Amazing - thank you for this interview! I was at the early 1990s gig. It was at the Cotati Cabaret in Cotati CA, and Peter recounted the story of going down to get Bob Mosely from under the bridge off I5. The band sounded great, and we had no idea we were seeing an historic reunion, however brief. I think the band performed as The Melvilles.

Now that they have the rights to their name and music back, they should put out quality reissues for their LP's, unreleased and live material, etc. The demand has got to be there.

I really wish they would. Been trying to get those last round of Sundazed reissues from 07 that go for hundreds of dollars. Damn that Katz for screwing them so bad. It’s a crime that the first album is so hard to find.

I had forgotten about the shooting of the bird on the album cover...it was blurred out on the copy we had. I loved the Grape.

I totally agree with Peter when he states what he thinks of their recordings! Other than the first, none truly protrayed the talent of this.fantastic musicians! Grape deserved so much mor than they ever received! Skippy and Bob could not deal with all the hostillities and chaos of the management issues!

Bob was a soulful person and never crazy, he was in situations that he didn't want to.deal with! If the Bands downs weren't so continuous and deception haunting he and the rest of.the.band would have been at the top!

What Peter said about the ultra view of SF psychadelic rock as THE answer to life everafter was so correct. I thought being in our band in those days was fun, and had NO answers to anything EXCEPT fun and entertainment. The problem with adding drugs to the whole scene is they tend to make the musicians philosophers; zealots w/o knowledge, hypocrites as hippies.

It was interesting. Moby Grape 69 might have been their best "produced" and good for 1969. The debut album album is still their best. 20 Granite Creek was not bad either. Jerry Miller could´ve been a good Nashvile studio player. Give Moby Grape credit , they never quit after disasters.

One of the main reasons I never wanted to be a professional musician is because, in general, the music business is so full of crooks. Katz ruined arguably the most talented band to come out of the mid-60s SF scene. If there's a hell, I hope he is roasting. I grew up in SF and lost count of how many times I saw Moby Grape. This was a great interview but a really cautionary tale for those musicians who want to make it big.

I learned EVERY note on the first album. I was there at the Fillmore when the back cover photo was shot (big red balloon). The Moby Grape story makes me hate the music business. A true horror and pathetic nightmare. I did a record and tour with the first band signed to EMI America (Spellbound) and that spit me out of the music business permanently. Just the world’s most evil horrible people in the music business.
