Funny how people can think that Max would be sandbagging if Red Bull would ask him to. They do not have a clue what kind of person he is. The red bull was not the quickest car this weekend, if Max and Lando would've switched seats, Max would've won by 15 seconds

“He cant handle the pressure” really? Who ever thinks that way be honest with yourself, no driver in the current grid would have handled the 2021 season, the amount of pressure the season had and max was still the most consistent driver of that season barely made any mistakes apart from the saudi quali lap. Mounting a championship battle with Mercedes was no mean feat it came with pressure not only track but off track as well, the political and media pressure any driver would fall for that but max was like a stone cold machine that entire season not bothered by anything. We saw how spectacularly Vettel failed in his championship fight with Mercedes. Like peter said people who say that he cant handle pressure don’t know what they are talking about or they are talking out of pure hatred.

@@vashisl33tso you’d have to be comparing Max to a robot to say he makes mistakes like everybody else. The fact is he doesn’t. He used to have a lesser car and had to claw for pace, that’s when he made mistakes. Max didn’t even let Lando get a chance at an overtake, he was 1.5 seconds up with 6 laps to go. He was at one point losing 1 second a lap sometimes more for the 5 laps before that. How he found pace is magical. You’re a common hater and should really leave that crap to American sports. This is world sports, we should all have respect for the athletes and their accomplishments. And right now Max is Pele, he is Roger Federer

Anyone who thinks Max isn't good under pressure, should watch the Barcelona weekend 2016 again! That race also underlines what Peter said early in this video Max has the ability to trust is driving capabilities and free up brain power. He actually used his knowledge of when the Ferrari engine derated, because the race before he drove a Toro Rosso with that same engine in the back!!! That helped him in knowing when he could ease off, preserving the last bit of life in his tires and when he needed to use his battery power! To hold off World Champion Kimi Räikkönen in a Ferrari (which at that point was a better car than the Red Bull), was nothing less than astounding!!

It's mad that anyone could say Max can't handle pressure after watching 2021. Everything since then has been trivial compared to that season. He had lewis driving the superior car (from Silverstone onwards in my reckoning) and breathing down his neck the whole season and absurd pressure/bullying from the pro-Mercedes media. Fending off lando for a few laps is childsplay in comparison.

@@turninflatYour lot are looking at this completely wrong. Was Max faster than the Mclarens by 2-tenths in the last run of q3? Yes. But he was only 6-hundredths faster in the first sector in his second run than his first run of q3. Which means he didn't gain 2-tenths from the tow, rather only 6-hundredths. Furthermore, if you had really paid close attention, you woulda notice that Max was consistently faster in sector 1, bcoz that is RB's strong sector.

Merc-fans? Peter likes Lewis more than anyone, but he also realises that there is someone who does just about anything just a little bit better And Cam has always been a total hamboy, but he is an intelligent chap who has learned a bit about the intricacies of F1. He still has a certain audience to serve, but imho he really shouldn't because quite a few of his subscribers are genuine F1-nuts who have no issue with someone displaying absolute greatness behind the wheel as much as we do like Cam's incredible wordsmithery btw. Especially when that someone is completely invested in perfecting his craft(again applicable to both😉). I, and many of my fellow F1-nuts, will always have an issue with someone who dresses up like a peacock and parades around. Despite that I acknowledge that Lewis Hamilton is a really, really good driver who made the most of being in the OP-car for close to ten years. In fact, I like the fella but he is definitely susceptible to what his fanbase wants him to be. His fanbase (and also about half of the orange army) I despise with a vengeance. They are toxic, they are mean, they are oftentimes incredibly racist and they have zero clue of what F1 is all about. Guys like Max, Charles, Lando and Oscar often chuckle and joke around when the journos try in every way possible to add a toxic bipolar narrative to all of it. To them it is, like Peter said, just a motorrace mate.

@@daverudai think it’s good to conclude that the mclaren and rb were abt equal and Max just drove astonishingly quick and on the hard, the mclaren was very clearly the quicker car because they had more downforce which is also better for tyre deg. Redbull struggled all weekend and chose to run less downforce so that they could have a go at pole but they sacrificed their long term pace which is usually their strongest feature.

Norris and Piastri are two exceptional drivers and while it is fair to say Oscsr hasn't reached his peak yet, Norris is, in my opinion, today clearly the stronger driver. They are really close in qualifying but Lando has the upper hand in race pace. All the talented F1 drivers that come into the sport with reputation are always touted as future WDC’s like Alonso, Kimi, Lewis, and this generation of Leclerc, Norris, Russell, Piastri and maybe Sainz to a lesser extent. In 2014 the f1 pundits, renowned advisors and past drivers and WDC’s all likened Max the closest thing they’ve seen to Senna since he passed. No other driver has ever been compared to the driver that each and every f1 driver wants to drive like and be compared to. That pressure was just embraced and he now supersedes the GOAT.

