LYRICS:
I saw the light fade from the sky
On the wind I heard a sigh
As the snowflakes cover
My fallen brothers
I will say this last goodbye
Night is now falling
So ends this day
The road is now calling
And I must away
Over hill and under tree
Through lands where never light has shone
By silver streams that run down to the sea
Under cloud, beneath the stars
Over snow and winter's morn
I turn at last to paths that lead home
And though where the road then takes me,
I cannot tell
We came all this way
But now comes the day
To bid you farewell
Many places I have been
Many sorrows I have seen
But I don't regret
Nor will I forget
All who took that road with me
Night is now falling
So ends this day
The road is now calling
And I must away
Over hill, and under tree
Through lands where never light has shone
By silver streams that run down to the sea
To these memories I will hold
With your blessing I will go
To turn at last to paths that lead home
And though where the road then takes me,
I cannot tell
We came all this way
But now comes the day
To bid you farewell
I bid you all a very fond farewell

What I love about this song is that Billy Boyd is saying he'll miss his friends, but they have their separate journeys to make. Maybe someday their journeys will intersect again, but for now they have to go about their lives and hope they'll meet again. The whole song isn't actually about saying goodbye, although it does talk about that. It's about the passing of time, the good past you've had with friends and the unknown future. Will you ever see them again? Only time will tell. But until then, hope. Have faith. Live and love. Don't worry about your friends. They'll be fine. Just focus on your own life, and maybe someday, your paths will indeed cross once more.

What he said at the end and Bilbo desperatly trying to keep him with him... =( Not to mention this goosebump-making scene at the end when the humans play the horns of dale for the fallen king.

I ended up buying an illustrated collectors edition of "The Lord of the Rings" because I loved the books so much and wore out my paperback editions re-reading them. Still need to find a good hardback of the Hobbit...which I remember being introduced to in my English class when I was in 7th grade. That got me going on the rest of the books and into Science Fiction/Fantasy novels.

These lines will never cease to make me cry :'( I'm not ashamed to say I cried like a baby when I heard this song in the theaters. I just couldn't bear the thought that this is really the end..... we have to say goodbye forever to these characters, their stories.... this world that Tolkien and Peter Jackson brought us all to love. My husband died June 9th, 2024. He loved the Lord of the rings movies... and he loved listening to you sing, Peter Hollens!!! I still love listening to you and your wife sing! You bring comfort to me in your songs, you both sing so beautifully, you are truly blessed! As I watched this video, I just felt this was truly the best song to play at the end of his funeral this Saturay June 29th, 2024, it will be his way of bidding everyone who knew him a final farewell, thank you Peter for singing this song!! My husband found your music just after you appeared on the show "The Sing Off", and we have many of your CD's! In addition, my husband told me that he wanted "Amazing Grace" that you sang with Home Free played at his funeral, it is the first song. He knew he was dying from kidney failure, and it was just a matter of time, we just didn't expect it to happen so soon or so quickly! He went into the hospital on June 2nd, his kidneys were failing, and in the blink of an eye, he was gone... but not forgotten! I miss him so much.... 😢

@thegamesforreal1673
@thegamesforreal1673 7 жыл бұрын
Well the wind blows because the clouds in the atmosphere block sunlight as well as the day-night cycle and a couple other effects mean the sun warms the earth at different rates in different places, causing warmer and colder pockets of air, which causes warmer air rising to create low pressure areas and cold air sinking to create high pressure areas, and the air then moves from high to low pressure areas which we call wind! Peter hollens remains a mystery though... Couldn't resist, i'm sorry!

He was such a kind and loving soul who always said not to think of death as an end, but the beginning of an even better journey. Though it's a last goodbye it's not an eternal goodbye and I will take my memories of this journey with me everywhere. This just hit me with my memories of him so hard I like a baby and I am 37.. lol...Absolutely amazing!!!

At the end of the movie, the choice of song for the ending credits was a perfect one, and it made me cry tears. And honestly I couldn't tell whether they were tears of joy or sorrow, but this song is very powerful in that it really touches the hearts of the listener. And it fits so well with the ending. And Peter was able to perfect it in a way no one else can.

Dear M. Hollens, I would like to thank you for all the things you are doing. Especially the songs about "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit". These movies helped me to see life with more determination and optimism. Every single times I listen to one of those songs you did, particularly "The Last Goodbye", I cannot help but be moved and cry. You have such a beautiful voice and it makes me smile. Thank you a lot. I have a wish, if I could be so bold as to ask it...; I wish you would do "Saturn" by Sleeping at Last. This song is one of my favorite, it speaks about how rare and beautiful is our existence ... Thank you again for all that you have done, The Forgotten...

This was amazing, easily my favorite song from the entire series. There are a few shorter, smaller songs from the films left, most only about a minute, the ones coming to mind instantly are "Blunt the Knives", "The Man in the Moon Stayed Up Too Late" and "The Green Dragon" Probably a few other short songs I missed as well. Also it's nice that you acknowledge the comments, it really brightens my day to see a response, even something as simple as an "awesome" or "yeah" or even "thank you" just makes it seem like commenting still has a purpose.
