Such immense talent in this group! What’s your favorite song by them?

Stell is the center guy (your bias), he is a high tenor maybe even a countertenor. He has the nicest voice in the group and most note-accurate. Baritone/Bass guy on left is Ken (AKA Felip on his solo album). Next guy on the left is low to mid-range tenor, Justin. Blond guy is Pablo who's also a mid-range tenor, rapper, and wrote and arranged all their songs, and produced almost all of them. Purple-haired Josh is their main rapper so his vocals are the least polished in this group yet he's the most improved. None of them had any formal voice training, and I'm sure you can tell, but their pop vocals are still top-notch. No auto-tune because that's a no-no to Filipino audience. They also sound better live than their recorded music.

The guy in the red-white jacket is their leader PABLO. He's also the one who wrote, composed and arranged this song (in fact he wrote the lyrics to ALL their songs since debut; and after he's gained recognition/acceptance as a writer, he's composed their songs since their comeback in 2021). In one interview for MAPA's release, he said MAPA might be their latest masterpiece among all their songs, primarily because of the universal message of the song: to give tribute to their parents and guardians which is why it's called 'MAPA' for 'MA' and 'PA' (which is also a double-meaning since it's also putting a simile with the word "MAP" for how our parents/guardians "guide" us through life. The bridge literally says, "I will never be lost since I carry my 'MAPA' (map, also ma & pa). No matter where I end up, I know where I came from." Pablo is actually quite versatile. He's great with ballad, soul, RnB and to top it off, he's a very sick rapper too. He has a lot of unwritten solo songs that have become viral among fans. Unfortunately, he's only released 1 and a half of those--let me explain. Last year, he released his solo, "La Luna" which is a sick song, full of rap-singing, but before that, as teaser for "La Luna" he also released a short song called "???" (I kid you not, it's literally 3 question marks), which is a VERY different track compared to La Luna. "???" is a great showcase of his raw belting voice. You can find both songs in his KZfaq channel "PABLO". The guy in the middle (your favorite) is called Stell. He's the group's main vocalist. He's gained recognition for his range, which, by the way, even in the Philippines (where talented vocalists are aplenty) is considerably rare. But here's the kicker: he actually auditioned primarily as a DANCER, in fact, he choreographs most their dance routines. He, along with Josh (also a member of SB19) belonged to a dance group SE-EON, which is an internationally-awarded dance group. Once, they won in a league competition in Korea and met BTS (this was years before BTS became popular). Really, a lot of artists consider him a formidable talent. He was even chosen by Disney to perform for their grand launch here is PH--which might not seem like much to foreigners, but Stell's co-performers were actually big shots. Watch Disney PH's "A Night of Wonder" (it's on KZfaq) and you'll see what I mean. Stell is also hardworking--literally. He used to juggle dancing, studying and working multiple part-time jobs because he didn't want to give up performing. He eventually collapsed. A lot of people just say, "oh, he's just very talented" but all that talent actually came from hard work--in fact, every single member here could not have grown to be this talented without hard work. They literally trained for years, even on weekends to get this far. And they weren't kids even when they trained, they were in college or are working adults when they started training all those years ago. These are guys who studied, worked AND trained at the same time. I think I've written a lot already. I have made described Ken (red hair, deep voice) in a previous comment. Again, yes, he's their bass. For Justin (the first one who sang) he's the youngest of the group (as well as the tallest). Vocally, he's on the high side, next to Stell and Pablo. He's actually a very stable singer and a great dancer as well. More than that though, he is the group's resident creative director--as in he is the one who literally drafts up their music videos. SB19 is actually known for producing the best produced MVs ever since...idk, probably since the 90's? You wouldn't know, but production quality here stagnated since the 90's/early 2000s. It's not that Filipinos cannot produce great videos (some animes are actually done by outsourcing Filipino artists), it's just that they probably wouldn't be paid well enough for it. Production companies could not be bothered to take the risk when "the masses are happy enough anyway" so to speak, much to the chagrin of Filipino artists (both the celebrities and the ones behind the cam). SB19 broke the status quo when their MV "WHAT" was released and so many artists literally applauded them for the bravery. Now Justin was the brain for conceptualizing said MV. Justin himself is a graduate of multi-media arts and I think results can attest to the fact that he's put his degree to good use. Now Josh, the purple-hair. He's probably had the worst encounters in life among everyone. You're looking at someone who literally used to live in the streets. Yeah I don't wanna talk too much about his life as it is not mine to talk about, just bear in mind that he had to crawl to get to where he's at right now. He's the eldest of the group. Josh is the group's rapper along with Pablo. He's the one who recruited Justin and Ken into the training which eventually led the company to create SB19. A lot of people don't know, but Josh seems to be like their legal PR/connections man. Owing to how he grew up, Josh knows his way around people very well and is actually an incredibly smart guy. Heck, he knows ALL the PPop groups and are close friends with a lot of them. (See? Connections man!) He's also a gamer and he streams (eventually every member of the group streams, but Josh is like the OG, being a gamer himself). As for talent, I don't think I need to say it. He used to be in SE-EON along with Stell and won international competitions, so obviously, he's incredibly skilled in dancing. And again, he's a great rapper. He fits English rap lines very well. But I guess what makes Josh special for me is the fact that he helps out people, especially now that he knows he's in the position to help. Even back then when he himself is down on his luck, he paid for Ken's plane ticket to get to the auditions. You'll find that everyone in the group are all like that; they would help even when they themselves don't have it easy.

You're correct, Ken or Felip (as soloist), is the bass vocalist in the group. His voice can go lower than what was showcased in this song. Highly recommend their song MANA in wish bus. That's their best performance in wish bus and you'll hear Ken show his bass vocals more in that song :)

Peter, thank you for your review and reaction. Good to hear from a professional who has understanding of music. All the members are all college, 2 graduated with degrees other than music and three are still finishing college. You would think that they have proper musical training, but none. The one voice you favor is Stell's, he is dubbed as having the "heavenly" voice. Please do review his performance in Dysney's night of wonder, that's the performance where I first notice him, where he sang the Lion King portion. It is always refreshing learning the technicalities of singing from those with training and experience in this art. SB19 has gotten a voice coach only recently. Prior to that, they were doing most of the singing and blending by themselves. As far as I know, all of them haven't had formal training in singing or music in general until during their trainee days. One thing admirable about their singing is the way they convey their emotions in their voices which the audience can’t help but feel. You’re on point in saying that they often made ad-libs in their live singing, hence no two live performance is the same. They also tweaked it from their original studio version. Ken, the guy with the low voice, can still go lower as you guessed if you will check out their other songs and even his solo releases. All members are multi-talented and hands own in their every project. MAPA, literally translated as “map” but also a wordplay for Mama and Papa, is a tribute to their parents and the people who guided them. Thank you for this analysis and reaction.

I wish you had turned on the English caption to appreciate the song but thanks for the RV. Yes, KEN the guy on the left, is a bass vocalist. Try to watch their MANA performance on the Wish Bus to hear his low voice. As to their ages, the youngest is 24 and oldest is 28. They have braces now because they were too poor to get those when they were younger.