Not so sure that I would rate Oscar so highly. Yes, his one lap pace is excellent, but he is consistently slower than Lando in race pace. My take on Oscar's driving style is that it is pretty heavily reliant on the front-end. He uses a lot of fronts at turn in and gives the perception that the fronts are working hard through the apex. This technique will be great over a lap, but will wear the fronts over time, hence the lack of Oscar's race pace. Lando is more of a natural finesse driver, which will work better in the long run.

What for decades have been discarded as playing a game, racing on a simulator at home has always been laughed about. Because as a racing driver it's all about talent right? Well, I have been racing simulator games from 1996 and always known it should be taken more seriously. I lived through the years people discovered racing on a pc, but laughing about using a Force Feedback wheel, it's just makes you slow was the hardcore stands. The added value of racing a sim is the lack of gravity and the feedback it gives you. You need to depend on sound and visual inputs, you need to drive the car in great finesse. That is exactly what modern cars need to operate at peak performance. These days nobody laughs in your face if you up you're skills in a simulator at home, frantically most started to install simulators at home to keep up with an ever getting faster generation of (simulator skilled) drivers.
@Evan102030
@Evan102030 29 күн бұрын
Peter is skeptical about sim racing. However, one can't FEEL the weight shifting, but it's still possible to simulate these things. And what Max does with the wheel and pedals translates to performance in the sim. It requires the same type of inputs. Vice versa, there are plenty of things in the sim that translate to real life. No it's not the exact same thing, but in this era of limited testing, spending countless hours sim racing will absolutely bring racing experience. Mind you, that race was in GT cars, not single seaters.

Adrian newey didn't design that much of the actual car and floor. He spent most of his research time on the suspension. In fact he was one of the only people to work on the suspension in Red Bull so that he could prevent the porpoising and other issues that most teams had at the beginning of this new era. He has not been a full-time employee working on the Arrow side for well over 5 years. There was a point where he wasn't even really at Red Bull he was working on the Oracle sailboat. I know that everybody wants to know you to go to Ferrari or somewhere and. I just think he might want to take some time off and do things that aren't F1. Which is probably the only team that could interest him would be Ferrari so we could work on the hypercar and he can work on streetcars. And then there's the Williams ending his career we started his career in F1. I just don't think he likes the hustle and bustle of the circus the traveling constantly and specially it's all over the world it's not like it's just within a 6-hour plane ride. It's in a double digits or there is multiple layovers to get you to your destination. You may just want to go design whatever he wants to design. I don't know that he has that love for F1 anymore and especially with the direction in which the new rules were going he was not it was not very happy about the direction they were going in. So when we find out in June or July with the new Rags are going to be in 2026 he may decide to just completely walk away if it becomes far too dependent on the power unit.

What scares me is that Red Bull are already winning with this new concept. The others still working on the old concept, there must be something they saw at Red Bull how far this old (there design) could bring. Newey and Max are a golden couple. Still have hope that they would both go to Aston Martin. How they could make that team great would be a crazy story. It does make a lot of sense with the Honda Engine.Max did learn it on an early age how to feel the car and what's wrong. His dad on purpose let Max drive away with cars having some tinkering and he needed to explain to him what was wrong and how to fix it. I am actually hoped and expected Piastri make a jump this season, but so far it's still the same as last season, Norris still faster then Piastri and can still manage his tires better, the main thing Piastri needed to work on. Again this last race he wasn't able to overtake Sainz (only because of the mistake of Ferrari he passed him off the track)

Besides all the pressure most casual fans conveniently forget the pressure Max was under as an 18yr old going a big team like RB midway through the 2016 season a teaming up with the driver that ended P3 behind the 2 mighty Mercedes for 2yrs straight earning 5-6 GP wins! How difficult was it for Max to join RB so young and then perform magic that Riccardo just doesn’t and never will possess. People always undermine and criticise the junior RB teammates that Max had after Ricciardo left - Gasley, Albon and a more experienced Perez. None of them were anyway remotely close to how young and inexperienced Max was compared to his 3 teammates, all are/were at least 4-5yrs older and more experienced than what Max was. All were older than Max when they joined RB but because of what Max has achieved and who he is now … they act like he was never supposed to have a difficulties and challenges. He literally went into RB as a young tadpole and after 3-4yrs later he has become the great white shark not of RB but in F1 and Lewis knew that as successful and dominant he was in that hybrid Mercedes he had to leave the F1 tank before Max found a car that could challenge him and beat … which he did!
