I watched Schmichel and his teammates win Euro 1992 and then win many more titles with United. The best goalkeeper I have ever seen.

He was huge and fast, a rare (and perfect) combination for a goalkeeper and also a incredible intuition, sense of danger, the most important things to be a goalkeeper.

His distribution to start counter attacks for Manchester United in the early 90s was breathtaking. And one on ones no goalkeeper past or present comes close this is what sets him apart from the rest.

He could throw the ball past the center line! The ability of a keeper to start a counter attack is often overlooked, but when you have fast, skilled people in front (like Giggs in Man U or Brian Laudrup for Denmark) a skill like that is highly valuable.

Even after all these years he still takes my breath away. You have to laugh at the strikers grabbing their head in despair. Some already saw the ball in the back of the net. That's how you know an extraordinary save.

Not even the best of his era though You should look at what other keepers give you... Its like gk debates in general: you have all these good guys and then you have a neuer that can do it all as well but adds an entirely different and new layer to all that

@@kloschuessel773 It's just my opinion you may have a different opinion. When I judge a goalkeeper, I don't just look at his skills, but also his influence on the team etc.

@@bartoszbrodowicz276 ok... What influence? Manu won before him and after him. There was no greater influence in his presence than there was with kahns... And then you arent talking about a players abilities anymore... I do value those abilities as well btw but you simply cant ignore the dominance of a neuer and way he changed the game bcs you like a dude that yells a lot.

As a kid I used to work at OT and I had the privilege of standing in between the goal and the Stretford End as he warmed up with Brian Kidd (then assistant coach to Fergie)! He would go through the same routine every pre-game, stretches, ground work, long shots, distribution, crosses and if Brian Kidd ever placed a shot or cross an inch out of place he would be really on his case! His warm up and his approach to his profession was beyond intense and although the guy was huge he still had super human agility and reflexes and a proper winning mentality!!! For me the best goalkeeper to have ever played the game!!!

and you are not even mentioning his verbal presence always making sure to keep his defence on alert an pushing out the best of them. Also he simply had hands the size of a toilet seat. He would pluck a cross in mid air one handed and throw all the way to midfield and setting up countless counter attacks both for United and the danish national team. Absolutely the best keeper there ever was! Uniteds decline in Premier League was more or less at the same time Schmeichel retired!

De fato!! Muito se fala do Neuer ser revolucionário e ele é, mas Schmeichel foi praticamente o inventor do recurso do espacate e da saída X serem usados no futebol de campo, e hoje quase todo goleiro trabalha esse recurso, é quase que imprescindível. Se não foi o melhor da história, foi no mínimo um dos três. Ele era fantástico.

Nobody ever will reach the level of Peter, best GK to ever grace this planet. I know a lot of young guys dont know him, but for us who were lucky enough to watch him every week thru the 90s, it was like watching a character from Captain Tsubasa, but IRL. Absolute beast.

Più forte anche di Buffon, e non lo dico perché non stimo quest'ultimo, ma perché oggettivamente Smeichel era di una categoria superiore. Uno dei più grandi portieri della storia del calcio, la leggenda della Danimarca; le sue parate a Effenberg nella finale del '99 contro il Bayern Monaco rimarranno leggenda per sempre
