I Grieve is one of the most beautiful songs for people who are grieving as his voice as it builds makes the same sound our souls make during such a painful journey of missing the one you love. I listen to this song often after the loss of my husband almost 10 years ago! ♥️🕊️

+Sonia Khatri I would consider Peter Gabriel pretty mainstream. But to me, that doesn't matter. He's still an excellent musician. Sometimes great people are mainstream. Sometimes they're not. It's irrelevant.

+Jaydoggy531 I'd say that he is known by pretty much every person that's activly looking for music from different times and people that lived in the 80's and became bombarded by Sledgehammer from MTV or the radio. But if you were born in the 90's and only listened to music on the radio you could be totally unaware of him. But yes, he is a great musician and that's what really matters.

In the early 70s, PG introduced me to artistry, in the 80s he was my style guru, through it all a wise guide for living an honest life. And the outstanding music has worked into my consciousness and become the soundtrack of my inner life. It's impossible to over estimate the effect of this man on my life

Massive massive fan of Peter and that era of genesis. ..was fortunate enough to see him do the lamb and he became my hero from then on..no better person than him to talk about life music and all the challenges that it throws up...Peter was streets ahead of everyone at his peak with genesis and then went on to even greater achievements and success...a truly remarkable musician and human being....

I LOVE that song. Peter Gabriel reminds me of Bono in the way that he has the ability to channel (in ernest) his emotions into the listener. Some may say it is really good acting. I say, rather, that is in innate ability to touch your soul.

Thank you so much for this film. I've enjoyed Peter Gabriel's music since the 80s and it's wonderful to hear him speak about music in this way. His music does seem to truly resonate emotionally for people (including myself). I've enjoyed these discussions (such as the one with Nigella Lawson) because the subjects are thinking very deeply about their field and there is plenty of time given to get into the nitty gritty. Thanks again. I think I'll be rewatching this one.

Peter: an astute, heart-fathomed insight into a topic which is, at very least, a mainframe institution of remunerative channels which allow associative dispersion(s) of anxiousness and passive undertones to be expressly renounced in the Spirit of Sound which, always divinely congruent with Presence, allows the process of Life to be appreciated responsively and Illumined in the Crystalline, Auric Light of The Supreme Creator.

differous01 i am fascinated with how music is a language of it's own that has to do with the way relationships between audible frequencies speak to our nervous systems/brains in ways that evoke emotions... so yes, it is primal, non verbal, intuitive -and yet it also correlates with a kind of physics and mathematics in a way that is so cool!

"When you are a shy and spotty boy music opens up the world in mysterious ways". For at least half of the audience THAT 'find a mate' thing is pretty interesting. I've tried cornering a few groupies to find out what attracts them to shy, spotty boys in bands. I've heard that they like the creativity, they admire their bravery at 'standing apart from the pack' or even attempting to lead it. I've also heard that its simply a competitive thing with other girls and that its a good way to have meaningless sex without worrying about a long term commitment. But the overall consensus has kind of been that its not the greatest way to find a 'permanent' mate, although Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford seemed to have been more successful in that department than the other members of Genesis. But to have the world open up in those ways when you are dressed as a flower and at concerts which at the time were almost universally male, well, thats quite an accomplishment.
@Fritha71
@Fritha71 7 ай бұрын
Well, Peter was no spotty boy once he started having fame in Genesis, he actually grew into a gorgeous man, haha. There is a video on KZfaq where Genesis performed on a Belgique TV program in early '72 and he is downright pretty in it! Incidentally, I read just recently an old magazine article from the late 70s where Peter's road manager and old friend revealed that PG found groupies mostly a disturbing phenomenon LOL He married what was likely his first serious girlfriend and they were together for fifteen years, she travelled with him on the road quite often. He's now been married to his second wife for over twenty years so I don't think our flower man has done too badly either...
@mikearchibald744
@mikearchibald744 7 ай бұрын
@@Fritha71 I didn't mean to suggest anythign otherwise to that, MANY artists find the notion of 'groupies' kind of creepy, for good reason. Of course being married doesn't necessarily mean anything, just ask Roger waters. In his solo career he stopped dressing up, and by the eighties you see pictures of him 'looking quite rock starry'. But when you are dressed as a flower or old man or shave the middle of your head, thats a little harder to sell. I also read that his first wife pretty much divorced him for a reason about many brits and artists, I seem to recall her saying that he was far better at sharing his emotions with an audience than he was with her. I don't find that very surprising.

The song don't give up is of course a good song and the discussion here is how it's possibly saved some lives which is probably the case, but a number of years ago when I was suicidal the song put me in a worse state of mind so these days if I'm having a bad day I'll listen to something more upbeat with carefree lyrics and on a good day where things are going well I'll enjoy a song like don't give up
