In this special episode of Uncommon Knowledge, host Peter Robinson remembers Christopher Hitchens, a British American author, journalist, and personal friend, through a series of excerpts from past interviews on Uncommon Knowledge. These excerpts cover discussions of Marxism, the Vietnam War, the Civil Rights Movement and the Great Society, Iraq and the Middle East, the war on terrorism, and the history of the American Left.

Wow, I just found this. What a beautiful, heartfelt and emotional memorial to Hitch. Peter Robinson, as per usual, does a pristine job. Peter showing his reverence and condolence to Christopher really got me in the feels. Thank you HooverInstitution. Good on you.

Christopher Hitchens: articulate, intelligent, and not immune to persuasion and transformation. He is the only "new atheist" I really respect as a person of principle. I am not advocating his canonization; why would I so insult him? I am simply honoring a man to whom honor is due.

Lovely little tribute with a good selection of segments. I always think it's the sign of a good presenter of high character when they feel comfortable showing clips of people disagreeing with them or at least challenging their own positions.

What happened to us? I'm a millennial, I have seen quite a few videos from 20-30 years ago. Time and again, liberals and conservatives are having genuinely respectful and civil debates/conversations. Nowadays, things are so politically divided. Not just left/right, I have recently seen liberals and conservatives at their own throats. Granted, many of the video are of Hitch conversing with folks. i think anyone who knows of Hitch knows that he had a way with words. But I have noticed this with other people. Folks just talking, considering their differences, getting to the crux of the matter. Things are not like that anymore. Folks don't respect one another, it's actually absurd. No, not Trump, he is but a symptom. And no, Not "O'Bummer", anyone who is an honest person can admit that Obama's main problem is his skin color. (They were calling him a Nazi Communist Muslim Infiltrator on Jan 19, 2009. Just don't.) It has gotten to the point that nothing is possible. No hope for debate, hell, congress doesn't seem to even know compromise means. The people are little different. No one can consider the others point of view. No one can fathom that they might be incorrect on a subject. Such a mindset leaves little to no room for change, possibility, hell anything. I think I am witnessing the fall of Western civilization. Then again I might just giving into hysterics.

I'm not sure a more talented debater is even alive in this present day. Whether Hitchens was demonstrably right or wrong, he always seemed to be extraordinarily correct.

Strong gongs groaning as the guns boom far, Don John of Austria is going to the war, Stiff flags straining in the night-blasts cold In the gloom black-purple, in the glint old-gold, Torchlight crimson on the copper kettle-drums, Then the tuckets, then the trumpets, then the cannon, and he comes. Don John laughing in the brave beard curled, Spurning of his stirrups like the thrones of all the world, Holding his head up for a flag of all the free... ...Don John of Austria Is riding to the sea.

Hydeman but kurd flag has yellow star. And it's pure red. It's more similar to Indian than Kurdistan

It's kind of difficult to tell from this distance but yeah, I'll give you that (even though it really just looks like a dark, indeterminate colour). The reason why I think it's the Kurdish flag is that he was known to wear it regularly and often commented on it in interviews and appearances, whereas I don't think there's any interview in which he acknowledged wearing the Indian flag on his lapels. But whatever, I suppose we'll never know for sure. :)

Hitchers has a mature intellect (Manners) backed up by a wide and deep World view. A unique parental pathology, I believe has had the effect of limiting his biology studies to the a particular Oxford political (Darwinism "conclusion jump" to No God) .effectively putting a lid on his thinking. Otherwise. I respected the depth of his perspective on history and ability to derive its many lessons.

I hate when this Robertson guy interrupts Hitchens mid-thought to ask an unimportant question. Let us hear his brilliance, nobody wants to hear you!
