1: Passion (1989) 10/10 ❤

I think Peter Gabriel's two best albums are so and his instrumental alarm from 1989 passion absolutely fantastic work.

I love all solo albums but my favorite part was in Genesis just genius!!!Legend

I saw him live here in Houston on his last show of the I/O tour. His creativity is simply amazing. His albums, including the Genesis era, have to be played at the right time to enjoy them. I think every music collector should own Gabriel's discography as a must.

My favourite Peter Gabriel album is: “ security” because, although it did came out in 1982, that year was my all-time favourite in my life. I turned 18 that year!🤘

PG is one of my absolute favorites. I was looking forward to getting the i/o boxset but they are all sold out. Upset that I didn't get one but glad that people are still buying cds.

I bought the record store day release 2022 of Live Blood expanded. It is the entire concert on 3 vinyl records. It includes Book of Love from the Shall We Dance. I think it makes a difference to have the entire concert vs. 11 track on the CD. Nice review with explanation of your choices. So, Us, and Melt are my top 3 favorites. 😊

I'm yet to hear Us and Up, or New Blood and Scratch My Back which I don't think count as Peter Gabriel albums, but here's my ranking so far.I 6. Scratch 5. Security 4. Melt 3. i/o 2. Car 1. So Absolutely love everything I've heard though, his discography is one of the hardest to rank.

Wow, a Peter Gabriel ranking I almost completely agree with. I'd just push "Us" up one place and kick "So" a couple down. Does it mean I won't be liking the new album much? I had high hopes after reading the reviews, I guess we'll see.

I would put the album which has two of his most important songs, "Solsbury Hill" and "Here Comes the Flood," at the top.

My top 2 PG albums are "UP" which you ranked pretty low and Peter Gabriels first album (Car) which you didn't even mention! WOW how on earth could you have left it out??? You ranked New Blood and Scratch My Back which most PG fans don't consider true PG "new releases" New Blood PG with orchestra 👎 boring as hell and a waste of time rehashing older songs, and Scratch My Back covers others songs 👎👎 I viewed it as him wasting time (Again) rather than producing "NEW" music. Being a Genesis fan from the early days his first release helped mend my broken heart after leaving Genesis and that album was very much a hard left turn from Genesis and is a great album none the less... BRENDON I'd really like to know why you left it out????? I've seen PG 5x now and love all his studio music and his live albums (except for the 2 time wasting albums) I've grown weary of Biko and In You Eyes though having heard them too many times live both in person and recordings.

I didn't put the "BIRDIE" soundtrack in there because it's mostly made up of instrumentals of his previous work... otherwise it would be pretty high on the list. Great stuff. I haven't delved into "RABBIT PROOF FENCE" enough to rank it.

3 (Melt), So, and Us are in my top 3. The new one will probably be between 4-6 when all is said and done.

sledgehammer video: yes, ground-breaking. For me it is the dancing chicken in the instrumental. I would say that the video for the new song, Panopticom, is equally as ground-breaking. Check it out, if you haven't seen it.

Im not familiar with every album here. But im more of a casual fan. Will definitely get some more of his catalog. New one sounds really good

Liked " Melt " best, just ahead of " So ", and " Security " I/O is good/very good, but, can't quite call it great(at least not yet)

I/O may be his most substantial work....So...track by track is fantastic...but to my ears,the production doesn't sound timeless at all....strange 'cos it's always the case with Lanois...sleghammer sounds like 86....idem with Big Time,that said melt is my favorite and won't move...but I see I/O as my 2nd...really...such a scope...so complete...subltle...and rich...it's a kind of quiet giant work to me.

Fun fact, Trent Reznor (NIN) once blocked me on old Twitter about 10 years ago because I said he ripped off Gabriel's Melt album, haha! Was just listening to i/o and here you are with a countdown. My top 3 must be Melt, So and the underappreciated US. Keep on rockin

Security is my number 1!

Not to nit pick but you describe the album cover for security as a "mask" figure. It is actually photo of the facial effects of being in a rocket sled testing the effects of high velocity travel on the ground near a test site either in west texs, nevada or new mexico. The air pressure pushes the face to be blown all over, so you see what happens when faced (no pun intended) with enormous air pressure on the face.

I remember reading that the record company forced Peter to name the fourth album so people would know it was a new album. They told him they would put the sticker on the front cover over the plastic. It turned out that many copies had it placed right on the cardboard itself. I don['t remember if it was intentional or just a mistake, but Peter was pissed about it and for the next album he changed record labels. I bought Security, but I can remember if the sticker was on the plastic or the album itself. The label thought it was confusing to have every album just called Peter Gabriel.

Ngl his solo career has been severely disappointing to me, following his stuff with Genesis that I consider some of the greatest music of all time, while his solo career has mainly been just very good: 1.
