For years I had the delusion that the silent majority would rise, one day I realised that the majority were silent because they did not care, soon after that I discovered Peter Hitchens. The comfort I take from Hitchens is that I can free myself from the stress of hoping for top down change and focus on my family and local things over which I have some actual influence.
@TimTheH

Thinking the same way now. Focussing on life's struggles that you CAN make a difference in and not trying to make the subjective utopia you envision the world should follow. Top down changes only happen if the majority of said top is on the same page but everyone's got their own personal agenda in democratic governments and not all of them are 'for the people'. More totalitarian regimes have more chance of top down changes because there are less parties with power, but power inevitably corrupts and views still remain subjective in the end. In short, at the end of the day you cannot please everyone. So make a choice on which people you want to please most and spend energy where it matters and has a greater chance for effect.

The aim of propaganda is not to persuade but to destroy the will of the people, people actually believing it is just an extra... The amount of gaslighting the msm has done the last two years alone for me has almost made me given up, people dont care about real problems they just want to see the people they dislike suffer for no other reason than they dislike them wether its ideological or personal. This wont end well.

The Nazis party may have been wiped out in WW2 but not the ideology, it never died and is rising again under the banner of woke and progressive cancel culture. I used to ask my mother, who lived through the war in England how so many good German people went along with the Nazis and she used to say the people believed the propaganda and now I can see it for myself, the same thing is happening again.

@Veggie Madness that is a very good point about utopia, dostoyevsky wrote about human nature saying that it is impossible for a utopia to exist because people would go out of their way to destroy it to confirm their will of freedom, existence and meaning which is what is basically happening now people have it easier than ever (before the tyrannical mandates etc.) And still find a way through self destruction to be "poor" or sad through their own acrions. He also funnily wrote about great working ledgers that could predict peoples actions, catalogue them etc and ultimately control them, he also stated i think because of the latter reason in utopia that is not possible in the long run because people do illogical things just to defy their "fate". A sort of limbo situation it seems in the end.

The Old Testament lays out pretty clear patterns. I've heard those patterns lately described as, "hard times make good men, good men make good times, good times make soft men, soft men make hard times," and we are in that last phase. We are in a time of prophets (to be ignored) and decadence (to be indulged), and what will follow is of no surprise to the occasional reader of histories. As always, there will be a remnant.

Their worse nightmare is for anyone to call them names like "extremist" or "Nazi". You can't build a radical right movement with people who wet the bed by name calling. It simply isn't in their DNA. @@organismseven3700 It's not entirely true that Hitchens doesn't want to dismantle the current system. One of his pet grievances is that nobody listened to him when he advised conservatives not to vote and thereby cause the party to collapse and reconsider their offering. Instead Cameron came to power with a liberal agenda. Terminology is becoming confusing. The dissident right are claiming the 'traditional' territory. Who wouldn't balk at being called a fash. The trad dissident right are literally that. They seek a strong man rulership. They do not seek to restore checks and balances on a democratic system.

In the early days of the lockdown, it appeared to me that I was a minority of one that didn’t buy into the mass hysteria which was omnipresent and unopposed. Isolated and with seemingly everyone I knew believing that we were all in mortal danger, it appeared that there was no one who would entertain any form of discussion around what was going on, other than repeating whatever was said on television perma “breaking news”. My mental health suffered and I prefer not to think about what I might have done to escape the despair, loneliness, frustration and hopelessness if things continued as they were. Then I heard a debate between Peter Hitchens with Mike Graham and when I heard Peter’s opinion on the matter exactly mirrored my own. The feeling of relief was palpable. Not only was Peter making the same arguments that I would have (had there been any outlet for me to discuss them with), but he did so in such an articulate and knowledgeable way. So compelling was his argument, that gradually Mike Graham (whom I also have great respect for) began to disagree less and less over the following weeks until the point that they were pretty much in complete agreement. I shall be eternally grateful to Peter Hitchens for restoring my hope and giving me the peace of knowing that there were others who also saw things the way I did. I shall also be eternally grateful to Talk Radio for giving Peter Hitchens the platform to express his opinions and having a proper debate when main stream media chose not to. If Peter feels that he has done his part then I feel that he has earned the right to spend his time as he chooses. However, all that he has done was not for nothing. I am quite sure that his efforts have been worthwhile to many people like myself, those that always agreed and those that may not have in the beginning. Mr. Peter Hitchens, I salute you.

I'm still a young man and I have to agree wholeheartedly with Peter Hitchens on this one - it doesn't matter how much we analyse and figure out on a big-picture basis if none of the politicians or institutions will listen. But that doesn't mean our type of inquiry was wrong, it means it fell on the wrong ears. So our next question becomes "how do we craft institutions which will listen, which are bound to listen, when those currently in power are too scared or ignorant to do so?" I'm sure the answer to that question has crossed the mind of academics such as Hitchens, and I hope he and others find the courage to say it before my generation's time has passed too.

Crossed my mind before hitches. They don’t need to listen. They need to obey the king. The king isn’t presenting his orders properly to the dogs under him. So the dogs are destroying the mansion. So contract law rules. Even the proverbial devil obeys contract law. The contract hasn’t been right, it’s not that don’t listen, it’s they can’t hear you properly. If you equal in law why are you asking an equal or public servant for anything. You tell them. They are tricking the plebs into thinking they are pharaohs again with divine authority.

Peter has had a platform, and whether he feels as if the establishment has not listened to him, plenty of peasants have taken note, learning a lot from his insights. Politics is downstream from culture, and he's helped to build an alternative view of rightwing culture ... the dividends from his decades of investment might not have been paid yet, but I'm bullish on payments into the future once the establishment starts to collapse (it's already crumbling) and alternative forms of governance are pursued by fresh cultural movements on the right.

Peter early this year though decided all was lost, it wasn't worth continuing with that particular fight and changed tack to rail against what he considered the real scourge of society, e-scooters! Whether he was "gotten to" I don't know but that turn to fight the banal made me lose a lot of respect for him and I haven't listened to a word he's said since.

For such a deep thinking man Peter your believe that nothing you have done has made any difference is desperately short sighted. How many people have heard your views and have been inspired to look deeper into an issue or to re-evaluate their own position. I know I have. How many people involved in Politics, or in the media have been enriched, encouraged, strengthened by a voice that seeks truth and isn't afraid to stand up and question. I would go so far as to say that at the very least indirectly you have played a strong role in such things as Brexit. Your respected voice gave people the belief. I hope that much of the work you have done and will do will be helpful to this generation and those to come.
