As a photographer, I've spent quite a bit of time in Riyadh over the last year and a half, and I can tell you, literally everyone I've met or worked with has been extremely cordial and friendly. As you correctly point out, there's a HUGE difference between the people on the ground in Saudi Arabia and it's political challenges and aspirations.

@NoelKerns

@@ajs41 -- A good question. I generally stay at the Courtyard Diplomatic Quarter, and I've seen plenty of women business travelers there, several who seemed to be traveling alone. That said, they're likely not visiting the more depressed areas; more likely working with contacts in the government, or with Aramco. And that isn't substantially different than working with business people anywhere else, at least since MBS started making changes in women's rights there.

@@CarolFremel-my4hs If they are not kind to their wives, why do they buy more jewelry for their wives than the rest of the world, and most institutions and companies register in the wives' name? It is known that Muslim men do not wear jewelry because it is forbidden, but it is permissible for a female to do so. And the country is most keen on the comfort and privacy of Saudi women. My wife or daughter can go and walk at two in the morning without any problem, but can your wife do that in your country?

I’m in Saudi right now for work. It’s been amazing seeing the new levels of freedom, economic growth and development that SO strongly contrast my experiences here 9 years ago. The sense of relief is palpable. The Saudis have always treated me well but now there is an unreserved openness and friendliness that reminds me of Egypt. I hope good things for the people of Saudi, and pray that as they explore new avenues of freedom that it doesn’t just turn into new burdens brought on by the same moral pitfalls we suffer from in the west. Enjoy these new paths, KSA, but do so, wisely.

I spent almost my whole life in Germany. I got the opportunity to move to Saudi Arabia, a country, that sounds strange and dangerous for Europeans, mostly because all we know is from media. When I arrived in Saudi, it was (as expected) a different world. But it was a world that fell in love with within a couple of days. So many nice and polite people. So much Respekt, I was welcomed by every single person. I came to the conclusion that the beauty of a country depends significantly on the people. I am still in Saudi and I still love this country like the first day.

I went to Saudi this year. I learned so much about the country in university. I simply had to go in person. It was such a unique and interesting experience. I have never seen happier kids than Saudi kids and I have travelled to many countries… Saudi kids were only laughing and running around. Kids like the ones in the video were what I would see. I didn’t see 1 upset Saudi kid. Honestly, I was in shock! Western media show a wrong image of the Saudi people. They were very nice and hospitable. Some Saudis were very surprised to see I was a tourist. They thought I was a tourist in their city, but couldn’t believe I was a tourist in their country 😄

I’ve been living and working in Saudi,year five now and honestly have to confirm that local people are really really nice and hospitable. I’m white european and never had any problem with locals. Their mentality is different indeed, but Saudi is not Europe nor USA,so that’s not a problem ofc. I’d like to highlight SAFETY in Saudi,there’s no need to be worried at all. Greetings from Riyadh👋😊🇸🇦🇨🇿

How does it feels ? I see many muslims writing such statements especially in the reply section unfortunately. We cannot stop the drinking of a drunken beggar on one switch tap. Only by bit by bit. Similarly you have to go. You can start by saying how generous we Muslims are and such teachings of prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. And gradually increasing the pace. I have seen this mistake from many bros and sis. In their mind they might say : " what's this Muslims comment like this in every platforms ? , Why are they inserting religion to everything , and so on. it's quite similar to dubai in many ways. they funnel their oil money into projects like this, and modernize in regards to social customs and PR, in the hope that when the oil runs out and the world transitions away from fossil fuels they can sustain themselves via being a business/trade hub. i don't think it will work out in the long term (see: neom - absolutely delusional colossal waste of money, consultants laughing all the way to the bank) but you can't fault them for trying. and while i haven't been to saudi, I have been to dubai, and in terms of architectural grandeur and the friendliness and politeness of the people, it really is beautiful in its own way. but the ugliness is still there, just buried in the sand.

I wouldn’t agree with the second Muhammad in regards to “living in Saudi was like living with ISIS”. ISIS torture and kill people. I lived there and I did not feel that way. I would say that 2 years ago, Saudi was more strict with the Islamic beliefs and its culture. In regards to being held for having a tattoo and cutting a person hair, this was done by the religious police which unfortunately was operated mostly by people who had no to little knowledge in the Islamic studies. And some comments that I would say if I was with you is that most houses in the area where the foreigner lived were once owned by Saudi people and then they were given away by the owners to whomever in need. And yes, Saudi Arabia, especially Riyadh, is a night city because of the climate. I hope you have a great time in Saudi.

Roy Amstrong You really sound like you give about human beings... I like that. But let’s talk about the reality, because you sound like you’re living in a movie. We Muslims don’t want libéralisme, because it’s subjective, it’s baseless. It’s just about what white people find okay, it’s the white mens sensibility. Like having sex with your own sister, having sex with animals, homosexuality, and more of these disgusting things are freedom in your eyes. But it’s madness in our eyes. We DONT want it. You can’t force your taste upon us. Talking about animal, go clean your own mess first, people are starving in USA. They kill each other for 1 gram cocaine. Look at the crime statistics, you would almost think the USA is a war zone. You guys think letting your sister or wife walk half naked is freedom, well, we don’t share this opinion. And don’t talk like your the president of the USA. “ we will invade you” bla bla bla. You will do nothing my friend. Saudi Arabia is holy, there are 1.8 billion Muslims who will drink your blood if you put one step into that land.

Casa Negra Well I live in central London and I have met homosexual Saudis who come here and do things you wouldn’t believe. Some are sent by their families to hide their cocaine and heroine habits! And please don’t talk about sleeping with sisters when you marry your first cousins. Everything happens in Saudi Arabia but it’s all hidden under the carpet but you can’t fool people, the whole world has seen what Saudi people are like when they leave Saudi and believe me their behavior is not what you call honorable and they have no boundaries! The Arab world looks upon you as traitors who sold out to the West.

@Callum Hudson-Odoi it was not a horrible act in his time. It was okay to be married at a young age back then. FYI he was married to her for 3 years and didn't sleep with her until she reached puberty which was at the age of 9. Back then they believed if a girl reaches puberty, she's capable of getting married. And if it was a horrible act at that time, then why his enemies and disbelievers didn't say anything about it or sham him for it and mock him? Because it was a normal thing. Fast forward to centuries after the time of the prophet people were still getting married at a young age, for example, the age of marriage in America 100 years ago was 12 and 10. And in Europe kings and royals married at an early age to keep the throne. Each century has it's won thoughts and believes. So, don't compare our century to 140 century ago. Ps, sorry for my grammar 😉
