The City Council does not promote the Cathedral and its history enough. Peterborough has so much history dating back to the medieval period, it has survived Roman invasions, Saxon rebellions and the civil war. Two queens were buried there and the surrounding areas too have so much history. C’mon City Council you could do better at marketing! I’ve lived in a lot of towns in 🇬🇧 and Peterborough is nowhere near the worst place to live. It’s also one of the fastest growing cities in 🇬🇧, funny thing that.
@JayandKarolina

Totally agree! The cathedral is beautiful and located a stone's throw from the main square also this should definitely be used to the city's advantage :) We hadn't heard of it before either, but I think that's why Paul (the main marketing co-ordinator) personally approached us and will give the green light to film - unfortunately they have a lot of restrictions on filming visitors to this monument. Plus, a short drive away from the centre and you'll find yourself in the beautiful traditional village of Werrington where I think anyone would be super happy to live 🌹

Fastest growing city? You know why? 25% of the population of Peterborough were not born in this country. That is not a good thing. Watch the unrest and degradation unfold.

Pre 2001 Lincoln Road was fairly clean with a few pubs and a variety of shops. Sadly, it is now full of off licences catering for our eastern European folks who enjoy a few drinks. We also have a large number of takeaways and grocery stores which attract a greater footfall of people to the area. Werrington village is nice if you head further into Werrington you’ll find issues there too. You go to any city centre area in any city you will find the built up areas are a little worn out- Peterborough is no different. I'm sure if you had got 'stuck' Karolina's Polish/ Lithuanian skills and/or your Punjabi/ Hindi/Urdu would have helped you out.

You basically described all our experiences perfectly :) Overall, the city was quite pleasant to walk around and actually not as bad as people describe it! If only the city council would make Lincoln Rd more attractive, there wouldn't be areas like this at all!

Peterborough really isn't that bad tbf. The city is also home to an impressive art deco/ Mediterranean Lido, which isn't far from the Cathedral near to the Embankment. We also have a plethora of theatres from the Key Theatre to the New Theatre (formally Broadway theatre). There's quite a lot to do in the city from the Cathedral to Flag Fen and Ferry meadows, I mean, there are smany landmarks around the place. We have so much to offer. We now have a new university that is rapidly expanding every year with new buildings and courses on offer. We've got more coming soon to the city centre such as a new House of Fraser's, Flannels, Sports Direct, Sostrene Grene, Odeon Luxe, Gravity, WingStop, Popeyes and more opening over the next year in Queensgate to fill in vacant units and help to occupy the new £60million Queensgate development. I am sure the city will look vastly different by 2030 with new projects starting soon and should be completed by then. Thanks for showing Peterborough in a positive light. We have our problems, especially around Milfield, but I don't feel unsafe walking down Lincoln road, yea it may seem dodgy, but it does have so much to offer to so many communities, also there's so many amazing restaurant's down that strip from Lithuanian, Portuguese to Chinese and Indian! Tbh, I think the litter issues are mainly down to the businesses and inhabitants around that area, fsr they don't seem to care about street appeal and litter problems, maybe the streets around that area need more bins?? Lastly, our Cathedral is magnificent, absolutely stunning. You'll see when you reach the back end of the Cathedral that the ceiling bares a resemblance to the ceiling at King's College Chapel in Cambridge as they were both designed by the same architect who is called John Wastell. Come back soon to see more of Peterborough, maybe next time travel through Longthorpe and Thorpe road to see the impressive mansions (especially some of the new modern buildings) down there. Or if it's your thing, we have a festival called Under that you could attend, which is D&B, electric and house music, if that's your scene. It does well as thousands attend this event every year, it also attracts the biggest DJ's around from Roger Sanchez, Todd Terry, Judge Jules, Sub Focus to Shy FX and that's located at Nene park under the Nene Parkway where Urban life meets nature. Cheers guy's for showing this great city. It's not perfect, but where is in this world rn! Have a good one and I hope you come back soon!

There’s some lovely villages just outside of the city centre. Just like everywhere it has it’s good and bad places. The empty building at 22:07 has been like that for a long time. I’m not sure why as it would a brilliant bar. Perhaps it’s listed so can be more trouble converting. Personally I love paying pretty cheap rent (compared to the rest of the Uk) and I can get into central London in just under an hour on the train. Perfect for dipping in and out for the weekend. I barely go into the centre these days. But For £700 a month I definitely wouldn’t get a two bedroom, two bathroom spacious flat in London.

I was born in Peterborough over 60 years ago and raised in millfield then moved on to Warrington village the village, Millfield has changed for the worse over the years from a lovely market town to. SCRUFFY DIRTY PLACE WHERE THERE ARE NO VALUES OR RESPECT FOR THE ELDERLY THAT GREW UP THERE. I feel so sorry for the original people who cannot move and are disrespect by the youth that have seemingly taken over . Your walk around Peterborough didn't show everything I'm afraid but you did a good job and loved your show around the cathedral where one of Henry the eighths wives is buried in side. People talk about not feeling safe walking around Lincoln road area and I understand why. The younger people who didn't live here will often stare at you as if you don't belong there. What has the government done to our once lovely little millfield. thank you both for sharing your video. Peace and happiness.🌷🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️🙏

Thanks for the video guys! The wooden panels with seats in the middle of the cathedral are the choir stalls! These are typical in many of the early cathedrals! The cathedral has an interesting history! Catherine of Aragon is buried here and originally Mary, Queen of Scots who was then re-buried in Westminster Abbey by her son James 1 of England!

Helpful video! Tbh the shit parts of peterborough don't seem any worse then most parts of London. You get areas like that in London all over the place. Often one street away from the nice parts. And then you actually have the rough parts of London where every street is like that or worse ha. The value for money is definetly tempting me to move out of London. Anyone who has recently moved to Peterborough care to share their feedback?

Youre assessment of Lincoln road was fair and accurate. People are generally nice but it is very very littered, lots of foreign languages, and a general vibe that is quite intimidating and threatening (especially as it gets dark) I wouldnt wanna be a woman walking there alone at night lets say.

I have a small criticism. No offence intended. If you use the toilets in a shop or other outlet, McDonalds in this case, it is always a nice gesture to buy something from them or to put a donation into the charity box. Anything really just as a thank you. Other than that, top marks !

Hi Stanley! I appreciate this gentle remark :) The reason why we actually went to this McDonalds was because the toilets in the shopping mall where we bought some Greggs were not working indeed… However, it doesn’t change the fact that there was no other public toilets so it was the only option - luckily I didn’t order anything haha but normally we would buy a drink since it just feels right :)

Yeah, I agree... There's a lot of abandonment in them places and that's the reason why we wanted to publicise it so that something will be done in the near future - as the Green Party candidate said "There's HOPE" 🤪 But from the other side the people of Luton are happy with the town, feel secure and think that it's going to the right direction, which surprised us incredibly!

@@JayandKarolina honestly it’s scary how even one of the nicest areas in Peterborough is plagued by people causing issues. Just recently we had someone break into our water tank room, shut off all water. Damage the water tank and put something inside, we all had to foot the bill for the disinfectant and repair. This type of thing is so regular, like people breaking locks on our doors, people smoking weed below us, people attacking the swans and wildlife. And people setting off fire alarms in our buildings at 3am. It’s such a lovely area but brought down so heavily by people that have nothing better to do :(
