I lived in Peterlee from 1959-1970, (5-15 years old) then we moved to Canada. It was wonderful to watch this video, it brought back a lot of memories for me. I lived in Manor Way.

Born there 1961. Left in 1972. Clearest memory is walking down into Horden for Saturday morning pictures. Mayhem. Kids loved it.

Yes it was mayhem I used to go down there as well 😊

Peterlee the Monte Carlo of the North east. Full of Charity Shops and cheapo shops selling tat to nuggets walking around the town centre with a Mobile phone glued to one hand and in the other hand the famous greggs Pasty.

This town is so different now, I had no idea that was what the town used to originally look like, I have lived here all my life and I am only 18 years old, thank you so much for showing me the history of my home :D thank you.

Thanks for the video. I'm from Peterlee and until the past few years always lived there (and still did in 2009 when this was uploaded). It isn't actually that bad for crime and what not compared to the city I live in now (Sheffield). With regret however I had to move away to find career progression, which is a shame as it is too easy to slate it, when in reality, it is a pretty decent and safe town.

Peterlee, like so many new towns, could have been so much better than it is. It's a shame so much of it was built in the 60s and 70s - the era that architecture forgot.
@patsarse11 жыл бұрын
there were 2 escalators. One in the middle of town, near where Greggs is now and one round the back where doggetts was. Neither of them ever worked.

Thank you for this, my family remember all of this but for me been only 25 i remember half and it has changed a lot. makes me angry to see that peterlee was a good simple place back then, today it has been wrecked by chavs and cocky kids.

I knew the queen visited peterlee! She stayed in my old street Avon Road for a bit. I've been alive 13 and have lived it all in peterlee. It needs to go back to the old ways. They look better and like it has more room and places to go. Shame. I have been living there from 2000 to 2013 and nothing has got better. It's all crap. There is nothing to do. It's so boring now. Wish it was as fun as the old days

To the parents and grandparents who watched me on itv news could you please speak to your children and grankids and friends about the dangers of the sea.
