Got in my taxi this evening, and before I even opened my mouth, he asked me “Been busy?” I answered, without thinking and he explained he thought he’d ask before I do, and it’s been like that ever since “that comedian” made a joke about it. It’s weird being on the other side of that for once 😂

Grparents came to Can from Stockport Chesh. 1906 and I've visited the area staying with a cousin in Bolton.. Wonder if my fam. spoke like that? Cousin had a diff. accent so maybe Peter's isn't just pure Bolton. Love watching audience enjoy him even if I miss out on what is going on sometimes. And it's good clean fun - no f word and smut which is a real art today. God bless Peter Kay.

As a former cabbie of nearly 5 years I can confirm that 99.9% of my hires asked those 2 questions every time. The 0.1% who didn't ask were very odd folk.

Most taxi drivers I ever get, act like they've been forced to give me a lift. We sit in total silence and every time he stops for lights he touches the bridge of his nose and sighs. Then when I give him a decent tip he just takes it. Just takes it. Don't you dare thank me.

Whenever I get a taxi which isn't often I always get told "how much do you usually pay?" When I goto pay. I'm assuming that's to see what I say and if I say more than he would have charged. Luckily these days there's apps that show you the price before they come.

I'm from a smallish town and always used the same cab firm, then one of the guys went on his own so I went to him and he was my taxi guy until I emigrated, he always charged me a fiver, never put the meter on, even though the going rate was about 8 quid into town. Every third or fourth trip I would chuck him a tenner. He was a good bloke, Les.

😂 im a taxi driver and ill be honest I like to jusy give people there space, if they dont talk I assume they dont want to and leave it at that. But if you try talking to us youll find were very talkative, how i gage it is life can be tough and its nice to just have a bit of quiet so i try and facilitate that for my customers. Out of curiosity how/what would be a good conversation starter from the taxi driver to customer?

There was a cd that not many people will have heard. I used to listen to it every night to help me sleep. It wasn't a stand up tour gig as such it was him sat in a car with someone chatting to them and then it put clips in of various stand up routines . It was called Peter Kay my mum wants a bungalow tour and it was a cd they sold after the show I think. Try Amazon. His other stand ups also have a cd too again check Amazon. But check what you're buying as it's not necessarily the actual stand up gig on the cd. Still always worth a buy though.

Have you been busy (etc)...my Dad ALWAYS said this when we were in a late night taxi. I thought it was simply because he actually was a taxi driver for the same company . Never realised it was a thing !

Odd you should say that .... whilst my hubby and I cry with laughter at every clip - my millennial late 20 something son sat stony faced throughout an entire show of his on TV - think it was the Bolton Hall one .... just sat there - didn't even smile once ..... He clearly thought his parents were saddos....
