In 1991, Peter Thomas and his business partner Adrian Loader founded The Professional Monitor Company Limited, which became better known as simply PMC. The company began as a maker of monitors for professional studios, but it wasn’t long before they also began designing and manufacturing loudspeakers for the home. Today, PMC still makes both.
But before PMC, Peter Thomas worked for the UK’s BBC for about 20 years. In this video, SoundStage! founder Doug Schneider interviews Thomas about his time at the BBC and how he and Loader came to form PMC. The interview gives unique insights into Thomas, the BBC, and PMC that every audio enthusiast needs to know.

The PMC Twenty5 26 were the first speakers which seriously made me think about getting high end speakers (as compared to headphones and IEMs only). Saw and heard them for the very first time at Metropolis Studio, Chiswick, London. Although it was an audio exhibition and hence not an ideal environment to fully appreciate speakers, they still left a mark on my memory - It was in March 2017. Finally bought them earlier this month 😊.

Good interview. A speaker that reproduces speech well will sound correct and rarely disappoint. Transmission lines are controversial, but probably no worse than other box speakers. Pro audio is business, whilst consumer is riddled with tweaky snake oil.

Thank you SoundStage for this extraordinary video. I am pleasantly surprised by the simplicity, transparency and humility of Peter Thomas. I already own a pair of the Twenty 24 and I can tell after watching the video it is as if they have been gained a lot of value. A simple question: Does anyone know what are the green discs that Peter Thomas commented on improving the sound of the CD player etc?

Great interview. When listening to Peter discuss his transmission line design I was brought back to that day I heard a pair at TAF. My strongest impression of the speaker was how tight and detailed the bass was. If you love detail you owe it to yourself to listen to a pair.

Could you kindly elaborate? What would be the speakers that you think wouldn't be considered as a joke? I'm curious to know?
