This was the first song I encountered, where I really started to understand Avi as a solo sing, and not just the base line. His oper training/classical training comes out so clearly in this piece.

Great version of a great song. Avi and Peter work well together.

I'm glad someone else finally commented on Avi's different hairstyles. I think the "softer" hairstyle was Avi's "lead singer" hair, as most of the time his more tightly pulled style appeared when he was hitting the deep bass notes in the background. I like the softer hair; he doesn't look as approachable with the tight and stiff look. I'm glad you enjoyed this one. This is a fantastic and touching performance, but it's not everyone's cup of tea. Appalachian folk songs are a bit off the beaten path, even for a cappella singers.

I’m from the land smack between the Appalachian mountains and the Mason-Dixon Line (10 minutes north of my home). I often don’t even realize that song of the songs I’m so used to hearing are Appalachian folk songs.

Love this video. Avi is my favorite and Peter Hollens can sing with anyone and sound great. Thanks for doing this reaction.

It's a song what you have to take time for. Just sit down, headphones on and listen ... then it is a beatiful song.

I was having a bad pain night and struggling to sleep when I started this. Was half asleep at the end. Both touching and soothing.

Lost 3 peakers to Avi. Been waiting for this reaction. Loved it as usual. Any PTX, Avi, Peter, Home Free, or Citizen Queen which is a fairly new female a cappella group. By the way Home Free is on a World Tour. Go to their site for dates & places.

This is a beautiful, and old song. As a classical vocalist, I have sang this many times. It’s a standard part of the classical repertoire, but I’ve never heard it like this before. Amazing!!

So beautiful! Say, I just heard Home Free has a new world tour happening and they are coming to Australia! I know it’s a big country, but I thought if you immediately. You would LOVE their concert, I’ve been and they were so fun and down to earth and just themselves, it was great! And of course the music was amazing! I hope you are able to go!

Thank you so much. Yes he did bring that bass lol Avi is in a league of his own........there is something so in the sound of his voice that seems to hit you in the heart.....or is that only with me? haha I really do wonder if Avi had been given more solos would he have left PTX?
@KathyWashburnBunn5 жыл бұрын
The reason Avi gave for leaving was that the group's fast pace was a struggle for him; he couldn't see his loved ones or escape to nature when he needed to. What I've seen of concert footage confirms that: in their early years Avi had a spring in his step, but when I saw him perform with PTX in 2017 he was visibly tired. More solos wouldn't have fixed that; he needed time and space for self care. Now that he has that, songs flow from him.

If you watch the Coming Home Tour Pentatonix documentary Avi is interviewed and talks back then, 2015 I think about the difficulty he has being away from family and friends for most of the year. I think what he and they have told us is exactly why he left. He seems much happier now. Check out his Instagram, FB, Twitter or KZfaq page.

Black Is the Color (of My True Love's Hair)" is a traditional ballad folk song known in the US as associated with colonial and later music in the Appalachian Mountains. It is believed to have originated in Scotland, as it refers to the River Clyde in the lyrics. American musicologist Alan Lomax supported the thesis of Scottish origin, saying that the song was an American "re-make of British materials." Beautiful, simply beautiful 🏴💙🦄

Peter Holden’s also does a song with Scott from PTX called Turn Up The Music. Its from 2012 so it’s baby Scott. Still good though. It’s A Capella but sounds like an electronic dance song. You should check it out.

You should react to "Wizard of Ahhs" by Todrick Hall and Pentatonix. It's a retelling of Wizard of Oz with modern songs and the production of the video is outstanding. I think you would really enjoy it!
