreciate this, seriously! It's a great line. But forgive me, I need to correct: It says "Wer Bunker baut wirft Bomben" and I'd translate it this way: "Someone who builds bunkers throws bombs (as well)."
