It is always so refreshing to hear Peter being so genuine, authentic & honest. Be it „biased“, unsure or not knowing about it. Who would have thought that he is not disciplined all the time. 😉 And I truly appreciate his open minded approach to science being so passionate about certain things. Thank you for releasing these clips & lectures on youtube!

I love the robot analogy. I used to sort of be the same way. I had a lot of trauma in my life this past year and it really messed with my will power. I am still getting better but not 100 percent.

Thanks for sharing the information. I use the Ambrosia Blucon with Libre, It helps me to get constant readings on my Apple Watch and iPhone, the alarms help me at night. It is a much more reliable and accurate cgm with a low cost. I loved!

As a type 1 diabetic I also have a HbA1c of 4.5 to 4.8%. I don't even use a CGM, only blood sugar tests and low carb diets. HbA1c is accurate for people who have a a narrow range, people with roller coaster BG levels often have misleading results.

This is a good point. I have a history of hypoglycemia so I’m currently using a cgm to check my pattern before deciding to check A1c.

Excellent on several levels. I've experienced the same thing regarding my robot discipline - has really dropped the last few years. This is such an important topic - love the details. Now ill check for a more recent video on this from Peter.

Fascinating to hear of his willpower decay. I experienced the same issue after leaving the Military. I was insanely fit during service and the moment no one was requiring it of me anymore, I went crazy in a way I never thought I would, and I never got back on track. Ordered my CGM a few days ago before even hearing this talk 😆

great video. I think the consumer has to take action in terms of their health and at one point we should all track what the body does w the foods we eat. Thanks for the video ✅

I understand the compulsion to achieve a good result since it keeps existential anxiety at bay temporarily. It's just a cover to tell ourselves we are in control. The reality is we are always already nothing.

EXACTLY. My CGM creates data to which I am accountable. There is nowhere to hide. To the extent I was in denial about the consequences of my little indulgences, I got yanked out of denial by the data. This means that when I want to cheat, I KNOW I'm going to see the spike. I just don't want to HAVE a spike! So I behave well almost all the time.

My wife's cancer radiation oncologist said a CGM is useless because glucose doesn't cause tumors to grow. I even asked about the Warburg effect from 1931 that proved glucose DOES fuel tumor growth. It Figures, they had a candy dish on their reception counter...

Since we know that glucose does not track very consistently with insulin thus, Insulin resistence largely goes unnoticed , during many years of hyperinsulin progression , even HbA1c stays normal along the way into gradual cellular IR symptoms ; then why oh why oh my is there so much emphasis on CGMing instead of developing "Constant Insulin Monitoring "! For a mechanic analogy , I have 2 questions , #1 Why keep checking for the belt to become worn out and not check the bearing oil reservoir first off the sticking pulley whose friction would eventually wear out the belt . If this belt was a crucial valve timing belt on a piston/valve interference engine - you would be screwed out of the competition for good by monitoring the last priority indication instead of the first priority indicator . #2 . Why aren't doctors first required to pass a basic engineering diagnostics for pre-practice on the principles and less practice on the protocols. ?

By empowering the individual to proactively look after themselves by what they eat via the use of a CGM will not only improve the health of the individual, but will also lessen the impact on what governments spend on health care. I conclude with this... If there is money to be made from CGM - it will eventually flood the mass market.

I’m so tired of trying to convince a dr that I need one of these! I’ve been keto for over a year and dropped 115 lbs. but something is going on that I don’t understand. I’m well below 10 gm of carbs daily and down to one meal a day. Yet I get dry mouth , shakeup, sweaty, yacht after eating that meal. How can I find out what is going on? Please help!

Have you tried fasting for at least 24 hours? It could be that you still need to take steps to lower your resting insulin levels.

This video is now 5 years old. but I would like to comment on CGMs in general. I am wearing a G7 mainly so that I correlate what I eat with glucose response. Unfortunately the data on the CGM is more to inform about dosing insulin. I am pre-prediabetic and would like to prevent myself from going down that path. IF the data was enriched by being able to note food eaten (date/time/food) with that graphed in say a color that would reflect the food(meal), one could look at a 24 hr. report and relate food with (any) spikes. In that way the CGM would not be (only) about insulin dosing but more for personal understanding of how one's body reacts to foods eaten.

Even 3 year later, Trying to get a CGM without Dr Prescription is a NO GO for non-diabetics ( insurance won't cover it ). Companies such as Signos, Nutrisense, and AgelessRx can provide the "Dr Prescription" online and supply the CGM and sensors on a subscription basis. But it's still expensive , about $250 - $300 per month. Does anyone have other alternatives such as going offshore ? Thanks

@@raquelt7723 Believe it or not in some places ( Las Vegas ), the "Standard of Care" says that unless you have diabetes and are on insulin then you DON'T NEED A CGM. Insurance won't cover it so you pay out of pocket. $75 is a very good price. How ?

Peter is OCD and watching his numbers go up and down like a stock day trader. Yeah, I was curious myself. Its B.S. with the cost. And the cheaper ones, people complain about inaccuracies and failed connections, etc. H1Ac is still better. The goal is to monitor trends. So, even if your H1Ac values don't align with the public, doesn't matter. Its not useless. You can see if YOUR values go up and down over the years. Right now, feels like its not a great investment, even if its for self-control reasons. I'd do it for two weeks, testing for foods if it was around $100, and accurate. The $100 device/service right now don't seem accurate and data is sparse.

In principle I agree with him but almost all my relatives live over 80 after eating most “ unhealthy food” along with most sugary desserts all their life and none of them gone before 80 , have no diabetic or cancer in whole family , it’s stress , and especially stress come with capitalist life style , calculated & isolated life style , lack of complete family life , etc etc which get you much earlier than diabetes

Both of my grandmothers lived into their mid 90s but they were riddled with health problems from their 70s. They had good genes but bad habits. That’s why Peter talks about healthspan as opposed to just lifespan.

I wonder how a patient could go rogue treating their diabetes with insulin if CGMs were available OTC; insulin is a only available by prescription. This argument for restricting CGMs makes less than no sense.
