Four retired gentlemen undertake a difficult, once in a lifetime railbiking adventure across the vast open spaces of Patagonia. Fighting ferocious winds, camping at abandoned stations and
interacting with the friendly locals, all the while enjoying the La Trochita experience as no one has before. Full story: www.latrochita.homestead.com Correct narrow gauge is750mmm which is 29-1/2". Wide gauge is1676mm which is 5'6". Correct spelling is Gaucho, not Goucho. View also: Railbike Wildlife, Extreme Railbiking.

Congratulations!! your story touched me in several ways. First of all because it gives me hope, you are the living proof that tours and cruises are not the only option for retired people, second: you've linked two places of the world I love: Patagonia (where I traveled several times) and Portland (some of you came from there) a city I love and enjoyed, and finally because your adventure is like a tribute to friendship among you and with environment, human as well as natural. My regards from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

the best travel show on the tube. i BECAME ADDICTED TO THE SCREEN. I felt frightened , elated. excited. emotional. you are certainly a great group of men. I am 82 years and in my younger life i formed and ran a touring cycling club and during my cycling years pedled over 26,000 miles. I last rode a bike 10 years ago in Scotland along disused railway trackbeds. but it became to much so had to stop. You are an inspiration to all who view this. thankyou very much.

I'm sixty six and I 'actually' thought I was doing something special because 'maybe' twice a week I ride twenty six miles on a paved bike trail. Still, I enjoy it. The trail was made from an old railway which was paved over. Plans are to lengthen the NY trail but I'm told no camping will be allowed.

Thank you. Watching your movie brought up many memories from riding the line in the late 1980ties from Esquel for the whole length including a three course meal in the diner and running out of coal to heat our coach. Also, an engine break-down let to many hours of delay. The strong but cold winds I could feel again ... I spend all stops outside on the ground trying to collect wood in order to keep a fire going in the coach's oven. And the sun-set looked just like in your movie.

Some of my friends and I actually did this in Southern California decades ago in the 70s. Only ours were two ten speed bikes welded together and we rode on full size abandoned tracks. Eventually we powered the unit with a 5hp motor with a platform between the rails to ride on. It carried 2 to 4 people and we sat in lawn chairs while riding. I still have photos of this. This is the first time I have ever seen anyone else do anything like it.
